Uranian Renaissance

In an individual’s birth chart, the location of Uranus represents the area in which a person will be unique and creative, often in a way that is counter to societal norms. Sometimes, this will manifest as a rather forceful break from tradition. When Uranus transits sensitive points in an individual’s chart, sudden flashes of understanding or transformative events may result that lead to an unexpected shift in the direction of the person’s life.

In the collective experience, Uranus’ movement through the signs and the various aspects to other planets that it makes along the way indicate society’s endless path of awakening to new frontiers of understanding, as well as its liberation from previous limitations. This can be as dramatic as a violent revolution or as enlightening and innovative as an invention that ushers in a paradigm shift in cultural reality. When Uranus enters Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, it begins an entirely new cycle of inventiveness that can launch the world in an unexpected, previously uncharted direction. During the 1843 to 1844 entry of Uranus into Aries, the first electrical telegram was sent, Charles Goodyear patented his new-found technique to vulcanize rubber, and the first wagon train headed for the American Northwest. During the 1927 to 1928 entry of Uranus into Aries, television was successfully demonstrated for the first time, the first talking movie - the Jazz Singer - was made, and Charles Lindberg made the first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic. It is easy to see in these events the seeds of profound transformations that increasingly permeated society for subsequent decades. By the 21st Century, television, movies, and air travel had become ubiquitous and had led to the even more amazing proliferation of computers, space programs, and satellite technology.

In less than a week, on May 28, Uranus will again enter Aries and renew its 84-year cycle. During the next few years, seeds will be planted that will lead to the as yet unanticipated cultural shifts of the coming decades. It is perhaps not coincidental that Uranus, in the last degree of the last sign of the previous cycle, has brought with it what will likely be the most environmentally devastating oil spill yet. Out of this mess may come a forceful inducement to the creation of new forms of energy, new techniques in pollution management, or other yet-unknown innovations that launch us in the direction of completely different societal norms with respect to energy usage. Uranus is, after all, moving into the sign of pure energy, Mars-ruled Aries, while Neptune-ruled Pisces, its previous home, is more often associated with gas and oil.

It should be pointed out, however, that Uranus will briefly return to Pisces from mid-August 2010 through mid-March 2011, so the transformation into a truly new, innovative cycle will not be complete until next year. During the retrograde of Uranus back into Pisces, the old oil and gas paradigm may temporarily strengthen, especially during the final two of three Jupiter/Uranus conjunctions which will both take place in the last degrees of Pisces, during September 2010 and January 2011, respectively. It may even seem, with the inventiveness and optimism of Jupiter/Uranus in combination, that technology and improved regulation will enable safe oil exploration in the future. But Uranus’ re-entry into Aries in March 2011 will begin to move us much more forcefully in the direction of dramatic alternatives, not only in energy development but also in other fields such as medicine. The next few months, during the June to mid-August station of Uranus at 00 Aries, may give us a taste of what is to come.

During Uranus’ seven-year passage through Aries, several other planets will combine with its imprint at various times, further defining its impact. The first of these will be the first Jupiter/Uranus conjunction which will be in effect for the first half of June 2010, exact at 00Aries18. Watch this period for some potent outside-the-box thinking, some of which may be focused on a solution to the oil spill disaster. Hopefully, this highly creative period will also include the final financial reform legislation. If, on the other hand, financial reform is signed before May 28, while Uranus in still in the 29th degree of Pisces, this attempt at financial industry correction may incorporate some of the self-deceptive nature of Pisces and may need further, radical revamping in the next few years. Jupiter is also likely to expand Uranus’ revolutionary and tradition-breaking qualities during this conjunction, ramping up scientific breakthroughs, as well as rebellion and volatility in many parts of the globe.

Since November 2008, we have been under the sway of the Saturn/Uranus opposition, one of the most significant aspects in the Obama Inauguration chart. Progressives chafe at the slow pace of change mandated by Saturn as it restrains and restricts the enormous ingenuity and transformational urgency of Uranus. The final Saturn/Uranus opposition of this series, from mid-July through August 5, 2010, and exact at 00Aries24/00Libra24, is likely to once again frustrate those who wish for more immediate and comprehensive change. On the other hand, the issues that have been addressed during the Saturn/Uranus opposition may all be understood as wild, out-of-control and potentially very destructive situations (Uranus) that have needed careful attention and regulation (Saturn) in order to render them harmless and once again beneficial to society. These include the financial bailout, Wall Street and banking reform, health care, the Gulf oil spill, and even the recent upsurge of terrorist incidents.

What will no doubt be the most memorable period during the transit of Uranus through Aries will come in the months surrounding the seven exact squares between Pluto and Uranus, from June 2012 to March 2015. To some extent, this aspect, which in July and August 2010 will be briefly within a three-degree orb, is already being felt, although its most dramatic and ultimately transformative impact is yet to unfold. While Uranus represents sudden breakthroughs and radical, unexpected change, Pluto indicates a tremendous consolidation of power toward a focused goal. With the two acting together in the somewhat tense relationship of the square, we can expect consolidations of power that are a radical departure from tradition in order to deal creatively with unprecedented challenges. We can also expect large scale rebellions against the increasingly consolidated power structures of the status quo. Some of the players in this drama are likely to be: global corporations attempting to further consolidate and enrich themselves; governments attempting to break-up overwhelming and intransigent corporate dominance; governments attempting to increase control over a turbulent citizenry; governments dealing with the immense challenges of environmental upheaval; and global leadership dealing with increasing economic turmoil.

The last passage of Uranus through Aries included a twenty-one month span during which three squares with Pluto occurred, from April 1932 through January 1934. The magnitude and ramifications of the events during that period are very instructive. In Germany, initially in response to the post-war experience of defeat and economic crisis, Adolf Hitler became Chancellor, the National Socialist Party (Nazi) became dominant, the Gestapo was established, and the Reichstag fire took place and was used to nullify civil liberties. It is easy to see in these events both a radical departure from tradition and an overwhelming consolidation of power, sometimes initiated by sudden events (Reichstag fire).

In the United States, there was also a radical departure from tradition and a consolidation of government power, but these were in the form of Franklin Roosevelt’s coming to office and instituting the New Deal to meet the challenges of the Great Depression. During 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Civil Works Administration, and the Federal Trade Commission were established, while the US was taken off the gold standard and Prohibition was repealed. The changes were dramatic and far-reaching and initiated a new phase in American history.

As the oil spill in the Gulf looms, as climate change threatens, as the cracks in the financial edifice of civilization begin to break through, and as the Taliban/fundamentalist resurgence throughout the Middle East continues to press hard against the West, there are many fault lines that could erupt in the coming years. It seems likely we will see tremendous turmoil during the Uranus/Pluto square of 2012 through 2015 out of which much will be transformed in the world we know. With Uranus now moving into Aries, new discoveries, scientific breakthroughs, and shifting government power structures and alliances are all quite possible. But, as this volatile and rebellious planet moves closer and closer to its square with Pluto, significant challenges - economic, political, and environmental - are likely to intensify and be met with extraordinary vehemence. As of 2010, the global birth pangs are only just beginning that indicate the world’s imminent movement toward the next phase of its history.

This and the straw sound good to me. Forget about the noxious chemicals.

Nancy,

It’ll be very interesting to watch out for the impact of Uranus in Aries, given that renewal energy has been available, but under-resourced, since the 1970’s. Maybe this time it will finally happen and I hope you’re right!

Apparently the NYT totally misrepresented the facts around Blumenthal:

http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh052110.shtml#GAMBLING

The New York times had 3 examples of Blumenthal misstating his military record. Of those we know one was technically accurate, one was in a speech in which he did say he wasn’t a VietNam vet, and one was a case where he over stated. In the same article we heard about how he wasn’t on the swim team but said he was captain. Turns out he was on the swim team and didn’t say he was captain. Oops.

Now we find out the following.

The Advocate thus seems to have located one new instance in which Blumenthal may have misstated. On the other hand, the Hartford Courant’s Colin McEnroe contacted a wide range of Connecticut political reporters about the Blumenthal matter (click here). McEnroe says he “asked reporters, anchors and columnists” to tell him “whether they could remember Blumenthal ever claiming to have served in Vietnam” and “whether they had been under the impression…that Blumenthal had served in Vietnam.” Again and again, these experienced reporters told McEnroe that they had never seen Blumenthal misstate his record, and that they never believed that he had served in Nam. This tracks the earlier statement by Christopher Keating, the Courant’s Hartford bureau chief. On Tuesday evening’s NewsHour, Keating told Judy Woodruff that he had attended many veterans events at which Blumenthal spoke, but he never heard him misstate his record (see THE DAILY HOWLER, 5/20/10).

One experienced observer after another say that he has never heard Blumenthal misstate his record. If the New York Times was trying to present a full picture of this marginal matter, it’s hard to know why evidence like this was missing from its original, massive front-page hit piece. But then, how awful does that original report by Raymond Hernandez seem to be? This awful:

In our own original treatment of this matter, we cited the peculiar passage in which Hernandez seemed to suggest that Blumenthal had lied about being on the Harvard swim team (see THE DAILY HOWLER, 5/18/10). “Records at the college show that he was never on the team,” Hernandez haplessly wrote. Yesterday, the Hartford Courant quoted a captain of the Harvard swim team saying that Blumenthal was on the team. And not only that! “A photo from the 1964 Harvard College yearbook… shows Blumenthal participating in a Harvard swim meet his freshman year,” the Courant further reported.

Starlight - Wow! Thank you for such a detailed, all-encompassing heads up on Uranus in Aries. It actually is very encouraging given the present state of affairs.

I hope they start using the straw and Costner’s ideas immediately. I have to concur with the criticism that Obama/govt. is moving too slowly, and also wonder why BP is still in charge. There doesn’t seem to be a sense of urgency like the rest of us feel.

Starlight and Lorrie:

BP supplies close to 40% of the oil and gas for the Department of Defense. This is why you haven’t heard much from the Feds, including Obama.

BP has been at war with EPA Administrations since Clinton, because of their screw-ups elsewhere due to cost-cutting.

The EPA has been biting at the literal bit to de-bar BP as their chief contractor for oil for the military. But that is a sticky wicket to handle. Remember, we have two wars started under false pretenses that have given BP free rein to make profit since 9-11.

I will post a link in the next few minutes.

Here you go:

http://www.propublica.org/feature/epa-officials-weighing-sanctions-against-bps-us-operations

Here’s one of the money quotes from the article:

“Discretionary debarment is a step that government investigators have long sought to avoid, and which many experts had considered highly unlikely because BP is a major supplier of fuel to the U.S. military. The company could petition U.S. courts for an exception, arguing that ending that contract is a national security risk. That segment of BP’s business alone was worth roughly $4.6 billion over the last decade, according to the government contracts website USAspending.”

Starlight,

Uranian Renaissance is a marvelously informative and hopeful discourse on the qualities and proclivities of all things associated with that riotous planet of innovative genius. Although its passage through the last degrees of Pisces has indeed seemed to have unleashed all of the billowing lack of boundaries most often associated with the nature of Neptune (think under-water clouds of oil and airborne clouds of volcanic ash) has been painful to endure, your discussion of the character it will assume once ensconced in the cardinal degree of Aries offers much hope for resolution and the clarity of purpose and purification oft associated with the element of fire.

On an entirely personal note, I will no doubt, experience some rather potent effects of the ruler of Aquarius as it will conjunct my sun in June and effect Uranus on my midheaven. i have a combined feeling of exciting anticipation with that of a certain degree of angst as we never really know how the “surprise” element of Uranus will manifest.

Thank you for this very rich profile of the planet of sudden, “out-of-the-blue” gifts of wisdom.

Pat C: The video you posted (last post) about the guys demonstrating a green cleanup of the oil is really cool. Seemingly so simple. At least it gets it off the water. One step. Now, if only that idea could make it though the bureaucracy of the EPA and/or leadership of BP. It was ‘free’ advice too!

Starlight - Thank you for such a thoughtful and profound astrological analysis that sets the stage for the next half decade. I like how you take a global perspective. My goal is to keep a glass-half-full attitude and be excited about the unknown, but realistically it sounds like quite a mix is ahead. It’s a lot of ’stuff’ to process. Keep up the EXCELLENT work.

Thank you All for the nice comments!! I think the first phase of Uranus in Aries accompanied by Jupiter has the potential to be quite beneficial, although brief. It moves into Aries on May 28, and I am hoping to get some read on the new energies early on. It could be quite subtle at first although Jupiter should liven things up.

Will and Jackson - The Jupiter transit should really help a lot to make Uranus’ changes beneficial and pleasant in early June. And Jupiter comes back twice more!!

Starlight-thank you for focusing our imaginations on the potential of Uranus and Jupiter and then helping us to prepare for the Uranus/Pluto square later on.
I thank you heartily for the insight into what the NYT was attempting to do to Blumenthal. I heard many people state that they never personally heard Blumenthal “misstate” his service although media personnel were just beside themselves to condemn and lynch him. I for one am grateful for this news.

clymela - I am hoping that Blumenthal can turn this into an attack on McMahon, whose campaign prepared this misleading “research” and fed it to the Times. I was also very happy to hear that the smear was quite exaggerated and partly untrue.

That was your best post ever in my view, Starlight. It shows a sweeping, wide-angle look at world history that is rarely attained. Hitler and FDR both came into power in early 1933 during Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Cancer. Both died in April 1945 when Pluto was leaving Cancer and entering Leo. Good and evil were so clear-cut in those days, although not as obvious to everyone. I expect right-wing extremism to rise again to frightening heights, even though it is fear-based and thrives on ignorance. The difference between those times and now is that the survival of the planet and the human race was not at stake. That only became an issue when the atom bombs were dropped on Japan. This time, will severe economic and environmental dislocation lead to war or do we now collectively sense this is to be avoided at all costs and there just has to be another way forward?

On a personal note, my wife currently has her Saturn return at 29 Virgo and Uranus opposite her natal Saturn, while Uranus conjuncts my Mars at 28 Pisces, which is opposed by Saturn. Pluto is squaring my MC at 5 Libra while it crosses my North Node at 5 Cap. Neptune is opposing my Pluto-Moon conjunction at 26-28 Leo, completing a T-square with natal Saturn at 19 Scorpio. Thank God the Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions will trine my natal exact Jup-Ur conj at 25 Cancer, and next year Jup and Ur will trine my Venus and Asc at 4-9 Sag. Heady, volatile, unpredictable, creative, dramatic times indeed.

.

Starlight,

From your sweet little fingers prancing on your keyboard to Hashem’s ears. I promise to share any Uranian flash of insight with you and all herein.

I’m under the impression that Michael from NYC and NeoBuckeye are also 0-Aries solar natives. If we all contribute , you could have living compendium of Uranian influence.

Bravo starlight, this new column uplifts our spirits and comes at a time when needed most.

I read something by Ray Merriman at StarIQ that took me by surprise. I was unaware that Jupiter was considered a “co-ruler of oil.” Am I the only one? I’m assuming that being a co-ruler of Pisces is where he is coming from on this.

He further says that “Jupiter and Saturn together can represent “judgment” as in judgment of the highest court in the land”, and alludes that the Jupiter-Saturn opposition happening in a few hours might lead us back to their conjunction in 2000 when George W. Bush was determined to be the new President by the Supreme Court.

http://www.stariq.com/pagetemplate/article.asp?PageID=10187

If this is so then transiting Jupiter was forming a t-square with the U.S. (Sibly) natal Neptune-Mars square on April 20. When Jupiter returns to Pisces it will retrograde back as far as 23+ Pisces this November. Where will the progressed U.S. Moon be by then?

Talk about a “sudden flash of understanding” (the Moon is opposite Uranus right now!), I just realized that in the U.S. Sibly chart the Galactic Center (in 1776) was only at 23 Sagittarius 10, making that a natal t-square just waiting to become a grand mutable cross. No wonder it’s taking so long to plug the damn leaks!

A little late to the party here, but huzzahs to Nancy for the insightful article on Uranus, and thanks for the comment with the namecheck for Will and I. And I, too, will be checking in with updates on how the Uranus-Jupiter conjunction at our 00 Aries Sun is manifesting in my life. I’m a little thrashed; I just got home from Chico, a town two hours north of here, where I watched my just-turned 22-year-old Taurus daughter get her BA in anthropology and environmental studies. Dunno if I mentioned the other news, but I started a new full-time job at a big electronics plant last Tuesday. Not sure how Uranian that is, but I’ve been out of work since the end of 2007, and at points have literally starved. I’m still sleeping on a massage table on the third floor of a dance club, the gust of an Englishman who plays loud tango, flamenco and fado music when I’m trying to sleep, and yodels along with the melodies, not always successfully. But I’m grateful for what I have, even though I’ve lost everything big — house, car, marriage, stuff. At least things feel like they’re turning around now.

Thanks for the great blog, Nancy.

Jackson. . that is VERY Uranian. . .electronics?

Congratulations on both the job and your daughter’s graduation. How very exciting. Some day this story will be fun to tell, massage table and all.

