SOME RUMINATIONS

Two noticeable events happened yesterday. July 10th, the day of the exact Jupiter/Neptune/Moon conjunction, witnessed President Obama’s relatively successful public relations visit overseas culminate in his meeting with the Pope at the Vatican. Juxtaposed to this illustrious meeting, back on the domestic front and in striking contrast was the arrival of that dreaded deadline announced by many of the major banks that they will refuse to cash recently issued California State IOUs. By all estimates, these events appear diametrically opposed to each other. Certainly the banks in making that decision will exacerbate existing financial difficulties for the US economy. But in quite a different manner, perhaps one development will enable those maligned energies to be channeled into entirely different possibilites. Part and parcel of Neptune’s predominant characteristic is that it often fogs issues, bringing about disillusionment. But by achieving those ends, the individual can more easily make a transition. Out of sheer necessity, I feel there are avenues being made available to all of us to turn our vision within, allowing us to focus more succinctly on our inner spiritual resources for sustenance. Perhaps Saturn has its role to play in its approaching quincunx to the Ne/Ju/Ch conjunction that will help facilitate a grounding force to these varying influences bringing about a more cohesive durable balance.

To quote astrologer Cathy Lynn Pagano if I may, she writes in her June 2nd entry of OPEDNEWS….

“……….. Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius inspire us to see with the eyes of spirit and rise above our limitations. Sometimes that purpose is to fight injustice, to grow in consciousness, to learn to live differently or to take care of unfinished soul business. The hope is that you’ll end up at peace with yourself and the world.

Another cosmic indication that suggests this is a time of hope and optimism for the future is what astrologers call a ‘mutual reception’ between Uranus in Pisces and Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius. This means that these planets are staying in each other’s ‘houses’. Uranus (with Saturn) rules Aquarius and Jupiter and Neptune rule Pisces. Mutual receptions enhance the planets ability to operate smoothly and fully. This particular cosmic configuration has only occurred once in the past 3,000 years!”

Palin is a phenomenon, indeed. Neptune is a tough planet to endure. I have it in my first house, conjunct my Saturn there - both in Libra. My life makes no sense at all. Neither does she!

From a spirit perspective, Sarah Palin is fulfilling a very important role: making visible what has been unspoken. She is representing in fullness a trend that has occurred in politics for 40 years: image before substance, representing the “average person” by being average, and general lack of depth. Of course there are positive qualities to Palin, but this is why there are such strong reactions - to those who are aware of this trend, she is a fulcrum of energy.

It’s reasonably likely she will continue in politics, and she will help bring conscious awareness to the movement away from this trend. It is a process that will take years, but we are definitely heading towards a similar direction as Europe and South America.

I would never vote for Sara Palin, if for no other than a supercilious reason that I could not stand listening to that high-pitched voice of hers for four or eight years as president. I also don’t like her folksy kind of way of speaking to audiences. Maybe that makes me an elitist, but I want a president who can act and speak with some stature and class. After eight years of a grammatical and syntactical massacre of the English language under Bush, I find it refreshing to have a president who if he were to fail at everything else at least sounds presidential and speaks as if he were educated.

Having said that, I am disappointed that Starlight has chosen to center on Palin for her post. (Yes, it’s her blog and she can center on whomever she wishes.) Two days ago, almost everyone who posted tore this woman apart. They projected every negative innuendo and gossip imaginable at her in their rants and partisan snearkiness. The viciousness with which our side has gone after this woman scares me with what would happen once we control the Supreme Court as well. Our lack of concern for the truth and for character assassination only reinforces what happens in any society when any given group procures too much power. Leftist fascism is just as real, and just as much a threat as fascism from the right.

What is most disappointing is that there are a number of bloggers on this site, who wrap themselves in spiritual talk of becoming one with the godhead within, and how we must come to recognize our illusion of separateness; and then in total hypocrisy slam any one or any group that doesn’t think exactly like us. In other words, the world will be one, when all the world idiots think and live exactly as we do; and by God, through laws or force we will see to it that they think and act as we want them to. So much for liberty and a free society. Totalitarian of the left or totalitarian of the right, ultimately, what difference does it make–totalitarianism is still totalitarianism.

I remained silent on the issue two days ago when all the negative, condescending posts on Palin were spitting out like unrelenting cannon fodder. I hoped once people got past projecting their own negative shadows, we would move on to weightier problems facing the world, than on another celebrity gone hay-wired. Not to mention that the thread that day just left me feeling sully reading it.

Unfortunately, for Sara Palin she suffers from the three unpardonable sins to progressives; pro-life, opposition to gay marriage, and being a republican. Therefore, we are justified in destroying her. Making her life such a nightmare, until we ultimately push her over the edge, and with gleeful pride cheer what we have succeeded in doing. Yet in our own house we have total embarrassments like Joe Biden and Nancy Peloci, but they’re our “idiots” so we refrain from comment or become apologetic. Yes, partisanship is what it is, the beat goes on, and nothing changes.

As far as I’m concerned, I want a new politics, and neither party offers anything but more of the same, while we the people continued to be royally screwed, whether it’s by an increasingly encroaching government that encompasses every aspect of our lives, or a group of financial elites who own our so-called representatives. Right now it appears, both are doing a royal job of screwing us. Meanwhile, we practice politics as usual, and waste time with all the partisan political bull—-. Nice distractions for a body politic, while the country goes to hell.

Sorry, if I sound like I’m preaching, or chastising, or if I’m being too blunt. Jerry W, would be so much more subtle and less direct in attempting to make the same points, and therefore, probably more effective in the long-run. But being a Sagittarius, there are times when I can’t help but being direct and frank, and calling a spade a spade.

Maybe book deals, speaking engagements etc. But political career? Based on recent events, it appears her political life is dead in the water. I think she lost a lot of her credibility as a politician by not finishing out her term as governor. However, there’s a lot of material for Saturday Night Live’s Tina Fey to work with if Sarah decides to continue. My instinct tells me she doesn’t have the fortitude nor the endurance.

I read to look at your chart to see where the 7/10/09 Moon/Jupiter/Neptune/Chiron conj. was taking place to see the theme you will be dealing with in coming months.

For Obama, it occurred in his first hs. opp. Uranus in the 7th, which reflects the strain in relationships with Biden, Rahm, etc.

It works…it occurred in my 4th opp. MC. Finalizing book, but some crises with pets’ health this week which needed expensive diagnostics, and fostering to avoid euthanasia for the shelter because the sick care unit is full.

Would be interested to see how it affects others here.

Thoughts from a novice: Interesting that the Neptune-Jup-Chiron meet-up with Palin’s Sun-Mars-Saturn stellium occurs in her 7th house. That stellium is opposite her natal Ascendant. With Mars/Venus squaring the stellium (on the date of her resignation announcement) – it seems this energy focuses a light on her relationship with the public, and on how the appearance of that relationship. I’m guessing that, for a public person, the 7th house would include they way they relate to the public. That natal Sun-Mars-Saturn combination seems to delineate great intensity and life purpose, even if conflicted. If those musings are correct, I would expect her, eventually, to return to the public life she is now finding so difficult, just because of the energy in the 7th.

About the hypocrisy thing. I fully understand what you’re saying. It’s the nature of the mind. Unfortunately, we all have it to one degree or another. No escaping it. We are full of contradictions - conflicting emotions and ideas. It can be perplexing and frustrating so much of the time.

E. Tolle probably best describes the way to come to terms with it. His words so often helps to get things back into perspective (at least it does for me). Nothing to do with our conventional ideas of spirituality mind you……. it has to do with listening to the small voices inside ones head. I think you’ll fully appreciate and enjoy what he has to say………

Freeing Yourself From Your Mind

Question: What exactly do you mean by “watching the thinker”?

When someone goes to the doctor and says, “I hear a voice in my head,” he or she will most likely be sent to a psychiatrist. The fact is that, in a very similar way, virtually everyone hears a voice, or several voices, in their head all the time: the involuntary thought processes that you don’t realize you have the power to stop. Continuous monologues or dialogues.