Jackson - Congratulations on both fronts. It is no small thing to get a kid through college these days. How is the new job going? It does seem like things have finally started turning around.

barb - The US prog Moon is moving from square to Mars to conjunct Neptune. And this never ending oil spill that is literally dissolving life on the Gulf Coast is certainly Neptunian. Every time we think we have it plugged, we don’t. Neptune, Neptune, Neptune. I assume as you do, Jupiter is only co-ruler of oil due to its co-rulership of Pisces.

It seems to me, the Taliban is getting more brazen (pr Moon square US Mars) of late. They attacked Bagram air base a few days ago and now they have attacked Kandahar air base. I don’t remember them actually getting so close to our bigger bases previously, though maybe I missed it.

Jackson,

Amazing grace! Let it be, let it be, let it be.

I haven’t read the new post yet Nancy, but wanted to bring this here. I think it’s important.

Nancy,

brewer is doing very well in rasmussen polling right now, but it does lean gop.. does she have any aspects now showin why she is popular now?

does nov 2nd look bad for her

How will Aries’ ruler Mars leaving Leo going into Virgo on June 7th influence the Uranus - Jupiter conj.in Aries on June 8th, do you think?

lizzie - Mars at 00 Virgo will activate Jupiter/Uranus because it will be in an exact quincunx. Lots of energy. But once in Virgo, it will provide a calmer energy than Mars in a fire sign ruling the Aries planets.

Tim - Brewer looks really strong through July with Jupiter opposite her Sun all month, but she seems to have some trouble at the end of August around the primary. If she gets through the primary, she could win the election due to the Venus station on her Venus for much of November. But the primary looks much more difficult than it seems right now for some reason.

According to the Larousse Encyclopedia of Astrology (translated in English in 1980) Uranus in Aires from 1927-1934/35 was about “pioneering in technology, including the first digital computer, cyclotron, Charles Lindbergh’s flight. Contributions from this generation: non-conformism (Jackie O, Warhol, Yoko Ono). By the way the book was from 1977 in French so I’m amazed that they’d single out the digital computer — this was when the first PCs were just coming out. My bet is that we may see breakthroughs in nuclear power and I hope space exploration.

Hello Nancy,

Your latest post, Uranian Renaissance, is probably the closest thing to near-time prophecy I have seen from any prognosticator – astrological or otherwise. Thanks for the great post, and for the heads-up.

I also wished to mention that an acquaintance of mine, who’s associated with a highly successful money fund, just informed me the firm moved to a 100% cash-position, a few days ago.

This is consequential, as the fund has generated solid returns, even in the current down-market, and because most of the US media is peddling the story the national economy is recovering.

In light of this, for a fund to liquidate its client’s worldwide holdings, at this time, and move to a cash-only status, is of note.

Sincerely,

Vince Smith

Terrific romp through history and back, Nancy. In addition to Uranian impulse creativity, it feels as though we are also becoming indescriminate about “leadership.” There are far too many who want fast, easy solutions to an encyclopedic list of greivances. A set up for someone with Hitlerean energy promising to give everyone a dose of quick fix.

The following Atlantic piece is insightful on another aspect of my above statement. That is, that so-called leaders like Rand Paul may have skated through primaries because of a lack of press coverage. In-depth (or reliable as in the NYT’s Blumenthal piece) coverage is no longer matter of fact with today’s papers.
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2010/05/explaining-the-rand-paul-disaster/57118/

Fe, that was an astounding piece of info on BP! Thank YOU!

Vince - That is pretty unnerving. If we get through the final Saturn/Pluto square in August, I will feel much better and safer.

The 29th degree of Pisces is really an interesting degree because it represents the old paradigm before the new one is in place. Remember the Iraq War was birthed with a 29 Pisces Sun. The initial goals shifted completely, became void of course in a way, once we were there. But with Uranus, we will see the new and then fall back into the old before really moving forward. Nonetheless, we get Uranus and Jupiter together for the first two weeks. We should all be watching for hints about what this will mean.

Great analysis, Nancy. Even though my 29 degree Libra Sun is feeling besieged right now, reading this post supports my feeling Jupiter-Uranus conj in Aries is going to bring better news. Biggest challenge with those two teaming up in Aries is not throwing the baby out with the bathwater . . .

Still feel the full magnitude of the mess in the Gulf is yet to be seen.

diane~

Karen-we are now receiving evidence that the NYT is unreliable also. They smeared Blumenthal And we can never forget the NYT part in the beginning of the ME war in Iraq. I mean no disrespect toward you just pointing out that NYT ia not innocent nor unbiased simply powerful.
Starlight-I agree that Vince’s news is unnerving. The reminder of that 29th degree is helpful and rattling at the same time.
Vince-this is one of those times when I want to say “Thank you”-I think. Necessary info but so unnerviung.

One more thing-yesterday as I was laying down to take a nap I was listening to someone naming off all the huge changes of the Obama administration. This man is complex but is in no way a sell-out and he is working to get us back on track. Wish I had details but as I said I was drifting away listening to something my S had on. I fell asleep in greater peace than I have felt of late.

Heh! No surprise here, but oh so interesting.

Saudi King slams intelligence leak

The King of Saudi Arabia has strongly criticized the country’s intelligence officials for disclosing a secret document, which shows Riyadh has links with terrorist activities carried out by al-Qaeda in Iraq.

More at the link….

I am forwarding a link to a DU post that is more informative of the Gulf of Mexico reality. I am thinking that this could support some deep meditations, etc when Uranus returns to the 29 Pisces point later this year:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389×8385057

Fe,

I read the article you provided a link to, “EPA Officials Weigh Sanctions Against BP’s U.S. Operations” and want to tell you how valuable this information is to me as well. It appears that the research, if not the relationship between BP and the U.S., goes back 10 years. the irony is that the opposition this morning between Saturn and Jupiter is the half-way mark in the cycle of 20 years that started 10 years ago with the conjunction of these two social/political planets.

In an article published in the May 2000 Dell Horoscope magazine the author provides information and speculation as to what this cycle could mean. This 20 year cycle is part of a greater cycle, referred to as a Great Mutation, in which the 20 year cycles are in the same element. In this case the element is earth and in 2000 the conjunction was in Taurus.

These Great Mutations represent evolutionary type changes “indicative of long-term societal influences” and this one began in 1842 in Capricorn. The new Great Mutation will begin in in 2020 with the conjunction taking place in the element of air. This makes our present cycle in which we are at the mid-point, a transitioning cycle moving from the earth element to the air element.

Author Kris Brandt-Riske wrote at the time “. .the goal during the next 20 years is to finish what was begun at the onset of the earth Mutation while combining it with the principles of air - to take something from earth to enhance air.” He takes us through the history of the last century and a half with numerous examples of what we would associate with the earth element that have developed, with “emphasis on material acquisition.”

Here is why I think the present 20 year cycle is relevant to what I read in the article you provided. Brandt-Riske notes the chart for the conjunction of Jupiter Saturn in 2000 is square to Uranus in Aquarius. ” (this aspect) signifies a sudden grassroots push for changes in the educational and justice systems - a return to Taurean basics”. . . . . . “Before attempting change, a Saturnian goal and a Jupiterian vision must first be established and then followed by a THOROUGH EVALUATION OF CURRENT CONDITIONS to achieve success. A continued focus on the environment will bring expanded efforts to preserve and protect Earth, possibly as the result of new and alarming information.”

It sounds like this is what the EPA will be doing regarding the 10 year association with BP and its questionable judgments and policies regarding the drilling for oil in the U.S. land and waters.

As to the Jupiter-Saturn cycle itself there are a couple of points of interest. The conjunction this morning was at 27 degrees, 52 minutes of Pisces (Jupiter) and Virgo (Saturn). The U.S. natal Sibly chart has Pluto at 27 Capricorn 33 rx, representing money and powerful influences in the 2nd house and trine Saturn near the MH and sextile Jupiter near the nadir. To me this describes the barrel (haha) we are over, we being the government and the people. We need them (BP), or at least we think we do.

The other point of interest is that the 2000 conjunction took place at 22 Taurus 42. This would put it on the cusp of the U.S. chart’s 6th house cusp and trine the U.S. natal Neptune at 22 Virgo 25. On an esoteric note, the conjunction would have also been conjunct the U.S. natal Vesta (investments) at 19 Taurus 46 and the even more obscure natal asteroid Atlantis (sinking? other oil rig in Gulf?) at 23 Taurus 10.

As starlight has reminded us, the U.S. progressed Moon has just left the conjunction to the U.S. natal Mars (explosion, anger) and is soon to conjunct the U.S. natal Neptune(oil, deception & compassion for the wildlife?) Perhaps the people will speak out, grassroots style, and demand that BP be barred from receiving government contracts.

Uranus into Aries - Full Moon Baptism by Fire - 5-27-10‏
Carol Ann Ciocco Newsletter

Hello Friends! I hope you are well and happy. I have some urgent astrological news for you with this newsletter. The Summer of 2010 has some important astrological landmarks. For starters, on MAY 27, 2010 we have an astrological holiday (of sorts) Yes, the ‘big-doings’ in astrology right now center around the movement of the planet Uranus into the sign of Aries on May 27, 2010 - the same day as the Full Moon in Sagittarius. This is a big deal. It is the beginning of a march toward more ‘big doings’ in August concerning the formation of a Cross in the sky. See below for more information on Jupiter into Aries.

IN JULY: Alert! Alert! Total Solar Eclipse! Total Solar Eclipse! Total Solar Eclipse! Need I say more? Well, adding a TSE to the mix of this summer’s powder-keg energies makes our times that much more … interesting … if you know what I mean. I will be offering more information on the eclipse in forthcoming newsletters, so stay tuned.

IN AUGUST: As if all of that weren’t enough, the planet Uranus - newly minted and rip-roaring forward in the sign of Aries - is then going to form a Cross in the sky with three other potently placed planets in the most powerful points of the zodiac (Mars and Saturn in Libra, Jupiter and Uranus in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn, North Node by wide orb in Cancer).

By August, we will have such a turbo-boosted, nearly-impossible-to-contain energy on our hands that we will wonder what happened. (One of those “WHA??” moments) The in-rush could make your head spin. (Oh and P.S. it has already started. You may know what I am talking about if you are one of those who is feeling the PRE-shocks of this energy shift)

This Cross is called the Cardinal Cross (or the Cardinal Climax by some). Over the next few months I will offer information concerning this very important energy signature which marks a fierce opening gate to our tumultuous entry into the 21st century.

Historic Markers of Uranus into Aries

Uranus changes signs every 7 years; and as it shifts signs it adds color to the prevailing zeitgeist of the time. I remember as a child, my mother (who was very superstitious) told me that if you break a mirror, you will have 7 years of bad luck. And we also know that every 7 years the physical cells of our body die and are replaced by new cells. So when Uranus changes signs, symbolically we have a chance to renew, to slough off old ways of being (literally on a cellular level), and maybe even break a spell of bad luck :)

Uranus has an 84 year cycle through the 12 zodiac signs. The last time that Uranus was in Aries was in 1927. Uranus’ entry into Aries in 2010 triggers the Cardinal Climax and is even more intense than what we had in 1927. That’s because we have the addition of Mars in the picture and three of the five planets are at 0 degrees cardinal signs, the most potent and powerful positions in the entire zodiac.

What was happening in 1927? The general theme of that time was the development of motorized vehicles, which created a revolutionary leap into modern times (Uranus) concerning how people MOVE (Aries). Some other examples of big changes in how we move in 1927: The Holland Tunnel under the Hudson River opened on November 13th connecting New York City with Jersey; Charles Lindbergh flew The Spirit of St. Louis across the Atlantic nonstop and solo, direct from New York City to Paris, in the first solo transatlantic flight.

NOTE: in 1843, the time previous to 1927 when Uranus was in Aries, the first major wagon train heading for the Northwest set out with one thousand pioneers from Elm Grove, Missouri on the Oregon Trail.

Throw in the futuristic nature of the 21st century (and the Aquarian Age) and you get things like “Beam me up Scotty” instead of wagon trails. See the section below entitled “It’s Happening Already” for a brief discussion of the real-life announcement on May 20, 2010 of successful lateral teleportation http://bit.ly/dpBApH. One small step 10 feet over, one giant leap into new ways of moving forward.

In addition, as you well know, within 2 years (i.e. in 1929) of Uranus going into Aries we had the massive stock-market crash which ushered in the Great Depression. In our current economic climate, it does make one wonder. Indeed, we will be under severe stress this year from the most dynamic and tension-producing cycles we have seen since the Great Depression

More from Carol Ann Ciocco Newsletter…

Over the next 7 years we will learn to play with incorrigible fire. Holding a charge was a pre-requisite for this new lesson. We will get burned and then we will carry more light, heat, and juice which will blaze a path of change into the future.

Uranus in Aries has such amazing potential for brain-storms! You will be knocked off your socks, baby! We will have the ability download incredible breakthrough information and inspiration while in a cauldron of purification fire. But what’s new here is that we will also have the ability to TAKE ACTION on it. No more out to sea.

The Horrific Oil Spill still spewing off the Gulf Coast could be related to the last movements of Uranus in Pisces. As Uranus has been plowing through the last degree of the sign of the ocean (Pisces), the sea blew a gasket (Uranus). You better believe this will create change (Uranus now moving into Aries). As a last hurrah, Uranus helped Neptune (Pisces’ go-to guy) to release the Kracken - catalyzing a focus for the new Aries expression.

A MESSAGE OF GREAT URGENCY from Chief Arvol Looking Horse of the Lakota Tribe, 19th generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe: “We ask for prayers that the oil spill, this bleeding, will stop. Pray for the people to be guided in repairing this mistake, and… that we may also seek to live in harmony, as we make the choice to change the destructive path we are on.” (released May 12, 2010) http://bit.ly/aJkzeu

Already the markings of the Uranus in Aries shift are appearing in sudden ways in the form of MASSIVE revolutionary New Beginnings and Breakthroughs in Technology. For instance, did you see these coming? :

5-20-10 Birth of the first synthetic cell ~ http://bit.ly/dpBApH, http://bit.ly/9h4tSz. People, this is HUGE. Aries is the first strident potent arcing energy of the seed being born, pushing up through the cold soil to reveal budding new life where there was none before. With Uranus’ off-planet, technological, artificial-intelligence energies, this new seed is synthetic! This seed will lead to full-blown Artificial Intelligence when Pluto enters Aquarius in 2024 (if not before) and as the radical energies continue to unfold into the 21st century. Mind-blowing strides toward this end will occur over the next 7 years. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it.

5-20-10 Quantum Teleportation Achieved Across 10 Miles http://bit.ly/dpBApH. Ok, here’s another one of those like wow moments. Beam me up Scotty! Technology (Aquarius) will transform how we move (Aries) and our actions (Aries) will become instantaneous - a shocking and radical realization of science fiction (Aquarius). Live Long and Prosper indeed.

Is anyone else feeling both stressed and somewhat paralyzed about what to do with their stocks or money market funds? With the upcoming cardinal cross and warnings from varying sources to get into cash or more secure positions (thanks to Vincent Smith for his latest post), I feel like I’m looking at an oncoming train wreck and unable to react adequately. It seems to contradict all we were ever taught about not making hasty moves in the stock market. Just sharing a little private angst here!

As far as the Uranus/Jupiter conjunction at 0 Aries goes, I’m hoping with all my heart that it means my husband will finally land a job after being out of work for a year. He has a 0 Cap ASC, so he’ll have Uranus, Jupiter, and Saturn square the ASC, Neptune sextile ASC, etc. At the same time, he has progressed Jupiter trine P Uranus within 1 degree– and several other interesting aspects, too. Here’s hoping all that energy is going to mean SOMETHING positive! I’ll keep you posted.

Forgot to add that Jupiter is ruler of both his progressed MC and progressed ASC. So the repetition of the Jupiter/Uranus aspects, echoing his natal Jupiter/Uranus trine, seems significant to me.

I’ve had schpilkas all last night and today - this week will require allot of meditation and centering.

Uranian shpilkes, Will? I called you earlier to discuss. I’m feeling it, too, although with the new job and my daughter’s graduation, it’s in a good way.

I feel a little restless and looking for direction these days-Uranus/Jupiter is trining my Ascendant at 29 Scorpio, and will soon trine my NorthNode/Saturn at 0 Sagittarius. It’s like I’m looking for a goal of some kind, having flunked out of college-just what should I do next?

With all the change Obama has brought, pundits are commending it but adding that it is not as sweeping as was the New Deal. However, the planets that compare to the New Deal will come in Obama’s 2nd term: Uranus square Pluto in Cardinal signs and exactly aspecting the US Sun. …April 1932 to January 1934 compared to June 2012 through March 2015.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/22/business/economy/22leonhardt.html

With the Senate’s passage of financial regulation, Congress and the White House have completed 16 months of activity that rival any other since the New Deal in scope or ambition. Like the Reagan Revolution or Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, the new progressive period has the makings of a generational shift in how Washington operates.