You have probably come across “mad” people in the street incessantly talking or muttering to themselves. Well, that’s not much different from what you and all other “normal” people do, except that you don’t do it out loud. The voice comments, speculates, judges, compares, complains, likes, dislikes and so on. The voice isn’t necessarily relevant to the situation yourself at the time; it may be reviving the recent or distant past or rehearsing or imagining possible future situations. Here it often imagines things going wrong and negative outcomes; this is called worry. Sometimes this soundtrack is accompanied by visual images or “mental movies.”

Even if the voice is relevant to the situation at hand, it will interpret it in terms of the past. This is because the voice belongs to your conditioned mind, which is the result of all your past history as well as the collective cultural mind-set you inherited. So, you see and judge the present through the eyes of the past and get a totally distorted view of it. It is not uncommon for the voice to be a person’s own worst enemy. Many people live with a tormentor in their head that continuously attacks and punishes them and drains them of vital energy. It is the cause of untold misery and unhappiness, as well as disease.

The good news is that you can free yourself from your mind. This is the only true liberation. You can take the first step right now. Start listening to the voice in your head as often as you can. Pay particular attention to any repetitive thought patterns, those old gramaphone records that have been playing in your head perhaps for many years. This is what I meant by ‘watching the thinker’, which is another way of saying listen to the voice in your head, be there as the witnessing presence.

When you listen to that voice, listen to it impartially. That is to say, do not judge or condemn what you hear, for doing so would mean that the same voice has come in again through the back door. You’ll soon realize, there is the voice, and here I am listening to it, watching it. This I am realization, this sense of your own presence, is not a thought. It arises from beyond the mind.

So, when you listen to a thought, you are aware not only of thought but also of yourself as the witness of the thought. A new dimension of consciousness has come in. As you listen to the thought, you feel a conscious presence - your deeper self - behind or underneath the thought, as it were. The thought then loses its power over you and quickly subsides, because you are no longer energizing the mind through identification with it. This is the beginning of the end of involuntary and compulsive thinking.

When a thought subsides, you experience a discontinuity in the mental stream - a gap of “no mind”. At first, the gaps will be short, a few seconds perhaps, but gradually they will become longer. when these gaps occur, you feel a certain stillness and peace inside you. This is the beginning of your natural state of felt oneness with Being, which is usually obscured by the mind. With practice, the sense of stillness and peace will deepen. In fact, there is no end to its depth. You will also feel a subtle emanation of joy arising from deep within; the joy of Being.

It is not a trance-like state. Not at all. There is no loss of consciousness here. The opposite is the case. If the price of peace were a lowering of your consciousness, and the price of stillness a lack of vitality and alertness, then they would not be worth having. In this state of inner connectedness, you are much more alert, more awake than in the mind-identified state. You are fully present. It also raises the vibrational frequency of the energy field that gives life to the physical body.

As you go more deeply into this realm of no-mind, as it is sometimes called in the East, you realize the state of pure consciousness. In that state, you feel your own presence with such intensity and such joy that all thinking, all emotions, your physical body, as well as the whole external world become relatively insignificant in comparison to it. And yet this is not a selfish but a selfless state. It takes you beyond what you previously thought of as “your self”. That presence is essentially you and at the same time inconceivably greater than you. What I am trying to convey here may sound paradoxical or even contradictory, but there is no other way I can express it.

Instead of “watching the thinker”, you can also create a gap in the mind stream simply by directing the focus of your attention into the Now. Just become intensely conscious of the present moment. This is a deeply satisfying thing to do. In this way, you draw consciousness away from mind activity and create a gap of no-mind in which you are highly alert and aware but not thinking. This is the essence of meditation.

In your everyday life, you can practice this by taking any routine activity that normally is only a means to an end and giving it your fullest attention, so that it becomes an end in itself. For example, every time you walk up and down the stairs in your house or place of work, pay close attention to every step, every movement, even your breathing. Be totally present. Or, when you wash your hands, pay attention to all the sense perceptions associated with the activity; the sound and feel of the water, the movement of your hands, the scent of the soap, and so on. Or when you get into your car, after you close the door, pause for a few seconds and observe the flow of your breath. Become aware of a silent but powerful sense of presence. There is one certain criterion by which you can measure your success in this practice: the degree of peace that you feel within.

Pat C - Glad you will sleep well! I wrote it was to show why she is so appealing and compelling now, that it might return early in 2012, and that it won’t continue through that year, hence no chance of a win and really little of a candidacy.

Sagitarrius, first of all, I appreciate your honesty. I take your comments in a spirit of stimulating greater self awareness.

You’ve identified a significant pitfall in being active politically while aspiring to lead a spiritual life, one that I find challenging. Without self-awareness and constant vigilance, it is very easy to project our own shadow onto politicians because most of us are unconscious and “asleep” in any number of areas of the psyche.

Having said that, my impression, although I could be wrong, is that you feel you are free of the flaws and don’t include yourself in what you point out to other people. Also, your characterizations and sweeping condemnation of progressives are inaccurate. My experience is that Democratic politicians, including those you’ve mentioned, take a lot of heat from progressives when called for, which unfortunately is more often than I would like.

Jerry, lol. It’s interesting isn’t it that we call people who talk to themselves out loud crazy while the same thing we all do silently is not!

I often wonder if the transforming effects of mantras and repeating divine names or “practicing the presence” has to do with cutting off the constant talking to ourselves and therefore creating a space for the divine to come in.

Beautiful. For me it states nothing I don’t already intellectually know, bit it also good to be reminded. Also, I certainly do experience my times in the NOW. It’s beautiful, not a feeling–just observing. Being in touch with our higher selves. Like you told RC in one post. I’m not perfect, I’m still a process in the working. (paraphrasing, but I think I’m accurate in portraying your meaning.) What turned me off to institutional religion is that so many people walk around with doctrines and beliefs in their head, but there is little that is real and authentic in their lives. We all play a good game of talking about “what’s right” or “doing what’s right” in the abstract, and then to one degree or another live moral lives of expediency. But at least if we are sincere and attempt to be genuine with ourselves and others, we will not just talk the game. We will check ourselves, and allow observation (not the thinking mind) to show us where ego is at play. I like something Lorrie U posted yesterday, (I’m paraphrasing again.) We will know what to do when the time comes. As I take it, no worry–no mind. We see not with feeling or emotions, but with the inner eye of intuitive consciousness.

Sorry LJ, I’ve had enough passion in my life. Passion can bring exhilarating highs, but it can also bring devastating lows. Passion especially feeds the ego. The need to be right and dogmatic, and everyone else must believe as I believe. Or if everyone else would just behave the way I want them to behave. It is our expectations of how things should be, that get us in so much trouble.

As a Sagittarian with Virgo rising, I not only have high ideals and standards, but I also have had my bouts with religious and political dogmatism. That can be the dark side of Sagittarius. Virgo doesn’t help it, by being a perfectionist and critical as well at its worse aspect. Not exactly a good combination for someone who lives in a culture where mediocrity reigns supreme. Unfortunately, for me, I have too much Uranus in my chart to probably live happily in a Confucius culture like Japan or Korea.

I, unfortunately, drift in and out of this state of “no mind.” For example, two nights ago I was walking late at night. My mind was so occupied, that by the time I returned home, I was totally oblivious to everything around me while on my walk. Last night, I took the same late night walk. Only now I observed. I focused on what was around me. I would not allow my mind to venture on anything else except observing–the leaves silhouetted under the light of the lamp posts, the trees standing out in their brilliance, the once full moon enshrined in a haze of portending storms, the raccoons, the skunk, the possums, the jack rabbits. The feel of the humidity, tempered by a slight breeze. The distant sound of a passing train–everything that escaped me the night before was now so real and vivid. So as always not through effort, but simple observance I attempt to continue in my act of perfecting.