First came a stimulus bill that, while aimed mainly at ending a deep recession, also set out to remake the nation’s educational system and vastly expand scientific research. Then President Obama signed a health care bill that was the biggest expansion of the safety net in 40 years. And now Congress is in the final stages of a bill that would tighten Wall Street’s rules and probably shrink its profit margins.

If there is a theme to all this, it has been to try to lift economic growth while also reducing income inequality. Growth in the decade that just ended was the slowest in the post-World War II era, while inequality has been rising for most of the last 35 years.

The recent period surely will not match the impact of the New Deal. Nothing is likely to, notes David Kennedy,a Pulitzer Prize-winning historian, because the New Deal created much of the modern American government. “These are not as dramatic as the foundational moments,” Mr. Kennedy said, “but they’re significant changes.”

starlight,

I remember you typing that Brewer’s stars did not look good on election day.. is the venus aspect just one of the positive aspects?

Starlight,

What the administration is doing is significant, and Thank You for your posts. It helps to balance the disconnected MSM punditry, and helps put the focus on the energy that is coming. I look forward to a renaissance, truly.

Most Americans have “come to believe that the political system is broken, that most politicians are corrupt, and that neither major political party has the answers,” observes Scott Rasmussen. In his new book, he adds, “Some of us are ready to give up and some of us are ready to scream a little louder. But all of us believe we can do better.

tim - Brewer’s difficult planets come around the primary. I thought she might not make it through that part of the process. That seems unlikely now unless some big scandal emerges in August that impacts her support. November is not so clear.

Will,

As much as I would enjoy counting myself among all of the awesome Zero-Point Ariens here, the closest I can get is my South Node at 5 Aries(NN at 5 Libra).

Nonetheless, the next few years will be lively for me. My Natal Jupiter is at 2 Cancer and my Moon is at 6/7 Capricorn; count the nodes, and I’ve got my very own natal Grand Cross being activated by all of the cardinal activity this year and into 2011. It’ll be interesting, to say the least!

On a more serious note, I’m sure it’s pretty obvious by now to all of us here that this oil gusher (which it truly is) is a MAJOR, multi-alarm RED ALERT wake up call for all of humanity. The fact that it happened within America’s sphere of influence within the Gulf of Mexico is no accident, given that we are by far the most profligate users and addicts of this nasty stuff.

And as bad as it may seem on its face, we’re only at the beginning of massive incidents of the sort that are necessary to jolt the collective awake from its comatose slumber. They’ll keep coming at us as long as we remain asleep, unaware, and worst of all, wilfully ignorant of our destructive SHADOW behavior.

We’re well beyond “right vs. left” at this point. We’ve all got to somehow put blame aside, come together and work together. That’s the ONLY way we can and will survive and overcome these crises.

Very well written article, Nancy. One of your best!

I had a strong intuition that the Uranus shift into Aries, is going to result in a rash of MSM pundits
blurting out the truth , in spite of themselves.

Also 9-11 years ago when I was teaching Art at the YWCA in BANGOR, to kids 6 - 12, ( Pluto in Scorpio, all; Indigo Children) I developed a firm belief, that they would generate an Art Renaissance. They are now 15 - 23 years old!
My first assignment was: ” You are King/Queen for the Day. Draw a picture of your world the way you want it to be.”
Across the board their worlds included, homeless shelters, food kitchens, recycle centers, green energy, healthy food production………….
Only 1 or 2 went the “Pink Barbie in a crown/material goods route!”, that one would expect from the media input they were getting.

Up too early listening to the early morning news. One thing that bugs me and really bugs me is measuring everything by whether humans are directly impacted. I feel like screaming as we witness the photos of the birds, turtles, fish, dolphins all “impacted by the spill”. Perhaps we will do better once we are able to drop the” humans crown creation” belief.
Perhaps Neptune in the 6th makes me so aware of “small animals” but I don’t see how we are superior. We gave different abilities among them the ability to destroy the world.

JP officials commandeer BP’s hired boats in Grand Isle

GRAND ISLE, La. - Jefferson Parish Emergency managers say they have commandeered all of BP’s hired boats in Grand Isle.

A representative for Jefferson Parish Emergency chief Deano Bonano said they requested immediate action after oil moved into the marsh passes and onto the beaches in Grand Isle. He said more than 40 boats were sitting idle while he watched the oil rush into the passes. At around 5:30 p.m., Jefferson Councilman Chris Roberts confirmed the boats have been commandeered by JP emergency managers.

NEOBuckeye said “We’re well beyond “right vs. left” at this point. We’ve all got to somehow put blame aside, come together and work together. That’s the ONLY way we can and will survive and overcome these crises.”

THIS x eleventy-billion. Those who can see the big picture have to do all they can do to help wake up those who are asleep.

Good points, all. Thank you, Nancy, for a well-thought out piece. Clearly, big stuff is on the horizon and we will all be impacted, one way or another. Working together is the only way through it all.

Really, really important Krugman article today:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/24/opinion/24krugman.html?hp

Much reporting on opposition to the Obama administration portrays it as a sort of populist uprising. Yet the antics of the socialism-and-death-panels crowd are only part of the story of anti-Obamaism, and arguably the less important part. If you really want to know what’s going on, watch the corporations.

As US prog Moon reaches exact square to natal Mars this week and we move toward Uranus in Aries (conjunct Jupiter soon in Aries) the next day, US military told to be on alert on Korean border:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37309788/ns/world_news-asiapacific

The corporate crowd is the most frightening factor in all of this “anti-Obamaism.” The corporate mentality is one of weakness, cowardliness and one that desperately needs to conform and belong to a big bully in order to feel strength in numbers. Its such a pathetic mind-set. And you can damn sure be certain that the obscenely-compensated Wall Street Crowd is screaming from the regulations being legislated - that’s why we see the big dips in the stock market - because its a big game-changer. What the old guard of rethugs and obstructionists don’t yet understand (due to fear, denial and/or rageful rebelliousness) is that the Uniteds States of America Inc. of the latter 20th Century is OVER. Its OVER!!! The dynamics of irrevocable change are already in motion. The Age of American Empire is Over. Its not coming back. These neck-tie dweebz will make all kinds of desperate attempts to get back to the cowboy days of GWB and Regan, only to be ground under the millstone of Plutonian transformation. And as Starlight has so exquisitely written in Uranian Renaissance, the real thrust of this painful metamorphosis will be seen in 2012 to 2015. So, we are just goiing to have to see the Obstructionists and Glenbeckistanians and Limbaugh Lunatics sh-t all over themselves over the next few years.

Thinngs are shifting and changing in mega-fashion with the speed of a computer-key-pad stroke these days. I for one, am not at all convinced that its doomsday for the Dems or Obama.

I believe Obama is going to get a second term and I believe the “conservative” movement is going to fizzle this fall. Just my thinking.

Starlight:

Loved the Krugman piece, and quite honestly, the corporations’ response to Obama reminds me of the courtiers from the palace of Versailles during the period of King Louis 15 through 16.

TALK UNDER WAY: Congressional leaders, gay rights advocates and Pentagon officials are meeting at the White House Monday morning to discuss an emerging deal on repealing the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” ban on gays in the military.

The administration confirmed that proposals are being discussed but declined to comment on specific details.

“Given that Congress insists on addressing this issue this week, we are trying to gain a better understanding of the legislative proposals they will be considering,” said Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell.

Fe - Could be. Pluto was in Cap for several years before the Declaration of Independence and a few years after. I think that Krugman article says it all and reminds us what is really happening under the surface.

DPH,
From what two very conservative market watchers John Hussman and Richard Russell are saying go to cash as quickly as you can.

“My intent here is not to encourage disciplined investors to deviate from carefully considered investment plans. But if a recession or a bear market would produce unacceptable losses or would force you to abandon your investment plan, it is best to begin altering your investment position immediately (even if not entirely at once) toward a position that you can maintain regardless of market outcomes.”

He said essentially the same thing in November 2007. So essentially go to Cash Now.

(1) he believes that 120,000 barrels of oil are spewing up from the Deepwater Horizon spill each day. Not the lesser amounts BP claims.
(2) The well is uncontainable. Current technology will not be able to withstand the deep water pressures.
(3) The well may take 9000 days to deplete itself.
(4) Will probably deplete most all or possibly the entire Gulf of its oxygen.
(5) He is concerned his assesswment may be too optimistic!

starlight,

Thanks for pinpointing the progressed U.S. Moon square U.S. natal Mars. Can you believe its North Korea? deja vu all over again. To corroberate your news, the same day Uranus enters Aries there is the full Moon at 6 Sag 33 with the Sun at 6 Gemini 33 and 2 degrees from the U.S. natal Uranus and 1 degree from the progressed U.S. Uranus.

Six days after Jupiter reaches Aries the New Moon (6/12) is at 21 Gemini 24 and conjunct the U.S. Mars at 21 Gemini 23. Trans. Venus is sextile trans Saturn and opposite U.S. natal Pluto.

The Full Moon later in June will conjunct trans. Pluto and the Sun will be at the midpoint of the U.S. natal Venus-Jupiter conjunction.

This promises to be a very bumpy ride.

Starlight, this morning’s Krugman article is definitely a must. It ends with him urging Obama to find his inner FDR and reminding readers that in 1936 FDR made a famous speech saying he was proud of the bankers’ hatred and was wearing it like a badge of honor. About six months ago, Pat C provided the audio of that speech and I suggested Obama should listen to it every night. The readers’ comments in the NYT today are mostly unimpressed. One of them said Obama has an inner Blankfein. I do believe the Uranus-Pluto square will force him to shed incremental pragmatism for good (which only brings half-measures that leave huge problems unresolved) and go for the jugular. Many wars are on simultaneously right now, class war, environmental war, government-corporate war,not to mention shooting wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and perhaps Korea. The Uranus-Pluto square in the Thirties led to a Saturn-Pluto square, which brought WWII when Pluto left Cancer after opposing the US Pluto. Pluto in Capricorn is on the same path. Need I remind anyone the Uranus cycle has so far brought major war to the US every 84 years? Next one is due in the 2020s right after the Pluto return in the US natal chart. How long will be we be friends with China in this decade of major deep-seated turmoil and disruption?

From Neptune Cafe:

The Kevin Costner Solution

Last Friday the EPA abruptly changed course and demanded that BP switch to a less toxic solution than the chemical dispersant it’s been using. Surprisingly, since making Waterworld in 1995, actor Kevin Costner has been fine-tuning a massive machine that separates oil from water. Costner, the greentech entrepreneur, will deploy six of his stainless steel centrifugal oil separators this week around Louisiana’s shores.

-snip-

Currently, the closest, most telling planetary passage is progressed Pallas* quincunx natal Jupiter (orb 0º01′). Pallas is associated with “creative intelligence”, a meaning much amplified here since it’s conjunct Costner’s Sagittarius Moon in the third house of ideas. Now that progressed Pallas is meeting up with Jupiter, he has the opportunity to put his vision into action.

Costner’s progressed Sun at 24º Pisces is also aspecting natal Jupiter (orb 0º15′), suggesting much success in this extremely unusual and innovative project. And looking at the outer planet transits, each one is making close, favorable aspects to his natal chart. Costner’s progressed Midheaven recently entered Leo and is about to conjoin his Part of Fortune. In the business sense, this probably indicates hitting the jackpot with his green technology.

http://www.neptunecafe.com/NewsScope.html

LorrieU, I sure hope you are right and Costner hits it big time on this solution.

Six days after Jupiter reaches Aries the New Moon (6/12) is at 21 Gemini 24 and conjunct the U.S. Mars at 21 Gemini 23

Barb - I had completely missed that! It will activate the waning Moon square to Mars. Yikes! That progressed Moon is also now conjunct US Neptune, and what could be more Neptunian than an endless oil leak!

Lorrie - It would really be something if Kostner’s apparatus works, and he starts it literally as Uranus moves into Aries. The actual Ingress is Thursday at 9:50 PM EDT. Louisiana might be Central time, so 8:50 CDT.

I highly recommend The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough. What an appropriate book for this period of time. It’s also available in audio.

Here’s a quote on the description of the story.

“At the end of the last century, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, was a booming coal-and-steel town filled with hardworking families striving for a piece of the nation’s burgeoning industrial prosperity. In the mountains above Johnstown, an old earth dam had been hastily rebuilt to create a lake for an exclusive summer resort patronized by the tycoons of that same industrial prosperity, among them Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and Andrew Mellon. Despite repeated warnings of possible danger, nothing was done about the dam. Then came May 31, 1889, when the dam burst, sending a wall of water thundering down the mountain, smashing through Johnstown, and killing more than 2,000 people. It was a tragedy that became a national scandal.”

There are at least 4,000 oil rigs in the Gluf of Mexico….so far. Scroll down for the rather stunning map. By the way, I think hat oil goes elsewhere, not the US.

http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/vjaffee/photo_with_thousands_of_potent.html

Thanks for the great post and comments. Personally, I’m looking forward to ‘12 — ‘15.

Let’s get on with the show, eh?

Unfortunately, Mother Earth is pissed:

http://monkeyfister.blogspot.com/2010/05/major-change-down-below.html

There seems to be something *not good* happening at the Deepwater disaster site. Makes me think the oil man’s prediction for a 9,000 day leak above is possible.

There are times given for each screen grab, though the first event seems the biggest.

:(

Main Event gas explosion from seabed @ 6:03pm CDT 5/23/10

Starlight and others who have much more astrological expertise than I do, I don’t know if anyone mentioned that Matthew’s latest message has been posted. I don’t know how much credence you put in these messages but I believe they are moire truth than not.

So assuming that we will within the next two years (humor me, Starlight) be visited by “messengers of the light”, from an strological viewpoint when would that be most likely to happen. What planets? Mercury and Uranus?

He talks about astrology in this message.

Lieberman “DADT Repeal” Sham Cedes Civilian Control to Military

The Lieberman sham compromise on Don’t Ask Don’t Tell cedes control of the military from the law-making and law-executing branches of government to the United States military. In effect, this law says open service is legal, but only when the military pleases.

Joe Lieberman, Monday’s progressive hero, has not introduced a repeal of Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell. The legislative language in the much-heralded compromise leaves everything up to our formerly civilian-controlled military and formerly subordinate-to-the-President Secretary of Defense. Sure, there’s a structure for repeal, but there are lots of hoops the military can elect to jump through.

Or not.

This isn’t repeal. This is repeal with a trigger.

And the trigger is in the hand of the President, along with his Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Who do you think holds the whip hand on military matters there?

More at the link….

I have Uranus in the second house at 14 Libra retrograd.

One astrologer told me that I have wide financial swings-either a lot of money or not enough which is disturbing for someone with a Taurus sun.

boo boo…. That is challenging.

Starlight, is it possible to write planetary wise if the repealing the ” Dont ask, dont tell” policy will happen this year?

Roderick,

Unless you are under 32 years of age, you probably already know what your Uranus at 14 in the second house of earned income and values feels/looks like. Maybe it has to do with having unexpected changes with the source of your income. With Libra there, you might see things related to Venus come into play - the financial field, art, object d’art, fashion, jewelry, cosmetics, etc, but all in a cutting-edge, innovative manner.

I would be more concerned if you had Saturn sitting there as well, permanently. You may have a season of buttoning-up, belt-tightening and concentrated discipline and effort coming up with Saturn transiting through those degrees Libra in the next year, but it would be fairly short-lived transit. You might even get some additional training which would augment your earnings.

If Obama doesn’t step up to the plate on this oil disaster, it’s going to be his Katrina. And he’ll deserve to have it be his Katrina because he holds all the power in the world to do something and he’s done NOTHING.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/25/science/25snow.html?src=un&feedurl=http%3A%2F%2Fjson8.nytimes.com%2Fpages%2Fscience%2Findex.jsonp

From Trees and Grass, Bacteria That Cause Snow and Rain

herald - I can’t predict specifically when DADT will end, but I do think that the movement of Uranus into Aries brings many new possibilities and the beginning of a new cycle in many areas. If we think of Uranus as “ruling” those who do things outside the mainstream of conventional behavior, one might say it rules gays. And so, Uranus moving into a new cycle beginning with Aries would seem to me to be a very good indication of the end of this policy. It might finally end once Uranus moves back into Aries next March or April. In the next few months, however, we will get at taste of what that will look like because it is there for a few months (June through mid-August). The current attempt to get an agreement between the WH and the Pentagon to give to Congress would seem to fit this timetable.

Marta,

You assume there is a way to FIX millions of gallons of oil that’s already spewed out into the ocean and into wetlands and onto beaches. Do you really think there’s a way to fix that?

Or that there is a way to cap that oil well 5,000 feet below the surface of the water. From what I’ve read (when we get past all the people screaming for it to be fixed) is that it’s never been done before. Never had a well this deep spewing out oil that we managed to cap.

This isn’t like finding shelter for people in a hurricane or sending a bus to take them to safety after the storm. We know how to do that. It’s possible to do that.

We don’t know how to do this. It’s probably not possible to do this.

–Teresa

Teresa,
great, so with that in mind, let’s just all give up and do nothing. Guess you and Obama are on the same page..