Helena, just saw your comment. Hopefully, the above answers it as well. Yes, we are all guilty of making broad generalizations, particularly when we pigeon-hole people into groups like progressives, conservatives, democrats, republicans, fundamentalists this, and Marxists that. The mind can’t avoid classifying entirely without surrendering mind and ego. But as long as we continue to play these partisan games, turmoil and conflict will go on world without end. Amen. I am tired of being used by politicians for their own self-aggrandizement and personal agendas and ambitions. The problem in the world is first and foremost a spiritual problem, and Marxism and capitalism or material responses to spiritual problems. The government can’t solve them and neither can corporations. Both can only exacerbate the spiritual malaise with their material answers.

Jerry, Lorrie, I have been delving a little into Alice Bailey’s “Destiny of the Nations.” In this volume, Bailey reveals the signs which govern various countries, including the U.S.

One will be the emerging influence which will govern the ego or the soul of the country or nation, and the other that which governs at the present moment the personality ray of the individual country, and so conditions the masses. She goes on to reveal that the U.S. is governed by Gemini and Aquarius, Aquarius on the soul level. It is in this context that I wonder about the current Jupiter Neptune conjunction. To my mind, I think this may be relevant to your contemplation, Jerry. That perhaps those who are sensitive to the Aquarius influences, can aid the nation in a deep spiritual way by turning within and bringing through the energies made possible by this alignment of Jupiter Neptune in Aquarius. I also think it is significant that Jupiter is the esoteric ruler of and is now in Aquarius, while simultaneously furthering the ongoing goal of removing the obstacles within.

It doesn’t look like the Taibbi story concerning Goldman-Sachs will get major play. Fox News has to protect Wall Street. Wall Street will protect itself. NBC and CNBC are owned by General Electric, who has been in bed for Obama since day one. GE has a great deal of wealth to gain with Cap and Trade and has been the single biggest impetus behind this disaster of a bill, not to mention the millions AL Gore will make from this phony global warming charade.

The progressives are so out on a limb with the hysterics and cooked books of junk science on global warming, which in our Orwellian world is now “climate change”; that they want this story to go away. So the left and right have their interest to protect, and the beat goes on.

I don’t look for politics to solve our problems in any meaningful way. I guess I would have to call politics a necessary evil.

Many liberals call themselves progressives today, because Republicans effectively made liberal a dirty word to the public. I don’t feel I need to run from the label, although labels ultimately become a way to pigeon-hole people, and then we don’t need to think. We already have in our heads a ready made template with which to brand people. I recall distinctly the one time I referred to myself as a liberal. It was to Sonya, who responded that she was beyond all the “isms.” I think that was an excellent answer.

To answer you more specifically. I consider myself a liberal in the old fashion sense of the word, and in the tradition of an Eleanor Roosevelt or an Adlai Stevenson. When I was young, I saw nationalism as chaotic tribalism that kept the world in conflict and wars. The United Nations sounded like such a good idea. Here is where I have changed, and parted ways with Roosevelt and Stevenson. There are too many authoritarian and totalitarian states in the world to put real power in this collective body, not to mention the idea of a one world government, which to me anyway is scary.

Liberalism for me is “reason ruling over passion”. Liberal democracy depends upon everyone playing by the same rules, which is why liberal democracies often fail when the likes of a Hitler or a Chavez destroy the very system they initially used to procure power in the first place. It means protecting the rights of minorities (and in one way or another we are all minorities) from the likes of mob rule. We are a republic, not a democracy. It means a free, unfettered press. Yes, and much of that will be very partisan. We need to break the back of corporations in their control of media. Although I suppose in a sense, the Internet may already be doing that. We also need to break the control of the financial monopoly, which will require government restraint to break this crony capitalism. But I don’t like what we have now with nationalization of productivity, and thereby the potential for control over all aspects of our lives.

My view of liberal is one in which government helps those who are truly in need. It is not socialism. I realize the inherent contradictions in my thoughts. Politicians can always find new “needs” that need to be addressed, and love playing sugar daddy to their constituents. I also realize that in the hands of socialists–egalitarianism becomes the clarion cry. As long as someone has more than someone else, socialists will always be looking to level the playing field. Of course, even in communist countries, the leveling has always come at a high price, and the party members never seem quite to get leveled.