Thanks Will. Actually I turned 38 a couple of weeks ago.

I am not sure any of the fields that you mentioned fit me because presently I’m an engineer, but I do want to go back to school and study genetic engineering…maybe the Uranus in Libra will have me creating designer babies at some point.

I guess I will have to wait until t-Uranus hits 14 Aries to give me the jolt that I need to leave my boring job.

As for most of the outer planets moving out of the mutable signs into the cardinal signs I am breathing a sigh of relief because I have at least one planet in a mutable sign in each of the four angular houses and past fifteen or so years have not been fun.

Now if t-Saturn would move off my 29 Rx Virgo Pluto in the 1st and finish squaring my 29 Gemini Venus in the 10th life would be managable.

Marta - I think you have misinterpreted what Teresa was trying to say. She’s not saying let’s give up and do nothing. She’s saying that there is no easy fix and fast solution to this problem, which is beyond the scope of anything we have had to deal with. I wish the response could be quicker to something which should have been prevented in the first place, but blame can be addressed later while they try to figure out some way to stop the flow of oil. That is first and foremost, and no one really believes that Obama is the magic one who can wave a wand and solve all our problems…

At this point you can’t only focus on stopping the well, you have to take extremely proactive steps to contain the damage that the oil which has already escaped into the gulf is doing. And that is what is most definitely not happening and where Obama could be doing a lot, but is not doing anything. The people on the gulf coast are screaming for Obama to help, just like the residents of NO screamed for Bush to help. Same ‘ol, same ‘ol. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Marta,

You are tormenting yourself with magical thinking if you believe Obama’s power holds all of the answers. What would you like him to do, don a wet-suit and scuba tank and go plug the leak with his d-ck?

As Teresa tried to convey and Lorrie wrote, this is a first-time for us as a nation/world/species with this kind of problem. Yes, it is important to write to our elected officials and express our concern and outrage. But more importantly - much, much more importantly, is we need to offer suggestions and make helpful contributions to collectively solve this terrible, unprecedented ecological disaster.

I have no technical skill to contribute, but I have been visualizing the Gulf of Mexico and the leak in my meditations every day and have been invoking the Holy Spirit to inspire those men and women who are working the rigs and technology in their attempts to cap/contain/siphon this monster leak.

Lashing out in bitterness, blame and sarcasm will probably not serve you very well or help this situation.

We will solve this problem and stop this leak.

Color me hopeful.

Remembering Katrina: Why the Gulf Oil Spill is not Obama’s Katrina
by HamdenRice

May 25, 2010 at 11:08:32 AM PDT

The idea that the horrific environmental catastrophe in the Gulf is somehow the Obama administration’s Katrina has been floated in both the mainstream media and the blogosphere for several days now.

While it’s perfectly fair to criticize various aspects of the Obama administration’s response to the oil spill, I would like to remind everyone what “Bush’s Katrina” problem actually was. It wasn’t just a terrible disaster happening on the Louisiana Gulf coast.

It was, in many ways the turning point for the Bush administration, a revelation of incompetence from which that administration never fully recovered politically.

[snip]

The Obama administration’s problems with Deepwater Horizon are different. In 1964, in a Scientific American article on arms control, J. B. Wiesner and H. F. York wrote the disturbing but prophetic line: “It is our considered professional judgment that this dilemma has no technical solution.”

Deepwater Horizon is not Obama’s Katrina for the simple reason that this is not a problem — like delivering water to people dying of thirst on the streets of a major American city — to which there is an easy solution that everyone is aware of. The Obama administration faces a problem to which, right now, there is no solution. That’s different from playing the guitar, eating cake, buying shoes, watching Spamalot and just generally being on vacation while a catastrophe unfolds.

We are horrified by what is going on in the Gulf not just because the Obama administration isn’t “solving the problem” but because we are increasingly aware that at present, there is presently no technical or scientific or engineering solution to the problem that BP created.

The rest of ther article is here:

Marta said:

“At this point you can’t only focus on stopping the well, you have to take extremely proactive steps to contain the damage that the oil which has already escaped into the gulf is doing. And that is what is most definitely not happening and where Obama could be doing a lot, but is not doing anything. The people on the gulf coast are screaming for Obama to help, just like the residents of NO screamed for Bush to help. Same ‘ol, same ‘ol. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”

I am truly mystified by the lack of pollution mitigation of land. I am as frustrated as Marta is here. There is no excuse for it, and I do know what I am talking about here. Can anyone really explain why there is no concrete steps being taken to trap the oil before it saturates the wetland? Boats are sitting idol, and no berming it taking place. No excuse. If it were my land you can be sure I would be taking steps to do everything I could do, not watching it all slowly seeping in. It’s infuriating.

Thank you, PatC. At least somebody gets it.

Marta,

And again, I say, this is the ocean. An incredibly huge thing. Here’s the gulf coastline of the US. Again, a vast thing.

If you think there’s any way to keep an oil spill that large, now spreading out at will throughout the gulf of Mexico, of a coastline as big as the US gulf…. It’s simply not possible. Like breaking a glass into a thousand tiny pieces and saying, Someone glue it back together. It doesn’t go back together.

It’s a huge, ugly truth. We’ve all contributed to making a mess that can’t be fixed. There are no magical answers. There are no non-magical answers. We’ve never had a spill of this size.

Could not agree more and what is more disturbing is there are options right there in the mainstream media!

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/05/24/tech/main6514382.shtml

“Former Shell Oil president John Hofmeister and former Saudi Aramco manager Nick Pozzi told Fast Company that 85 percent of oil from a massive offshore Saudi spill in the early 1990s was cleaned up using supertankers to suck in seawater and oil - millions of barrels at a time - and discharge them in port where the two substances could be separated and treated.

Hofmeister and Pozzi each said they’d tried suggesting the solution to both BP and government officials, and have heard crickets.

Perhaps, as Pozzi tells Fast Company, it’s the downside to the plan: “You tie up oil tankers” - tankers that could be carrying crude above the Gulf’s waters to customers.”

PSW:

Was the Saudi spill referenced by Nick Pozzi on the surface or coming from 5,000 feet below?

There is all kinds of wonderful, cooperative, CONSTRUCTIVE, POSITIVE human energy going into resolving this problem, as we speak:

See pictures:

http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/05/disaster_unfolds_slowly_in_the.html

Was it barbk. who laid out the transit of Chiron in regards to this “spill”? I will try to find it because this “spill” feels like an unending wound that will/can not heal. Remember that Chiron in the end sacrificed his own life because of the unending pain.

Something tells me that the non-stop gusher of oil is supposed to be non stop. For a while. Have you noticed how we, humanity, those of us in countries where we have access to cyber news, move from one disaster or tragedy to the next?

If we go back and review starlights’s blog entries over the last year or so it’s obvious our attention shifts after a couple of weeks to yet another horrific, terrifying, disgusting, frightening subject. Seems to me that this one has not been contained because it is supposed to really, really sink in. We can’t tune it out, switch to another disaster then come back later when this disaster is over.

It has this in common with Katrina. It’s not going away. Not til everybody gets it, faces it, and is brought to their collective knees and begging for mercy. Maybe. . probably we won’t sink like Atlantis did because of our worship of technology. But the gods and goddesses will make darn sure we will all see how putting our ego needs before the concerns of our home planet can be a price too high to pay. They will make sure we don’t forget it for a long, long time.

I think will says it best. “Lashing out in bitterness, blame and sarcasm will probably not serve (us) very well or help this situation. We will solve this problem and stop this leak.”

I wished that Obama had had the feds take over this situation at the two week mark when it was obvious that BP couldn’t or wouldn’t fix the problem.

All Obama had to do was assemble some of the best petroleum and structural engineers from the globe and charged the bill to BP, but now it’s too late.

Hopefully with Uranus going into Aries for a brief period will give Obama the assertiveness he’s been sorely lacking even if it’s only for a couple of months before Uranus returns to Aries next spring.

FWIW, actually, he did assemble the best structural and petroleum engineers and the situation was unprecedented and dangerous.

I think it boils down to the pressure at that depth, where humans cannot go, but robots could. Apparently, not even the military had the technology to go that low at that pressure without crushing its vessels and machinery.

barb:

The blame is a vent for energy at this moment, because most feel helpless.

The Neptunian Chiron wound is probably the thing that an oil-addicted country and world needs to get off the stuff. Its like the las

We’ve so gotten used to petroleum, its become in my terms, the Religion of Oil. Maybe, like the Catholic Church and its problems, its run its course and needs to be replaced or restructured. The problem now and in the future is getting re-engineering entire societies and economies, including ours.

We know the end result - total reliance on sustainable renewable energy sources. Its towards that which will be our path. One foot in front of the other.

strike the unfinished sentence beginning with “its like the las” — incomplete thoughts.

Fe, you posted:

“FWIW, actually, he did assemble the best structural and petroleum engineers and the situation was unprecedented and dangerous.

I think it boils down to the pressure at that depth, where humans cannot go, but robots could. Apparently, not even the military had the technology to go that low at that pressure without crushing its vessels and machinery.”

Hear, hear. Right on.

If any of you have scuba-dove, you know how treacherous the pressure can be on the physical body as you descend just a fathom (two yards). The sinuses begin to ache, the fingers and toes get colder, the pressure on the alveoli- the grape-like sacs that hold air in the lungs - feels like something sitting on your chest. Most divers I know don’t venture down much farther than 30-40 feet as a rule. But even the pros rarely go beyond 200 feet with the most advanced equipment before it becomes impossible for the body to endure. People, we’re talking depths of over 5,000 feet where this well-pump blew. It takes all kinds of highly technical equipment and heavy-duty gear to move into place to address this. The logistics alone are staggering to the mind in terms of coordinating such a feat with rigs that are ten-to-twenty stories in vertical scale and thousands of square-feet in area. You have to know that this well took a long, long, long time to drill and even longer for the well to be properly fit with the necessary hardware at those depths. Once it was done, all of that heavy gear had to be moved out; it would be like choreographing a ballet performed by dinosaurs.

It is most unfortunate but important to realize that plugging this well is going to take some time. It is not POSSIBLE to do this overnight. My sense is that BP and no one else for that matter, truly realized the enormity of this incident for several days or weeks into it. The robotic apparatus that normally works for adjustments and regular maintenance is not strong enough to repair pipes near a well that has exploded and is spewing oil and gas underwater at such an enormous pressure.

You can be sure that BP doesn’t want this leak to continue one day longer than it has to out of purely greedy motives. You can be doubly sure that Team Obama doesn’t want this thing to go on for a minute longer than necessary; the political liabilities for them are obviously enormous.

It is a most unfortunate situation that will require a concerted effort to correct - and yes, irreparable harm and damage has already been done - but we have to move forward as a people and a nation and a race and be part of the solution.

I am not in a position to go to the Gulf and fill sand-bags or wash the oil off of wild-life. But I know that prayer and meditation and remote healing and prayer circles and group meditations can and do work miracles.

Everyone involved with this horrific incident is most-likely stressed-to-the-max. Throwing buckets of hate and blame and anger at them is probably not going to be helpful at all. Everyone is already demoralized and at their wits end.

Fe,

Re: narcosphere rant

Brilliant in fact and spirit.

Tragic as it is, I am feeling that this particular oil mess will eventually turn out to be the proverbial blessing in disguise - but for this, there was never any hope of persuading many in the US to get out from under the boot of the Boys of Big Oil. Mother Earth is grander than all of us, she has weathered catastrophes over the eons and evolved. We too will now more rapidly evolve to using less toxic energy - but “the gods” needed to give many people a big wake up call to make it happen. It’s now up to all of us to contribute to a new way of doing things - by our thoughts, by our actions, and by our innovations, in whatever way we can, through the ether, or in person.
We’ve all known there was/is a ’shift’ coming - maybe this is the fulcrum point, with the focus now not only on issues surrounding energy, but responsibilites of business versus government.

Fe,

Your 1:57PM comment. .. totally agree with you, and the Al Giordano “Yell louder. . ” article, was a gem. Thanks for linking. This is where I was about 3 weeks ago, followed by a long depression, aka grief. We have to go through all the stages of grief to get to a point where we can return to reality.

I spoke of the fixed sign folks, primarily Aquarians, and primarily my mom a while back on another site. It will be the fixed element in us that will get this hole in the ocean plugged. After that, the mutable people will show us the way out of this hell. Just in time for the cardinal folks to get us going on the new path.

Some thoughts during the last month included musings on what the effects of say an earthquake dropping California of the map, or a big terrorist assult in Tuscaloosa or an asteroid landing in Kansas and killing 500 people might cause us to think and feel. I’ve decided that perhaps Earth thought the best results would come from a disaster that would affect us all (Americans) and that would do more than just scare the piss out of us, and one which we would all, eventually, admit to ourselves that we were partly to blame. Mom knows best.

Thanks clymela for your marvelous memory and your very thoughtful words, and I wish I’d told you sooner!

starlight,

Just saw your remarks about the New Moon in Gemini conj the U.S. Mars and the prog U.S. Moon conj U.S. Neptune (& square its Mars).

I forgot to write that the following full moon in June that’s conj Pluto and aspects the U.S. Venus/Jupiter is also a lunar eclipse.

What a great time to be an astrologer, huh?

Great post, Will — well said.

The narcosphere rant was very good, too.

clymela and anyone curious about the Chiron contacts,

The earlier observations (A Harsh Spring thread) started Chiron’s relationship pattern in June so I would like to add that on May 29 Chiron will oppose Vesta (investment) right after she enters Virgo. I would not be surprised to hear news of financial losses for U.S. re: overseas (9th house) investments. On May 30 (or 31) Vesta will trine Ceres (in 1st house conj Pluto) so possibly the news not as bad as thought.

Something left off of the 5/20 response was the July 9 entry of Mercury into Leo and quincunx Chiron and then trine Uranus. Boy, I hope that means we hear something good (painful maybe but good!)

As far as the Boston Globe photos of the oil spill, they are amazing but heart-breaking — and I cried. It was the photos of the bottle-neck dolphins that really got to me. Someone in the comment thread made the point that oil is biodegradable and, within 10 years, the Gulf will be fine. Until then, it’s so hard to deal with - the innocent sea life, the hardworking fishermen, the marshes, and now there is less protection against storms. I know there will be solutions implemented; but until then, it is a really hard thing to watch happen. The consolation is that mankind does care and does band together to fight this.

In continuing upthread to catch up on my reading, I saw the Jean-Michel Costeau video posted by Pat C and he makes the point that the Exon Valez oil is still there, at the bottom of the ocean, 21 years later. He says that what’s been released thus far is equal to 7 or 8 Exon Valez spills already. There’s not much left to say but the Uranus/Jup conj. in Aries could break us some good surprises though - whether Kevin Cosner or others.

I have a question. How can they be taking what look like close up photos of that oil gushing out that hole and not be able to get much sturdier equipment to that depth? Aren’t cameras more fragile than a robot sub?

Shadowhawk:

It may be that camera is in pressurized casing to prevent it from crushing.

Will,
Thank you for that. Yes to all of it.

In particular, the greed alone would certainly have BP doing everything it knew to do to stop this mess. They’re losing potential profits from oil sales every minute the well keeps gushing. They’re adding to their cleanup and liabilities’ bill every moment it goes on.
We’re not depending on their good will or any desire to do the right thing. Simply their desire to make money would have them scrambling to fix this as soon as possible. We can trust their greed.
Does anyone really believe that if there’s a way to scoop up 85 percent of that oil, BP wouldn’t have done it already?
–Teresa

Shadowhawk,

I second what Fe proposes - about the encased cameras - and also that they probably have the zoom-lenz focused from a considerable distance from the high-pressure of that gusher.

Someone suggested I post my musings here to see what happens. So here goes.

Everyone is talking about meditating and sending love and positive thoughts toward the spill to help fix the damage. Won’t do that either. All lightworkers pitched in during the Exxon Valdez accident. It DID help ease things a tad but not in a good way. Since things were cleared up more easily and with less relative damage, that warning was more or less ignored. Oh yes, double hulls were instituted in most of the oil tankers but the dangers of spilling oil from whatever sources were brushed off. ‘See? Not all that much damage.’ It can’t be allowed to happen that way again.

Sometimes one has to stand back, grieve, and let it happen the way it will and this time it has to have a global effect. It goes against everything lightworkers are supposed to be striving for. Sometimes the New Age group doesn’t understand the meaning of total detachment which is the way the Universe operates. We as a people have been given all kinds of gifts and curses and tools and then the Universe/God/Goddesses stand back and watch what we do with those gifts/curses/tools. No judgments - just observations.

We humans are fouling our own nest and we have to learn to stop doing that - globally. As long as greed and power trips rule we’ll keep fouling the nest. So Mother Earth who is also being observed is taking matters into her own hands. With Uranus moving into Aries we are to start over. Birthing the new and birth is messy, painful and bloody. Usually something good comes out of birth and then there’s the raising of the child which is also often a trial. New Agers don’t like to hear that as a rule. Everything is supposed to be love, peace, doves and all that jazz. Ain’t happening this time.

All this carrying on is from the foot that’s in the other dimension. If you’ve ever read Carlos Castenada, you’ll recognize the phrase - ‘Death rides on my left shoulder’. It means - to me anyway - that one has to let go of preconceived notions of how things are supposed to work.

I refuse to watch any of the video on the spill because it makes me sick. Even though I know everything is going as it should, there’s a part of me that still gets outraged. All the animals suffering and dying is so difficult for my small self to handle. My soul self knows that some animals are due for extinction and are doing their thing in dying for the evolution of themselves and the planet but my ego self still gets very upset. It’s also going to force things to happen whether people are ready for it or not. Just like Katrina only worse and broader scope.

Our government still has a long way to go before it gets out from under the control of big business and these kinds of things are going to keep happening until it happens. The heavy planets are making their move, kicking the personal planets into action. I don’t know what the planets were like when the Roman empire crumbled but it’s something like that happening now. Evolution will happen regardless. How easy it will be depends on the people on the planet. I think it was NeoBuckeye who worded it beautifully a bit back.

Shadowhawk,
I’m with you. I fear this has to as bad as it takes to get us all to change, to take good care of the earth, to respect her, to live in harmony with her.

by Steve Benen

“* This better work: “The most critical moment in the oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico is at hand, as BP engineers armed with 50,000 pounds of dense mud and a fleet of robotic submarines are poised to attempt a “top kill” maneuver to plug the leaking well a mile below the surface.”

* President Obama will be back in Louisiana on Friday to assess the response to the BP oil spill disaster. In announcing the visit, the White House noted in a statement that the administration “has mobilized one of the largest responses to a catastrophic event in history, with more than 1,200 vessels in the region and more than 22,000 people, including many of the brightest scientific minds from both the public and private sector, working around the clock to mitigate the oil’s impact.”

* As far as the White House is concerned, there’s no doubt this is the worst oil spill in American history”.

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com /

barbk I totally agree with your thoughts of this as a lesson from Mother Earth. And as the gulf stream picks up the oil and carries it up the east coast and over to Europe it will be bringing it to some of the biggest guzzlers of the substance and to or near to where this all really started in the earlier days of the industrial age at the start of the last century.
If this spill is anywhere near as bad as some are saying it will change our world in ways perhaps worse than we can at all imagine. But we were all living in a way that invited this and we are all responsible (at least in the 1st world)

Cha,

What a love you are for posting one of the rare pieces of rational, sober pieces over the past several days.

I went out tonight for a long, long walk in the Santa Monica night air. A bright flash of light caught my eye in the midst of an indigo-ink colored sky and suddenly all of the doom-and-gloom, end-of-times, and a vindictive Mother Nature on the Warpath rhetoric made sense; the moon is waxing toward full in a few days.

Now it all makes sense.

La bella luna.

Shadowhawk: Many “new-agers” (myself included) understand the concept of things happening “for the highest good of all”. That doesn’t always (or even usually) mean “tra-la-la … all will be whole and perfect” - it means that there are lessons and gifts even in the crappiest of situations.

I know many who are working to visualize this “highest good” whatever that may be. I agree with many of the comments saying that something “good” will come from this, whether it’s that hardcore attention is (or will be) focused upon alternate forms of energy, breaking the grasp that big oil has over us or something yet unseen.

I trust with all my heart that this event, as awful as it is and will continue to be, will help elevate consciousness in ways we cannot begin to imagine. But yeah, it really hurts to see all the destruction. (I can’t even look at any of it because it just kills me.)

Will, are you beginning to feel the effects of the Jupiter and Uranus transits? …because I sense new & different things coming out of you. Same goes for the other 0-degree Ariens here — keep us posted as to the effects - it’s always interesting to hear immediate feedback on the planets in action.

…the concept of things happening “for the highest good of all”…. lessons & gifts are not aways learned or accepted and therefore

1. sometimes things happen for very stupid reasons
2. the end does not justify the means
3. randomness is beautiful

still, as I walk the shoreline various mantras of a healthly Gaia prevail and soothes my outrage of the gushing gash inflicted in the gulf - especially grateful for the clear ocean water underfoot

This is a very clear explanation of the changes to the economy that have been taking place and what it means. I think it is a must read.

Are you a ten dollar man? That’s what local blue-collar jobs are paying these days, $10 per hour, and that’s if you’re lucky. Many are paying minimum wage or a dollar over minimum wage and it is effectively a starvation wage, a plantation wage. If you work a forty-hour week, which many do not, you probably earn less than $80 per week in discretionary income, and that’s if you don’t own an automobile. If you do then you have zero discretionary income.

Zero discretionary income means that you are not a participant in the economy any more than slaves in Alabama were in the 1850s. You’re not just a wage slave, you’re a slave slave. The genius of the New Deal was not in just creating jobs; any idiot can create jobs, but the trick is in creating good jobs.

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner was quick to point out today that American exports to China have risen 50 percent this year. What Mr. Geithner is forgetting to mention, or just plain ignoring, is that all exports are not created equal. What China imports from the United States are raw materials and what it exports back to the US are finished goods.

We’re picking the cotton and they are selling us back the finished shirts. But it’s even worse than that because it’s not cotton, it’s coal that we are selling them, or what our government euphemistically calls “mineral fuels.” Coal companies earn huge profits but for the economy overall it is meaningless and for the environment disastrous.

Here is what you, the American workers, are expected to compete with on a heads-up basis. The average Chinese factory worker earns $292 monthly, and average wages for a Mexican factory worker are $401 per month. An economy that does not build things cannot grow. There is great profit in turning $400 worth of steel into a Chevrolet, but in a service economy where you wash my dog while I watch your kids, it’s a downward spiral without any growth potential.

Here is how free trade actually operates: Whirlpool Corporation shifted production from its Indiana factory to its new factory in Mexico in 2009 and eliminated 1,100 full time jobs. That means 1,100 Mexican workers will begin paying taxes and 1,100 Americans will cease paying taxes, but it also means 1,100 Americans are no longer a part of the economy.

Shadowhawk,

I so agree; thanks for sharing and giving us a new perspective. But those poor critters. Like you and MystalChick and all the others here that are sickened by the destruction, I can’t bear to watch it.

Pam, thanks for your response. You are probably right, worse than we can imagine.

will, I agree with Sharon, you sound a little different. . .a little Jupiterian in fact. I agree with you about Cha’s contribution too. We needed to be aware of the efforts of our government.

Connie, thanks for your comments; I envy you your clear ocean water underfoot!

Pat C, once again thanks for the link to this article and all the others yet to come. Our eyes to the world you are.

Oops, PatC, as usual, you’re waaayyyy ahead! Sorry ’bout the double post, but it really made sense.

To have 2 wars ongoing and Obama plans to go to Chicago and doesn’t have time to honor those of our veterans who have died to serve us is mindboggling (too bad they can’t “go home” for memorial day weekend):

Obama to skip Memorial day tradition
Posted: May 26, 2010 8:28 AM Updated: May 26, 2010 8:28 AM

WASHINGTON, DC (KSLA) – U.S. President Barack Obama, plans to skip a presidential tradition this Memorial day weekend for a trip back to Chicago.

Traditionally on Memorial day, the current President will lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

This year, our current president will head back home to Chicago for the weekend and plans to speak at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Chicago.

Vice President Joe Biden intends to take the President’s place at the Arlington Cemetery.

Obama is going to absolutely deserve every bit of opprobium he’s going to receive for his stupidity on this. What a schmuck.

Shadowhawk, I realy, really like and agree with your musings. So much so, that I can’t bring myself to pray that the latest attempt to cut off the flow from the well works. I’m afraid we need this excessive amount of devastation to come to our senses about the need to stop using fossil fuel for energy.

I have a very hard time when they show the pelicans, turtles, etc, on the news. My heart goes out to the families who depend upon fishing for their livelihood. What can or will they do?

My greatest fear is that there are some who still don’t get it. What will it take to awaken them?

Noelle - Some folk will take 2 or 3 more lifetimes to awaken. On this planet there are new souls, old souls and middle souls. All are here to evolve. Some evolve at a slower pace than others.

A lot of those who don’t want to participate in the present evolution will be leaving. Some of the very old souls who are incredibly tired from their struggle will be leaving.

Eventually, balance will be achieved and the planet will be healthy again. At the rate we’re going, that may take a while with a lot of destruction n the process.

It’s painful to watch but if we can just keep our own energies clean and loving in a neutral sense (not directed at any one thing in particular), then that energy will spread - slowly but surely. It’s just being a very slow process at the moment.

Think the 100th monkey.

Marta,

“Obama is going to absolutely deserve every bit of opprobium he’s going to receive for his stupidity on this. What a schmuck.”

Are the veterans of the wars who are laid to rest at The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Chicago somehow less heroic or had they served less than those buried at Arlington? Was their blood less brave, less red or less precious? Should President Obama be held in contempt because he chooses to honor fallen vets and stage the ceremony for doings so in an American city other than D.C.? What difference does it make if he chooses to honor the fallen in service in any other American city? Isn’t this the United States of America? Are the families who lost their loved ones in Chicago somehow less deserving of Presidential honor than those in D.C..

It seems as if you are hating just for the sake of hating. I find this post particularly undeserved, unfair and despicable. It appears you are on a hateful rampage toward this man for just about everything he does.

This post is particularly distasteful and mean-spirited. You should send it in as an audition piece for Fox News - they would love it.

Will, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

A Media Matters story countering the meme that no President has ever missed placing the Memorial Day wreath at Arlington:

http://mediamatters.org/blog/201005250034

The negative aspect of Uranus in Aries is possibly the development of new arms and methods of warfare. We could do without those innovations.

Marta,

You’re right. The real problem right now is that Obama is not laying a wreath in DC.

(I happen to think ending the war in Iraq is worth a zillion wreath-laying ceremonies, probably much more valuable to any soldier serving now than any wreath. But that’s just me.)

Threats to Obama’s life are up 300%. That’s a really awful thing. I’m actually glad he isn’t doing the ceremony. We don’t need that kind of trouble any more than he, himself does.

As for the difference in opinion about Obama and the hope or dashed hope of people who follow what is going on, I’m sympathetic to both those who hope and those who feel quite hopeless. He has done a lot in the first year of his Presidency, some progressive, some terribly compromised to the point of not being progressive at all, and some things that are exactly what Bush did. It’s just not easy to get comfortable. At least not for me. Starting with FISA, I have worried. I can’t help taking this one day at a time. I can’t help being confused about what is forming.

Thank you all for saying such glowing things about my posts. I hope to deserve all that praise. I really do thank you!

Teresa, I couldn’t agree with you more (and add Afganistan, Pakistan and anywhere else we’re sowing havoc to the list)!

Marta,

You’re right. The real problem right now is that Obama is not laying a wreath in DC.

(I happen to think ending the war in Iraq is worth a zillion wreath-laying ceremonies, probably much more valuable to any soldier serving now than any wreath. But that’s just me.)

Fealty to Folly: Oil Is Dead! Long Live Oil!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/martin-luz/fealty-to-folly-oil-is-de_b_569558.html

“….. Put on your Walkman headset and swing your Hoola-Hoop while you ask your Magic 8 Ball how to make all the problems with the oil economy magically disappear?”

What does it matter where a wreath is laid. The sad part is that one has to be laid at all. If anyone wants to lay a wreath to honor the dead, throw one in the Gulf!

Vice President Joe Biden is quite capable and an excellent representative of our country to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington..especially since his son Beau is a Capt in the Military..

http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/05/vice_president_joseph_bidens_s.html

“Right-wing media figures are suggesting that President Obama’s plan to participate in a Memorial Day event in Chicago and have Vice President Joe Biden lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery is unprecedented and a sign of disrespect to the military. In fact, both Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush had representatives lay wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.”

Bahamian Official: “Chances are” for oil to reach islands after late week change in weather

The Bahamas’ Chief Climatological Officer warned that oil may soon wash ashore on the island chain because of changing weather conditions in the Gulf of Mexico.

In a Tuesday interview with The Nassau Guardian, Michael Stubbs said, “As Friday approaches we see the weather pattern changing and what would happen then is the winds in the area would be flowing clockwise, making it possible for oil floating on the surface to make it to the notorious loop current. So once the particles move into the loop current the chances are for it to reach our area.”

The Guardian added, “Stubbs, who heads a meteorological task force set up by the Ingraham administration to monitor the oil spill, said once the surface winds shift, oil sediments will most likely reach the Cay Sal Bank, Bimini, and western Grand Bahama – key fishing areas for the marine industry.”

Pat C.,

It will be interesting to see if the Bahamanian, Jamaican, Mexican, Honduran, Venezuelan and French and Dutch country leaders will get as much involved and/or criticized in their handling of the BP Oil Disaster. All of those countries stand to take considerable losses and damages to their shores, fisheries and tourist resorts.

I hope they don’t sue will.

Change you can believe in:

William K Black on the financial reform bill backed by the administration:

http://therealnews.com/t2/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=31&Itemid=74&jumival=5161

I believe I recall that a major part of the funding for the last pres election for Obama came from Wall street.

Which is why we see a “dance with them who brung him”.

The problem is, it leaves the country with 13 trillion in debt and a 2 trillion expansion in the feds balance sheet and the money supply.

And the economy still a mess.

And according to Bill Black, this bill does nothing to prevent the same crisis occurring again.

Ok, well, now that I have pissed off all you Obama lovers (with the exception of Marta — the others such as Anne have been chased away) I provide a link to the historical reality of where we are.

Niall Ferguson is an economic historian… not a politician, nor does he take political positions.

Those that ignore the poetry of history (it rhymes, if not exactly repeats) tend to make the same mistakes over and over again. They can be quite expensive, personally and for society.

Here is Niall Ferguson on Financial History as it applies to us now. It is IMHO VERY worth watching. It may tell you where we are going, and what the “change” may involve. History has been here before. You can learn from it… perhaps for survival.

Sara is running for Senate in 2016! What are her chances?

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE64P72C20100526

Pat! Oh my gosh!

According to BBC News this evening:

‘President Obama by international law, CANNOT take control of stopping the BP leak.’

‘BP is the only source for the specific machinery and technology needed to stop this 5,000-feet-deep-well explosion.’

The officials at BP continue to be cautiously optimistic as they have been pumping “mud” into the blown well for several hours now in an attempt to plug the well and have not experienced a secondary explosion - which is its biggest concern. Each moment that passes that the mud continues to get pumped without an explosion gives increased hope that the mud is doing what it is supposed to be doing.

A bad thought crossed my mind this evening so I did a little research qnd found this http://geology.com/news/2006/09/gulf-of-mexico-earthquake-report-and.html

I thought about an earthquake because of what has happened elsewhere when stuff is pumped into the earth. Once upon a time the government (during the Reagan era) thought that pumping radioactive waste into the ground would be a good idea in both CO and WA. The viscosity wasn’t right and guess what happened - earthquakes.

Wouldn’t that just be icing on the cake to have a quake? Bad Snark

tim - Who is Sara?

So here’s my wonderful Uranian news. You know that new job I thought I’d landed at the electronics company? I got a phone call when I got home tonight from the temp agency that did the hiring, telling me that my last day was today and I don’t need to go in tomorrow. I guess that’s the downside of having Uranus and Jupiter conjoining on my natal sun! And I thought I’d finally found a way to keep from starving, and I’d be able to find my own place and pay some bills and pay back some people I owe, maybe even get my transits done.

I must have murdered a million fluffy kittens in front of an audience of kindergartners in a past life. Seriously. Somebody up there hates me.

{{{{Jackson}}}}

Jupiter is probably not in orb yet, so maybe it will still bring something good in the next week. We are all thinking of you here!!

Jackson - what a major bummer. At least you still have your sense of humor. Here’s where irritating people come up with those irritating trite phrases — “an opportunity to excel’; every cloud has a silver lining’; yada yada

Best of luck to you, man.

Jackson,

Immediately after I read your post last week, announcing that you had landed this job, I said out loud, in front of the computer screen, “This won’t last; something much better is in store for him.” Obviously I didn’t want to be Donny Downer, so I kept my hole shut. But I’m telling you, don’t worry. This wasn’t “the one.” My sense is that you are going to know when you make that Uranian/Jupiterian connection when you do - that it will be quite palpable.

Worry not.

Sara is a friend of mine, starlight.

She has some unusual ideas and would like to, at least, get into the media spotlight by running for the US Senate. She knows she wont win but she plans to start her long shot campaign next june!

Jackson, I truly believe something good is headed your way… just as I’m holding strongly to the belief that when Jupiter perfects the square to my husband’s ASC, that something will finally break loose for him in the way of a job. Don’t want to sound like Little Mary Sunshine here, but you’re in my thoughts, and I’m pulling for you.

Starlight - What a fantastic article on the Uranian energies and their implications for change!

A good time to get off the stimulants!
This cosmic brew will provide all the stimulation we can handle.

Well maybe just one more cup of coffee ‘fore I go.

I’m still in the grieving stage, barbk, but I’m so grateful for your words and Fe’s spark, and Clymela’s vision, and Will’s sanity…and, of course, Nancy’s guiding light. I’m pulling out of the doldrums as I make my ‘inventory’ of all petroleum based stuff surrounding me and search for alternatives. Whew. And I’m revving up the words in prep to promote the same to all I come in contact with. Watch out!

Meanwhile, I have a couple of things I’d like to present to this group. One is this excellent short post on TPM by a person who works in the oil industry in Houston, and is privy to the goings on at BP hdqtrs. It’s funny but I’ve been so curious about what is going on behind the scenes as I knew that much was bubbling under the surface…(hah). Here’s a tiny but fascinating glimpse.

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2010/05/critical_perspective.php#more?ref=fpblg

And second is a question. Do any of you ever look at your personal astrocartography in relation to these kinds of natural disasters? Is there any reason to? I did it first with the tsunami. I was so devastated by that event and couldn’t seem to shake it. I looked and my Sun/MC line was at zenith right exactly where the earth moved. Now I look at the Gulf and there are several minor lines running through the spill area…Mars, Chiron, Merc and Neptune. And then a Moon line runs closer to the part of the GOM where I grew up. Is it just because I lived on the gulf for all my growing up years that I grieve so? I don’t know. It doesn’t seem like others who grew up or now live in So. Tx are feeling the pain quite the same, so I wonder…

I’m sorry some of you find this a time to play out your Obama-hate addiction…it’s like doing such at a funeral. Very tacky.

Bush lied about his military service, and so did Reagan

Bush’s account of his Guard service and Reagan’s story of the Nazi death camp were huge lies — but never big news

Richard Blumenthal’s apparent misstatements about his military service — as reported so tendentiously in the New York Times — have delighted Republicans who once considered the Connecticut attorney general unbeatable in his state’s U.S. Senate race. Now that we know the videotape cited by the Times also includes Blumenthal accurately describing his service in the Marine Corps Reserve, their jubilation may be premature. Whatever the ultimate verdict on the Blumenthal story, however, it’s worth noting that he was hardly alone in misstating — or falsely recollecting — the facts about his stint in uniform. Leaving aside Lindsey Graham, who has puffed his “wartime” service for years, such mythmaking is indeed characteristic of the politicians most revered by the GOP.

Starlight, According to the Dell Horoscope Magazine, Uranus enters Aries at 8:50 PM, following the full moon @ 6:08 PM, EST; making those times, 9:50 ( Eric Francis has it at 9:44pm) & 7:08, EDT.
Astrodienst also has Uranus still 29o PISCES. I HOPE THAT DOESN’T MEAN THE PLUG BLOWS OPEN AGAIN TONIGHT!
Whatever………..Halleluja it is not spewing oil any more!

Pat - My source says 9:50 PM EDT, which would be 8:50 Central Daylight for Uranus moving into Aries. I am guardedly optimistic about that leak staying plugged. Now all hands will be focused on the clean up. Jupiter/Uranus will be within a one degree orb by Saturday (maybe late Friday). Optimism and ingenuity will prevail in the next week at least.

BP Wants Pet Judge to Adjudicate All Oil Spill Lawsuits

Experts believe that crimes have been committed by BP, Transocean and possibly Halliburton in the Gulf of Mexico. Criminal prosecutions could ensue under the Clean Water Act, 1918 Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the 1899 Rivers and Harbors Act, which would force escalating fines and blow past the current $75 million liability cap for damages.

But BP wants to consolidate all cases under one judge with a history of ties to the oil industry.

The Cult of Subprime Central Bankers

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/;kw=36899,157778?RS_show_page=0

The most successful of the reform gambits was probably the audit-the-Fed movement led by Sen. Bernie Sanders, the independent from Vermont. For nearly a century, the Federal Reserve has been, within our borders, a nation unto itself – with vast powers to shape the economy and no real limits to its authority beyond the president’s ability to appoint its chairman…suddenly, with both the Huffington Post crowd and the Tea Party raising their pitchforks in outrage, Sanders managed to pass – by a vote of 96-0 – an amendment to force the Fed to open its books to congressional scrutiny.

If Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke don’t take that 96-0 vote as a kick-to-the-groin testament to the staggering unpopularity of the Fed, they should. When 96 senators agree on something, they’re usually affirming their devotion to the flag or commemorating the death of Mother Teresa. But as it turns out, the more than $2 trillion in loans that the Fed handed out in secret after the 2008 meltdown is something that both the left and the right have no problem banding together to piss on.

One of the most bizarre alliances of the bailout era took place when Sanders, a democratic socialist, and Sen. Jim DeMint, a hardcore conservative from South Carolina, went on the CNBC show hosted by crazy supply-sider Larry Kudlow – and all three found themselves in complete agreement on the need to force Fed loans into the open. “People who come from very different places agree that it ought not to be done in secret, that the Fed isn’t Skull and Bones,” says Michael Briggs, an aide to Sanders.
Much, much more

One other thing happened in the 30s that has a parallel to today: the dust bowl was a major environmental disaster then just as the oil spill is shaping up to be for our time.

Pat C.,

Thank you for the additional RS link. Tabizzi’s article is terrific - a bitter-sweet summary. Great read.

shoalsister,

I’ve just come up for air after a frenetic search for my old Astrocartography map. . .empty handed. Your discovery of connections to previous disasters in your own “chart” inspired me on that mission. My new mission is to re-dedicate my life to putting my bedroom/office in order, which includes a lot of filing!

It was good to hear that your grief was not in vain and that a conscious effort to reduce the use of oil products and to raise the consciousness of others who have become dependent on these products will be a bi-product of your pain.

Will check out your talkingpointsmemo link and will also let you know if and when I ever find my map whether there is any correlation.

The Dreamer Awakens

Another event of historical proportions takes place on Thursday when, for the first time in 83 years, Uranus enters Aries, bringing us the first taste of what we can expect over the course of the next seven years. Uranus is the planet of awakenings, shocks, innovations, technologies, revolutions and rebellions. These symbolic qualities are then colored with the assertive, pioneering, impulsive and oftentimes violent nature of fiery Aries. On a personal level of expression we might experience rebellious attitudes, restless searching and accident-prone behaviors while this can also be a time of fierce individualism or radical changes in appearance. Collectively, this can be a time of liberating discoveries and sustainable energy innovations or it can be a time of mindless rebellion, armed insurrection and technological overload. I’m pulling for the more positive expressions, but it should be said that this is an extremely volatile planet-sign combination that has all the characteristics of a lit fuse.

To get some perspective on what we might be facing (by way of themes, not necessarily events), we only need to look at what transpired 1927-1934; most notably the Great Depression and the rise of Nazism. What transpires this time around depends on whether we allow ourselves to repeat the historical feedback loop or break into a new way of being human, turning our backs on violence and subjugation. It might also be during this seven-year transit that two distinct cultures will arise, but we’ll need to look at this possibility some other time.

Uranus’ current entrance into Aries is likely to be eventful, but short-lived after it retrogrades back into Pisces mid-August. From there it will simmer and stew until next March when it reenters Aries where it will remain until 2018.

It will take me all weekend to catch up on all the wonderful links…..Bless you all for your ability to be open minded, curious for truth, understanding and information.

Jackson….I subscribe to your blog, and though I don’t have time to comment, and what you are experiencing leaves me pretty much speechless….

My intuition tells me… to tell you to follow the blue butterfly’s….all opportunities and options are wide open….dream big….Luna

People are simply pussy-footing around the fact that we have such a corrupted government that the President cannot do anything except walk lamely onto the stage. That is what isn’t being said. Looking “between the lines” and listening at closed doors I guess the laws have been written so that our government is utterly ineffective and must wait for the oil companies to do things.
Can anyone refer me to information on the law passed in 1990 or an explanation of why the other day I came across a headline in Huffington Post saying that our resources are covered by international laws.

Thanks, Luna. I was on the phone with Pat just now, and she was reading me your post about the blue butterfly, and this woman walked into the coffeehouse where I sit, and she had a blue butterfly tattooed onto the inside of her elbow; I noticed that first, and then the fuchsia hair and all the other random tattoos and thought, well, I can’t take that following stuff literally, I guess.

I am thrashed. I’m on deadline with a story that will pay bupkes, for a magazine run by a friend. I can barely think or write. I am exhausted and throbbing with emotional pain — tsuris, is it called? My friend who recruited me to apply for the warehouse job — he works there — is on his way to meet me and take me to dinner and try to convince me to move in with him and his wife and kid in a suburb 25 miles northeast of downtown, and I fear that isolation would kill me. I’m on a rickety bicycle, with no car, no job and some prospects, and I think it would be better to stay downtown.

Actually, what I need to do is leave Sacramento. This place doesn’t seem to like me much. I need a fresh start or something. To stay here is to die, i think.

Thanks for the good thoughts, all. Uranus is at 29 Pisces 59′56 as I write this, and my Sun is at 00 Aries 40, and I have no idea if this Uranus station at 00 Aries 35 and Jupiter also conjoining my natal Sun will be a good thing or the transit that finally does me in.

Clymela,

I don’t know about a specific international law “covering” resources, but it would almost seem implausible for international law to not govern a leasing of American off-shore property by a British company. Contractual agreements like this between two different sovereign nations is the very stuff of international law. From what I understand, President Obama was legally enjoined for ‘taking control’ of BP’s efforts to stop the gushing oil well because the area drilled was under a lease agreement to a British concern.

And yes, Clymela, I agree that the level of corporate control/influence upon our government officials And laws is embarrassingly heavy - shall we say almost all-encompassing and crippling for “the World’s Greatest Democracy.”

It looks like DADT will pass the House just as Uranus hits 00Aries00. How fitting!!

Jackson, This might be the wrong thing to say to an independent Aries, but maybe you should bunk down at your friend’s house for a few nights and get some nurturing and support, maybe even some good home cooking…

Then, together with ole Jupiter-Uranus, you will be rested up, well-fed and able to create the stepping stones you need. I am a 0 Pisces sun with many planets in Pisces so Uranus has had its way with me, and mostly it’s been great, but when it crossed my sun, there seemed to be a lot of pressure in my life during those few weeks creating nervous tension but also, alternately, excitement, happiness, aliveness. There were definite endings and new beginnings in those days, and good came of it. You are going through the nervous tension part. Try, even for a short while, to let yourself let go, breath, give up the tension for now, and let God (I hope I don’t sound too patronizing).

Uranus is now at 0 Aries. Anyone feel the energy?

NEO - Well, the House passed the DADT amendment at 9:57. Uranus went into Aries at 9:50. I started some new exercises (Mars) late today to deal with some weak (Pisces) muscles. It is a start!!

With a cancer sun and ascendant I can def feel the change it energy

I actually met someone at 9.53 and we hit it off.

I have no idea if it’s any different. Maybe when Jupiter hits my Sun. And I’m house-sitting at a Buddhist chaplain friend’s place this weekend, so that should provide a decent respite.

Aries, Uranus and Revolution

It is the beginning of the new year in Aries and time to effect radical changes in our lives! In Pisces we cleared the decks of debri from the past year, now we are ready to invoke and draw down the forces of revolutionary Uranus, ruler of Aries.

In esoteric astrology there are three rulers given for each sign, which correspond to the personality, soul and spirit, or monad. The monadic or ‘hierarchical’ ruler is rarely discussed in these newsletters as most of us are flat-out just invoking soul - and dealing with its effects upon the unredeemed personality! Yet everyone has the capacity to intelligently invoke forces that are available when the Sun or any other planets are in a given sign; the times today urgently demand that we do so - and raise our game.

Uranus is the monadic ruler of Aries and is the essential fiery essence that impulses forth from this sign. Uranus is at once pure spirit and yet as ruler of the seventh ray of Ceremonial Magic, is able to anchor that spirit into matter. It is said that Uranus leads the soul to the final ‘burning ground’ where major testings for initiation are undergone. Uranus is the manifester who rules the Occult Way and is connected with the Hierophant of the Mysteries of Initiation.

Zea - I’ve heard the same version of that message several times now from several sources. Lovely coincidences?

My aunt of 67 died suddenly today, with no forewarning. Although she had epilepsy and muscular dystrophy for a at least the last 18 years or so, she was in no immediate peril. It was shocking and sudden, and I suppose in a spiritual way, liberating.

Starlight, I too started back on my 4 mile walks today.

Jackson, what a terrific place to center yourself for your Uranian/Jupiterian baptism by fire! Could it be any more appropriate?

I’m so sorry about your aunt, Will. I’m thinking of you.

And Jackson– I believe something really good is headed your way. I hope your weekend is restful. You’re in my thoughts, too.

Thanks B.A. for that link to Neil’s presentation about sovereign debt.

“Oil spill is plugged just as Uranus moves into Aries (1 minute shy). ”

Surprise!

“Although incident commander Adm. Thad Allen of the U.S. Coast Guard said Thursday morning that BP had temporarily stopped the flow of oil, the company’s chief operating officer later said petroleum was still flowing.”

“BP had said Wednesday that it would know within 24 hours whether the effort was successful”

(48 hrs. out from that statement)

“BP has observed “large amounts” of mud escaping out of the riser pipe. Although the company had ceased pumping Thursday, mud could be seen shooting out of four holes in the riser pipe on the live video captured by undersea cameras and posted on BP’s website. Pressure from the well was pushing the mud out, Suttles said.

Mud traveling through the riser pipe instead of into the well is a concern not only for the success of the top kill procedure, but also because the mud, which contains solid materials, could erode the pipe, causing more leaks.

Suttles said there is no indication that has happened.”

– independent observers of live video feed are seeing new plumes from holes.

“If the effort succeeds, BP will follow the top kill with cement to seal the well. If it is not successful, BP will immediately try to contain the flow using a cap and suction tube, while it readies another attempt at stopping the flow.”

– that’s an awful lot of ‘ifs’

I think it is important to remember that the Deepwater Horizon site represents, at the time of it’s drilling, a new “record” in terms of depth for oil recovery — it was the first 5,000′ deep well. Oil deposit is at 14,000′ — at pressures way beyond anything we have dealt with before.

Expect the unexpected, we’re in ‘Uncharted Territory.’

Hey Jackson…I think the image I got of little blue butterfly’s can be literal in some ways….little messages from nature that your higher self is at work, and leading the way. How big is the Deepwater Oil Spill?

http://paulrademacher.com/oilspill/#

On April 20th, an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon left 17 workers injured and 11 missing and presumed dead. Oil is spilling from a well 5000 feet below sea level, discharging 200,000 gallons of crude oil a day according to the official estimate. It is estimated that more than 6 million gallons of crude oil have spewed into the Gulf so far.

But how big is the spill, really? It’s hard to get a sense of the true size when it’s over the ocean floor. Use the links below to see how large the spill is, as of May 21.

BP wants us to foot the bill for the cleanup (they’ll be responsible for $75 million under current law). Can you imagine? They’ve wrecked the economy of how many gulf states and put countless families out on the street and WE’re supposed to pay for it?

http://action.firedoglake.com/page/s/nobpcap?source=semail52710&subsource=box

Marta, nothing new about the corporate goal in the game: PUBLIC PAYS FOR PRIVATE PROFITS

Hopefully the Aries Uranus territory is the game changer .

Anyone see any new news about Costner’s centrifuge?

Just can’t take all of the sunshine and optimism.

The 75M “ceiling” on BP’s financial obligation was litigated against from the first week. They’ll pay BILLIONS.

Try to be hopeful and positive about something.

Will, I’m sorry about your aunt. Good luck on your new exercise regime.

PS litigation is now law.

sorry, meant litigation is NOT law.

and I’m hopeful and positive about a lot of things, BP not being one of them. Does that mean I’m confused? Or realistic? Nevermind. To each his own. Sorry my outrage about the gulf oil spill bothers you.

Its the endless stream of unfair and unfounded assumptions and accusations and the constant focus on bleakness and all things dark and hellish that is so very, very unbecoming and unhelpful in the face of our collective sea of trouble.

You are either part of the problem or part of the solution.

Accentuate the positive.

Well, I guess it’s all that plutonian energy. Ya gotta look at the shit before you can figure out how to fix it. It’s like finally seeing your shadow side. Until you recognize it, you only project it on to others and can never heal.

Some how I’ve become a lightning rod for you, Will. I’m not your enemy, so peace. PatC (and others) post all kinds of informative posts that deal with the terrible issues we’re facing. I don’t see you casting her (or them) as being negative and unhelpful and unbecoming. Or telling them they need to accentuate the positive. That might be sort of patronizing. So, look to yourself, not me.

As of this AM:

HOUSTON — By injecting solid objects as well as heavy drilling fluid into the stricken well leaking oil into the Gulf of Mexico overnight, engineers appeared to have
stemmed the flow of oil, , Adm. Thad W. Allen of the Coast Guard, the leader of the government effort, said on Friday morning. But he stressed that the next 12 to
18 hours will be “very critical” in permanently stanching what is already the worst oil spill in United States history.

Admiral Allen, who spoke on ABC’s Good Morning America, said the biggest challenge will be to sustain the “top kill” effort, which involves pumping material into the
well to counteract the upward pressure of the gushing oil so that the well can be sealed.“They’ve been able to push the hydrocarbons and the oil down with the mud,”
he said, referring to the heavy drilling fluid. “The real challenge is to put enough mud into the well to keep the pressure where they can put a cement plug over the top.”

The top kill effort has proceeded in fits and starts. BP officials, who along with government officials created the impression early on Thursday that the strategy was working,
disclosed later that they had stopped pumping the night before when engineers saw that too much of the drilling fluid was escaping along with the oil.

And let us not forget that Uranus is square to Pakistan’s Mars at 00Cancer10 (natally conjunct Uranus at 25 Gemini). All hell is now breaking loose there, which I expect to get very intense over the next 10 days with the Jupiter/Uranus conjunction, and especially when Mars is quincunx that conjunction on June 6 and 7.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/south_asia/10181380.stm

Gunmen have launched simultaneous attacks on two mosques of the minority Ahmadi Islamic sect in Lahore, killing some 70 people, Pakistani police say.

The death toll has been rising as rescuers pull bodies from the mosques, which were packed for Friday midday prayers at the time of the attacks.

Police say they have secured both buildings, but they are still searching for militants who fled the scene.

Lahore has been the scene of a string of brazen militant attacks.

No-one has yet said they carried out the attacks but suspicion has fallen on the Pakistani Taliban, Ali Dayan Hassan of Human Rights Watch told the BBC.

And India, whose Mars is 00Cancer 34, is also being impacted, although Mars is not conjunct the MC in that chart.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/may/28/dozens-killed-indian-train-bomb

Scores of people died and 200 were injured when suspected Maoist rebels derailed an overnight passenger train, in north-east India, throwing it into the path of an oncoming goods train.

Rescue workers are working desperately to free hundreds of passengers from the twisted wreckage of the Gyaneshwar Express which collided with the goods train 80 miles south-west of Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state. Railway minister Mamata Banerjee today said the timing and nature of the attack pointed to “a Maoist hand”.

Marta - I was hoping that Uranus in Aries would at least bring the beginning of the next part of the crisis, the cleanup, and perhaps bring some new high tech things that would help, like Costner’s gear, etc.

Starlight, any insight for Nepal?

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/28/world/asia/28nepal.html?scp=2&sq=nepal&st=cse

I continue to think Harry Reid will win his reelection. He will start to really rise in the polls in September.

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2010/05/reid-neck-and-neck-with-gop-challengers/57395

Connie - I have no idea. I have never looked into Nepal.

Starlight, From your lips to God’s ears! I’m sure that your wish will come true. It has to because the disaster is so “in your face” that it will awaken many, many, many to the ecological (and other) disasters that have been swept under the carpet for so many years.

That’s why I’m so appreciative of PatC’s posts and your astro insights. The more we know, the better to protect and defend ourselves from the ravagers and become more respectful and attuned to our Great Mother and open our minds and hearts to other possibilities. Possibilities that don’t entail killing everything in sight for profit.

We will ALL have to change, and it appears we’ll be getting some astro help through Aries and Uranus. This deal of passing the buck onto the least responsible will stop because, in the end, there are more of us than them. And if we get mad enough (and given Starlight’s astute reading of the astro signs for the foreseeable future, do any of us doubt it?????), we, the people, will effect the change that is needed.

Marta - In the short run, with Jupiter moving to conjunct Uranus and Venus on the US Sun Sunday, I think they will declare the hole plugged. The Jupiter station square US Venus for all of July is also a good sign.

In the long run, the Uranus/Pluto square in exact aspect to US Sun around 2014 suggests enormous rebellion and some kind of radical changes brewing. I hope it will include some major breakups of monopolies and changes in the status quo regarding corporations, but anything is possible and it is likely to be a wild ride. One (bad) thought I had was that it could mark the end of the dominance of the US dollar. The 8th house US Sun could be seen as symbolic of the dollar. Uranus could bring a big sudden transformation, Pluto a big power struggle and slow metamorphosis. I suppose it could also be an unexpected resurgence, but I am only speculating at this point on anything that far in advance. It will help a lot that Jupiter will be crossing the US Sun three times around the same period.

Starlight, I hate to say it, but the demise of the dollar might be a blessing in disguise (painful as it would be for all of us). We would be forced to change our ways and implement new ways of living with creative ingenuity. It won’t be easy. But, good things never are. Maybe that Jupiter crossing the US sun will be the “great illumination”. Creation from destruction.

Marta - In the short run, with Jupiter moving to conjunct Uranus and Venus on the US Sun Sunday, I think they will declare the hole plugged. The Jupiter station square US Venus for all of July is also a good sign.

Huh?!? Will and I share the same Sun as the US?

Actually, Jupiter on the US Sun could spell trouble. It was stationary there (along with a Pluto quincunx) after 9/11 when we were on our way to “kick ass” in Afghanistan and everyone was wearing American flag pins. So it can represent a huge wave of patriotism following an attack. And Pluto will be in opposition during this upcoming transit. Jupiter was also opposite US Sun during the Summer Olympics a couple of years back when that swimmer won 5 or 6 golds for the US. Another boost of patriotism, though without the Pluto supercharger. The only thing I know is that 2014 will be a year for the history books. I am looking forward to 2015 when it is done. :-)

Don’t you mean Jupiter (in Aries) will be square the U.S. Sun in Cancer?

Starlight - understandable that you haven’t looked at Nepal, so many charts so little time; so many places in upheaval. And our Caribbean neighbor Jamaica is under siege.

On the home front – your Reid prediction is a ray of hope. And hopefully, in 2014 we still have Pres Obama in the WH.

Another interpretation of Uranus in Aries by Ed Tamplin

Riding the Rapids

We are entering one of the most astrologically active periods that we will witness for the whole century. Not until the beginning of 2080 do we have such dynamism in the solar system. This is a time of great shifts, witnessed through the Earth itself via climate change and increasing earthquakes, to social and economic reformation throughout Europe and the USA. There are political power shifts accompanying the financial pendulum. Moving investor debt sideways to sovereign debt is a gamble that could destabilize national unity in some countries and still have market repercussions. The action may be well under way by the June 26 Grand Cross lunar eclipse and appears to climax during August, certainly where the USA is concerned. This column is about making sense of that change.

Marta-just want to echo your praise of Starlight and Patc. PatC has become more reliable than Huffington Post bringing information from all manner of sources and she keeps me open to all types of outlooks knowing that love quides her searches.
Starlight is my mundane astrologer. Only once has she seemed to be wrong and that was because whe obviously didn’t have the correct birth data.

Starlight- I am thinking too that Reid will win the election. The Republicans and the Tea Party people are not looking too good in the light of day (forgive the cliche).
Jackson-any hope of getting some help to get out of Sacramento? I had to do that in my life more than once and in my experience I still believe my “gut” that told me it was time to leave.

Will, all I can say is, “thsnk you”.. Perfect.

“Are the veterans of the wars who are laid to rest at The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Chicago somehow less heroic or had they served less than those buried at Arlington? Was their blood less brave, less red or less precious? Should President Obama be held in contempt because he chooses to honor fallen vets and stage the ceremony for doings so in an American city other than D.C.? What difference does it make if he chooses to honor the fallen in service in any other American city? Isn’t this the United States of America? Are the families who lost their loved ones in Chicago somehow less deserving of Presidential honor than those in D.C..”

The following little tidbit on NPR this morning really triggered a series of questions involving mineral rights.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127231567

I’m guessing that very few landowners actually possess mineral rights. Perhaps those who have inherited property. Given that, who then profits from the minerals beneath you? I speculate that some of the biggest corporations in the world own them. It begs an investigation by the likes of Matt Taibbi, or someone who can figuratively dig up the dirt.

Just recently a landowner in Tennesse lost a years-long battle fighting interests who wanted to the rock on their property. The corporation that won the suit claimed that the rock was a mineral. The court agreed.

Hopefully, the rebellion your seeing in 2014, Nancy, will be directly related to unseating, and dismantling those coporations whose interests are inhuman and inhumane (not to mention all the other species being persecuted).

Jackson-any hope of getting some help to get out of Sacramento? I had to do that in my life more than once and in my experience I still believe my “gut” that told me it was time to leave.

Clymela, I don’t know. At this point, I’m just slogging through the days. I really, really feel like giving up. This last knock back into the ditch really hurt me badly.

Jackson - Jupiter will be conjunct Uranus in the coming week, it will be stationary square to US Venus in July, and it will conjunct the US Sun while Pluto is opposed and Uranus is square in 2014.

Venus will conjunct the US Sun this Sunday.

Marta,

Loved the “Moonwalking Manakin Bird.”

That’s the ticket!

Jackson,

The Universe obviously has something much more appropriate in store for you. Mourn if you must, but be open to some amazing possibilities.

I have been embroiled in legal issues over the past several months which have been particularly taxing, nay, galling. Today everything in court seemed to look up in a very big way. It smells like a victory before July 12th and it has definitely put a spring in my step.

Entertain possibilities. Next week should be quite a turn-a-round in many ways.

Will, glad you liked it … I can’t help but watch it every couple of days … gives me a big fat ‘ol smile every time!

Jackson, please don’t lose hope. Take deep breaths and know that the reason “this” didn’t work out is because, as Will so presciently says, “that” (whatever it may turn out to be) is what’s really in the works for you and will be to fulfill your “highest good”.

BTW, I’ve always found that whenever I’m really stuck and nothing is working out, the only way to open a new door into future possibilities is to go in a direction that you’ve never been in, a new environment, a new, different something. Even something as mundane as making yourself go to an event that you’ve always been curious about, but maybe didn’t have the confidence to go to before, for example.

It’s the willingness to s-t-r-e-c-h that seems to unblock things (at least for me).

Maybe you should take your friends up on their kind offer and at least go stay with them a few days to rest and recharge. You never know …..

In the meantime, while you’re mulling it over … Go watch my bird. He’ll cheer you up! I guarantee it! Just ask Will!

Will, great news on your legal battle. Yikes.

Jackson-the only giving up that works is the “giving it up” to god and then letting that voice take over. No! No! this has been too long and stark for you to want to “give up” in the usual meaning of those words. I mean good god what a Greek tale:just to say that I feel that the Power Bigger Than We wants your full attention. Really. This cannot be wasted on the fishes this is for the myths the stories we read that give us courage.

I’ve just noticed Obama has Juno at 0degree Aries, which means Uranus is now conjunct. What might that mean?

These right wingers are really something. They hate gays (freak out over DADT repeal); they hate Muslims (freak out over mosque near ground zero); they hate Hispanics (freak out over immigration); and they hate blacks (freak out over Obama being president). All their hyperventilating is getting really tedious.

If Debra Winger the actress is right, does that make her a right-winger?

I am sorry I can freak out about such a comment, sorry Nancy this is below you.

OMG, Will..Is this the kind of snark we can expect from your 00 Aries conjunction! :-)
(((((((((((((((((((Jackson)))))))))))))))))))))
DO NOT GIVE UP.
FROM ONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THE UPS & DOWNS OF THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE, THE CYCLES OF LIFE.

In her opening remark starlight says: “In an individuals birth chart, the location of Uranus represents the area in which a person will be unique and creative, often in a way that is counter to societal norms.” In the chart for the moment Uranus entered Aries this past Thursday there are 4 oppositions that include 9 of the major planets and 10 if you count Chiron.. . . .
Sun opposite Moon
Venus (conj south node) opposite Pluto
Mars opposite Neptune (and Chiron)
Saturn opposite Jupiter (and Uranus)

This alone is unique and leaves Mercury the only planet free of confrontation. In that “Uranus” chart set for my hometown, Mercury is in the 5th house of creativity and childhood. Mercury is in Taurus and that is reality. Mercury is also trine the north node in Capricorn, so sextile the south node in Cancer and therefore sextile Venus. What an opportunity!

In a series of remarkable hints and intuitions, I’ve been brought back to some childhood memories, followed by recollections of being pregnant. It occurred to me that if the Uranus into Aries chart were looked at as an ovulation (for the ladies) or a seed (for the gents), then why not the conjunction of Uranus by Jupiter be thought of as the fertilization moment?

Ironically, 9 months after the Uranus/Jupiter conjunction, is when Uranus will return to 0 Aries. Hmmmmm………might not this be a perfect time to contemplate the reality of the “birth” of something “unique and creative”, something that could solve a lot of problems; yours and mine and maybe even this country’s?

Like any anxious mother-to-be, I wanted to know ahead of time . . .boy? girl? I looked at the chart for March 11, 2011 at 7:53 PM when Uranus would leave Pisces for good and start the Aries transit. The Sun was in Pisces, the Moon was in Gemini trine Venus. . . .how lovely!

If you would like to escape for a little creative planning, Uranus was conjunct 0 Aries at 9:50 PM EDT on Thursday, May 27. Look at that chart for your hometown. Maybe even look to see what Jupiter will bring to the creative process as he enters Aries himself on June 8 at 7:25 AM EDT. Where’s the harm?

barb:

Sounds like your home town should have some sort of festival - do something sustainable–maybe even a home-grown foods fest with music and children’s activities.

Make sure everything there has been grown and raised there or no further than 50-100 miles out. It would be fun celebrating an end to one aspect of oil and beginning another that’s less dependent on it.

BP’s experiments with truth (several good articles analyzing the BP situation). Very good.

Haha! I too am feeling particularly impatient with the backwardness of it all. I usually let stuff overheard (not spoken directly to me) pass. But I was getting a haircut the other day and therefore was a captive audience to the rantings of the fellow sitting next to me, a late middle-aged guy who was clearly repeating junk he’d heard from some rightwing pundit.
Stupid statements like, “Europe is communist”. After trying not to listen for what seemed an eternity, something in me just snapped. I stood up mid-cut, walked over to him and engaged in a kind of ‘fact check’ conversation, and almost immediately regretted it. This kind of person feels powerless to begin with and probably disenfranchised, insecure and fear oriented, and my response likely just reinforced all that while having absolutely no impact on changing it. What was really surprising to me is how strongly my feelings of frustration and impatience with it were, and how short my fuse. Then I remembered the transits and thought that perhaps I was not alone!
And apparently I’m not…lol!
This allegiance to the pundit poison has always bothered me, but I guess I’m not as good at being a passivist about it as I used to be. Maybe if I responded instead to the feelings of fear and anxiety that I know are underneath it, rather than taking it all at face value. I’ll need to keep working on that because ultimately it’s not satisfying to just lash out without hope that the actions will be constructive.

barbk - I love that comparison to inception and birth. Beautiful!

Thank you , cha and zea - I think something in me just snapped, too. It was a bunch of articles, back to back, each article about one of the subjects I mentioned above and the resulting right wing poutrage about the issue. In each case, a ridiculous fury about some “other” that supposedly “threatened’ them.

Someone over at DU wrote a thread that says (paraphrasing) “we are being poisoned by something noxious that is spewing forth”, and what he meant was the ravings of right wing punditry and politicians (not the oil spill). Indeed!!

rea/starlight - Since I know these idiots are out there and spewing their own brand of poison, I avoid listening to the news other than an occasional headline at HP or here. If I’m in company where I just can’t walk away, I change the subject - constantly if need be.

I refuse to fall prey to the fear culture that is permeating everything these days. I’ve canceled my magazine subscriptions that run more pharma ads than they do articles. That leaves me with NO magazine subscriptions, btw.

Indeed. Although I’m feeling my own pool of magma rising to the surface…look out!!!

I think rather than denying our Aries energy and trying to invoke Pisces instead, it might be more helpful to review how we define and use our martian instincts and raise its vibration.
How can we better balance and integrate our masculine energies so that our actions are ultimately constructive. And that is related to how well we have integrated the feminine.
What is a warrior? What actions are ego driven, cloaked in righteousness? Perhaps we should all take a class in the martial arts.

rea - been there, done that. Sorry to say that getting angry only feeds their negativity and righteousness. You can actually see it grow as you get angrier. It’s better to take the wind out of their sails by ignoring them. Then they get pissed and splutter a lot. A friend of mine once cooled down an idiot by saying “I’m sorry - - you’re such an idiot’ and walking away. It made the others in the room laugh and deflated the fool.

kiwijeanie,

My feeling about Pres. Obama’s Juno being transited by Uranus at 0 Aries is that he is being influenced, more than usual (and shockingly so), to stand up for the rights of those Americans who have been ravaged by the negligence of the companies who are responsible for the Gulf catastrophe.

As I’ve said before, Juno is a spokesperson for the disenfranchised; she represents equality in relationship, especially in a marriage or any contract between two or more parties. The President’s Juno is in his 2nd house, so he values fairness personally.

He may experience Juno through another person or persons, like his wife Michelle, who has trans. Chiron conjunct her Venus and possibly her Moon also. Natal Cancer Venus is square Juno in his chart so obviously, there is a little conflict of values, but his Leo Mercury in the 6th house promises to speak out dramatically regarding the need to help these beleaguered people. Hopefully, Jupiter conjoining Uranus soon will lift their spirits in a tangible way!

starlight and others, perhaps I’m just in a semi-parantal mode these days but don’t the right-wingers remind you of 2-year olds? wa wa wa, I want my way and I want it now and I don’t care about your stupid logic. Maybe some of them will be feeling growing pains soon, but not a moment TOO soon!

zea, thank you from the heart for your kind words.
Fe, what a great suggestion; I’ll see what I can do!

‘Top kill’ fails to halt oil leak in gulf

So, how much longer must the earth continue to bleed from this calamity in the Gulf?

Stunning, Deborah. I am praying.

House Drops COBRA Extension, Democrats Cede Moral High Ground on Health Care

snip

The House of Representatives passed a jobs bill shorn of multiple stimulative efforts today, barely getting enough votes from Blue Dogs more concerned about short-term deficits and political considerations than public health. In order to ensure passage, House Democrats took out an extension of the 65% COBRA study and funding for the states for Medicaid. Progressive Democrats tried to object to the rule bringing the bill to the floor, but their protest fell just short, with 36 Democrats opposing.

More at the link….

Deborah - the pressure that gushing oil is under is phenomenal and what they’ve accomplished so far is like putting a wad of gum on a crack in the Hoover dam. I heard mention somewhere yesterday that the mud being forced into the leak was at the equivalent of 10,000 per sq inch and the oil was pushing it right back out. That oil could very well leak until that ‘pocket’ of oil runs dry at which point it could just dry up or it could cave in or the suction could pull in magma from deeper within the earth. The ‘beginning’ of the well at 5,000 feet is just the tip of the well. It goes much, much deeper than that. I can’t find a link but the well has to go much deeper than the 5,000 top of the well. Think of a well on the surface of a meadow and how deep down they drill to actually hit oil - or water for that matter.

I think Rea has something there. There is a right way, time and place to be assertive. In fact, a la Ecclesiastes, King Solomon, there is a time for everything. That’s why we have these various characteristics. And saying, “I’m sorry you’re such an idiot” can be a perfectly appropriate and assertive way to go. The way I understand the martial arts - they are about strength and control and the judgment to know when to use them - never frivilously.

Excuse me, I meant “Zea”

barbk, thank you so much for elaborating on the influences surrounding Juno. It is much appreciated.

In his annual report for 2010, Richard Nolle talks about another aspect of this social/political/cultural ‘Renaissance’ that is upon us in the Jupiter/Saturn cycle which has only recently moved from the earth sign cycle to air. This is just a brief excerpt, but the whole piece is worth a read:

The trend away from physicality (the earth element) into virtuality (the air element) is key here. The old physical, brick and mortar institutions of the earth sign Chronocrator era are metamorphosing from pubs and coffee shops to chat rooms and social networks, from books to e-books and e-readers like Kindle, from shops and malls to Amazon and eBay, from factories to service centers. Similarly, energy production is moving from fossil fuels and chemistry - how earth sign can you get? – to renewables and physics. Solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear fission and fusion and hydropower (including tidal generation) are the energy sources of the next hundred years. Nanotechnology, genetic engineering, biotech and quantum mechanics are the manufacturing processes of the air sign Chronocrator era. They’ll engender a new economic and social infrastructure as they develop, beginning in the 2020s.

The 2010-2011 Jupiter-Uranus conjunctions – at 0° 17’ Aries on June 8 and 28° 42’ Pisces on September 19 this year, and 27° 02’ Pisces in 2011 – are pointers to scientific and technological breakthroughs that will be important in shaping the new industries of the air sign Chronocrator century. (These will be precursors, not full-blown commercial developments – much like the telephone or light bulb in the 1870s, or the transistor in the 1940s.)

The economic dislocation rampant since the 1980s isn’t just the bursting of one bubble after another seemingly ad infinitum – although that’s certainly an accurate description of affairs. More importantly, it’s happening because the earth sign system has broken down to the point that it can only generate growth through bubbles. Look back on the last 30 years or so of history, from one real estate bubble to the next, through the dot-com bubble, the currency speculation bubbles. They all collapsed because they had to, because there’s no productive substantial reality underlying them. (Take the residential real estate bubble, for example: unlike the family farm which most people called home prior to the Industrial Revolution, there’s no productive value in a home.) The Industrial Revolution and finance capitalism are a race to the bottom of human prosperity, in which even the big winners are wiped out over time because the bursting bubbles take everything down with them. Hence the Western aphorism, “shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves in three generations”; or as it’s said in Asia, “rice paddy to rice paddy in three generations”.

Of course, the bubble pops long before infinity is reached, as it must. That’s when the politicians and central bankers put their heads together and try to patch up the system that keeps things running. They don’t want a real fix, mind you, because that would tie their hands. Who wants real money, when you can get away with ginning up the fake stuff? So they fix things the Keynesian way, inflating their way to prosperity – or rather, inflating their way to the next bubble, because inflation doesn’t create wealth, it destroys it. This time around, that’s where the Jupiter-Saturn opposition comes in.

Zea,

I’ve recently become very tired of all the BS, too!

And not just from the RW pundits, but general all around half-truths.

So, I’ve called upon my dry wit and honest humor to inject a bit of realism. When I do that, I can pull it off.

I’ve also been relying on a skill I learned from a past NC girlfriend: “Kill ‘em with kindness.”

Deepwater Horizon:

failed top kill is on CNN this morning. I was expecting this.

The oil is at 14,000 ft. below sea-bed, so that’s 19,000 ft. of atmospheric pressure at 14.5 lb/sq. ft. (I’m not doing the math!) — this excludes the earth’s pressures. Don’t know how to measure that.

The real reason the top kill failed is due to off gassing of methane, in addition to oil pressure.

The failure of top kill was predicted last Mon. on the Monkeyfister blog (see way above) after a huge, unreported methane explosion.

Let’s remember who we’re dealing with here, a corporate “drug” pusher.

I have a friend who’s a hydrologist and works for an environmental clean-up co. They are on stand by to head down for wetland clean up.

His take is that all the effort to stop the leak is just smoke and mirrors. The only way to relieve the pressure is to drill another well down to the main oil reserve and begin pumping.

BP said right at the beginning that this may be the only viable option, and will take at least until Aug.

My friend also said he didn’t understand why they are using so mush dispersant so deep. It cause the oil to become neutrally buoyant and remain suspended. He said it would be more effective to allow the oil to come to the surface before treating, as it breaks down much more quickly and effectively on the surface with the influence of sunlight. At the surface, the oxygen robbing effects of the dispersant are also minimized.

Currently, a huge underwater plume is headed through a deep canyon that feeds a current to the keys. This area is a critical fish nursery that is going to have it’s oxygen levels negatively impacted.

I REALLY appreciated the comment above that link’s this disaster to Chiron’s open self-inflicted wound.

I’m not so sure a quick resolution to this horror is in our collective best interest.

We can all predict what will happen in the future if this gets swept under the rug and basically forgotten (as in Exxon Valdez, which, I’ve learned, probably leaked more like 35,000,000 gallons of oil).

Well done, you ranked in the top 50 Best Astrology Blogs for the month.

Re: Embracing the status quo

Our earnings are robust, our compensation has returned to its naturally high levels and, as a result, we have very nearly regained our grip on the imaginations of the most ambitious students at the finest universities — and from that single fact many desirable outcomes follow.

Thus, we have almost fully recovered from what we have agreed to call The Great Misfortune. In the next few weeks, however, ill-informed senators will meet with ill-paid representatives to reconcile their ill-conceived financial reform bills. This process cannot and should not be stopped. The American people require at least the illusion of change. But it can be rendered harmless to our interests.

I’m sorry to post this, it makes me so sad. By Susan Shaw, a marine toxicologist.

FOR the last few days, attention has understandably been directed at the shores of the Gulf Coast as oil has started to wash up on beaches and in marshes. But last week I had the chance to see the effects of the spill from another perspective — when I dived into the oil slick a few miles off the Pass a Loutre wetlands in southern Louisiana. What I witnessed was a surreal, sickening scene beyond anything I could have imagined.

As the boat entered the slick, I had to cover my nose to block the fumes. There were patches of oil on the gulf’s surface. In some places, the oil has mixed with an orange-brown pudding-like material, some of the 700,000 gallons of a chemical dispersant called Corexit 9500 that BP has sprayed on the spreading oil. Near Rig No. 313, technically a restricted zone, the boat stopped and I (wearing a wetsuit, with Vaseline covering exposed skin) jumped in.

tetramorph - thank you for those depths and pressures. That’s what I was looking for and couldn’t find.

tetramorph - yes, thanks for the info which helps our understanding.

I unfortunately have to agree that the worse this is the more it is the kiss of death for the oil industry and the only way to make people accept alternative fuels. Talk about hitting people over the head with a hammer…

tetramorph - I do not know how to calculate pressure either, but 14,000 feet equals 2.65 miles to help me understand (sort of) the extent of the drilling.)

Has anyone astrologically looked at BP as to their future?

On land, a similar deep drilling occurs that provides access to previously unreachable resources. Drilling technology has advanced in the past 10-15 years. For example, shale that is approximately 5,000 - 9,000 feet below the surface holds methane, natural gas. (Other technology although not drilling deep enables the controversial extraction and refinement of bitumen found in Alberta’s oil sands to make ’synthetic’ crude.) In the U.S. shale is being exploited which is increasing output of natural gas. The technology appears to have originated in the Barnnet shale of Texas. There is also drilling in Colorado, but I am most familiar with the Marcellus shale under which southern NY state, 3/4s of PA, western OH, and most of W VA are placed.

In looking at NY and PA, the drilling is moving faster than the knowledge of its consequences. The gas industry is in a boom. The governments (fed, state, local) seem to be behind in regulation and of course excited and lobbied to because of potential economic growth. Natural gas, as the least polluting of hydrocarbons, is considered a possible bridge in the transition to alternative, green energy. It affords the U.S. less dependence on foreign oil.

On the other hand, hydraulic fracturing (fracking) is used and is at issue. This is basically high-pressure pumping of 2-6 million gallons of fresh water, plus sand, plus 1-5 % of fracking fluids for each well into the ground. The drills do not stop at the gas reserve, but once there robots turn them to a 90 degree angle that extends the reach another 3,000 or so feet horizontally. Drilling can reach beneath areas previously untouchable like towns and wetlands.

What are those 1-5% chemicals in fracking fluids? We will not know until the “Halliburton Loophole” of the 2005 energy bill is erased. It excuses hydrofracking companies from exposing what chemicals they use to proprietary reasons. Halliburton was the inventor of these fluids. Trivia: Who was VP when this was passed? Halliburton and two other fracking companies have stated that they have used diesel fuel. Pumping diesel fuel into the ground!! BTEX chemicals are suspected - very toxic and known to cause cancer. All other industries must apply for a permit before emitting chemicals into the ground due to the Safe Water Drinking Act.

Companies have sucked streams dry - ruining important headwaters and threatening watersheds. The fracking fluid that comes back to the surface is filled with toxic metals, salts, and unknown fracking chemicals. This so-called brine must be treated by an industrial sanitation system to remove the toxins. Local districts do not have the capacity. Already folks along the Monongahela River have experienced contaminated drinking water. Elsewhere 10,000 fish died in a spill on a creek in SW PA. Over 2,000 roads have been damaged by heavy equipment. The Commonwealth is allowing drilling in state forests.

……well, if anyone finds this interesting, your comments would be welcome. Astrologically, I imagine the growing demand of resources and their extraction would be an interesting political, environmental area of investigation. I just do not have the time yet to go there. Have at it!

Since I have only an Ephemeris for 2010, could someone pls. tell me when Uranus will be approaching 12 degrees Aries, which is where my natal Mars is located. I’m not sure I want to be around for this conjunction although, since it will take place in my 7th House and I am single, maybe it will be a non-event. I sure hope so.

Has anyone else had a physical reaction to viewing or hearing about the details of the oil drilling, leaks, attempted plugging, etc. off the coast of Louisianna? I’ve been told that I’m a “sensitive” but this is ridiculous. I’m avoiding the specifics on the news to spare my gastro-intestinal system. Poor Mother Earth!

Noelle - Uranus will be at 12 degrees Aries in June 2013 and will be retrograding across that area of the zodiac for a couple of years before taking a direct motion.

Noelle, to be even more specific Uranus will begin its conjunction to 12 Aries in June 2010, it will hit it again in retrograde in Mar/Apr of 2014, and have a last and LONG encounter with it in December 2010 where it will turn direct ON 12 degrees Aries which will take the conjunction well into January (if not all of January) 2015.

In the 7th house? Might be a whirlwind romance or partnership and very exciting!

still sick and freaking out about the gulf oil disaster; it’s is a call to action: It’s Time To End Our Dependence on Oil

Oiy! Forgive the typo in that last post. As stated in the previous post Uranus will conj. 12 Aries in June 2013 (not 2010).

This is what I was looking for yesterday:

Corporate Media as a Toxic Dispersant

Shadowhawk, speaking of 5,000 foot deep….I received this email from a friend in Seattle a few minutes after reading these entries, specifically yours….sink holes opening everywhere, the SF Bay Area just had one….we really don’t know what we are dealing with anymore, I think.

King County here is busy drilling a large Sewer Line under some residential areas ….SINK HOLES POPPING UP ! Broke the drill mechanism ….Millions over budget….And they are not down more a 1000 feet tops ! Now 5000 feet under water …..thats another world ! BP will be in court over this mess for decades !

From the 1953 CIA Overthrow of Democracy in Iran, to the Iraq War, to the Criminal Gulf Catastrophe and Deaths, BP Was There

If you were to draw an oily line from the first exploitation of oil in the Middle East by the British in 1901 (they were in the process of converting their then world dominating naval fleet from coal to oil and were in desperate need of it) to the overthrow of the secular democratic leader in Iran, Mohammed Mossadeq, in 1953, to the Iraq War, to the criminal environmental catastrophe in the Gulf, BP would have been there.

But the fourth largest company in the world wasn’t always called BP. It used to be owned by the British Government (remember the navy armada in need of oil). It was named the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company when the CIA teamed up with the British because the Western style Iranian leader Mossadeq wanted to nationalize Britain’s 100% owned and run giant oil concession in Iran, and the West would have none of that. So Eisenhower authorized “Operation Ajax,” and the Shah of Iran was placed in power — ruling with an iron fist and the dreaded SAVAK, all the time fully backed by the U.S. — leading to the radical theocratic revolution that we still confront today. All the time BP, which formally adopted its current name in 1954, was there.

BP was there throughout the de facto colonization of the Middle East to provide oil to the West, the British and the U.S. remaining strong partners in keeping any recalcitrant nations in line. Which leads to the Iraq War and why many Americans and Brits were puzzled by Tony Blair’s eagerness to go along with Cheney’s secret oil committee plan to seize Iraq oil fields and Bush’s belief that the war was Biblically justified. BP is the largest corporation in the UK and the third largest energy company. Do you have any more questions?

BP and its American counterparts are part of the corporate oligarchy that run governments when it comes to energy policy. They don’t take orders from sovereign nations; they give them…..

In the 7th house? Might be a whirlwind romance or partnership and very exciting!

Hey, I’ve got Uranus currently conjunct my 00 Aries Sun in my 7th house, with Jupiter about to join that conjunction in another week or two. But my love life seems pretty non-eventful, as does a lot of other aspects of my life. Of course, one never knows, right?

Noelle, I don’t know what your mars aspects but I’ve just had uranus transit my natal mars in the last 2 years and I remember it made me communicate in a very honest way and I also had less patience with “nonsense” from others. Maybe more anger, too, but it helps knowing it’s temporary.

Hope Uranus and Jupiter bring some great people your way. Maybe they’ll be unusual but also be generous with good humor, in the teaching or legal profession (or maybe you’ll meet them in an educational setting). I’ve heard that uranian relationships can be short but stimulating! Jupiter in the 7th should help smooth out things in general in terms of making contacts, right?

New thread up. I was going to look at the coming election, but it got too confusing. So I changed gears.

Hi There Ms. Nancy & Friends !

Well here I am again with my Dr. Declination hat on to offer the following:

The Spring Eq. Chart for the instant of 17:33:00 Universal Time, March 20, 2010 valid for the whole world in terms of the Declination of the Planetary bodies, reveals the following interestingly appropriate symbology:

Moon at 23N09:25, with Mars at 23N09:35 and nothing else even close except for the Moons North Node at 22S14:12 while the South Node is right in the Northern and this Mix kinda sez:

“Folks are gonna be tend to be Seriously Pissed Off about being entrapped in dire situations not necessarily of their direct creation, and while they did nothing to prevent any of it, will not hesitate to voice their sense of urgency about getting out of them”

Ya Think ? - Well, with all the Humptey Dumbteys
we’ve got lined up along the the narrow, World-wide Wall of Fate, it won’t take many more of them going over the side to reach a “Tipping Point” of systemic failure for all of 1st World life as we know it.

Ladies & Gents, start your Victory Gardens now coz Monsanto & the GA team is gainin’ on the lot of us.

Best of Luck,
Regards
RC