Yet, I can ‘t agree with libertarianism, because it is in my opinion to extreme in its support of individual rights at the expense of community. We have a national park system today that benefits us all, because government stepped in. We have cleaner air and water because government step up to the challenge. I want government to inspect our food for safety. The states were not willing to protect the rights of African-American during Jim Crow, and the federal government had to step in. Yet, I’m also aware that once power is placed in the hands of government, it doesn’t know when to quit.

We, as a nation, share more than just a bond to freedom and equality. People are expected to live by certain cultural commitments that restrain personal freedom. Examples would include military service, family, civic responsibilities, and restrains on individual acts that are a threat to society as a whole. Of course, that is the crux of the problem, who decides where one’s individual liberties end and one’s social responsibilities begin? That is hopefully worked out in the trashing of ideas even with all of its propaganda and partisanship. Sometimes we as a society go too much one way along the spectrum, and other times we go too much the other way on the continuum. In the end, the thrashing out of ideas has so far worked out so that we have maintained a relative balance that keeps us from sliding off into totalitarianism of the right or the left. I must admit today, I am more concerned if this balance can be maintained, particularly if it means developing new structures and institutions. We maintained the democratic balance during the Great Depression and World II, but we didn’t do so hot during the Civil War.

I’m sorry, Josh, I probably meandered all over the place. That’s the problem when we try to pigeon-hole. Ideologies may be fine for the mind, but they don’t work out well at all for real people. They can be a guiding light, but they are not the Light. So if you need to label me, call me a pragmatic liberal. Whatever that means.

Great posts today, particularly from Sagittarius, Helena, Matthew and Will. Sarah Palin would have fascist tendencies if elected to the Oval Office. I was afraid that might happen with Pluto in Capricorn. Thank America’s lucky stars it won’t, and thank you Starlight fot showing it clearly. But fascism will be rampant in Iran, China and Russia. Not a pretty thought. The answer is definitely spiritual, but spiritual people must reingage with the world. Obama never said ”yes I can”, he said ”yes WE can.”

California Defaulted on Its Short-Term Debt Obligations

“……. In lieu of cash, California issued i.o.u.’s to meet obligations to vendors and citizens, postponing payments on its current liabilities.

But current liabilities are short-term debts. Ergo, based on this standard definition, California is already defaulting.

It’s not the same as defaulting on its bonds. But for reasons I’ll explain in a moment, I’m now more convinced than ever that a bond default is also coming.

Consider the importance of this week’s events …

If California’s creditors had a say in the issuance of i.o.u.’s, Sacramento officials might be able to deny they’re in default by implying mutual consent. But that’s far from the facts. The creditors had nothing to do with this decision. It was unilateral, a telltale aspect of debt defaults.

If the i.o.u.’s were as good as cash, Sacramento might also deny the D-word. But the sad reality is that, if you’re among those stuck with California i.o.u.’s, you have only two choices: You have to either hold them while you sweat and cross your fingers or you have to sell them at a steep discount — exactly the same choices facing bond investors after a default.

If all major financial institutions accepted California i.o.u.’s, that might also help Sacramento justify a continued denial of default. But the reality is that most banks are not accepting the i.o.u.’s, and no one could argue their reasoning is financially unsound.

Why accept a piece of paper at face value when it’s worth significantly less than face value on the open market? The nation’s largest banks already have enough troubles with toxic mortgages, toxic credit cards and toxic loans on commercial real estate. They’re not exactly anxious to pile on toxic California paper.

If, as in past episodes, California’s budget mess were mostly due to a political snafu, it could be argued that the i.o.u.’s are merely a temporary stop-gap. But that’s clearly not the case either.

To the contrary, California’s budget crisis is rooted in an unprecedented economic depression with 11.5 percent unemployment and the greatest concentration of mortgage delinquencies in the nation. Even if the i.o.u.’s are ultimately paid in full, California’s debt troubles are not going away.

Why I Expect a Default on California’s Bonds

Short of an 11th-hour rescue from Washington — where political resistance to bailouts has grown dramatically in the wake of recent federal rescues — it will be extremely difficult for California to avoid a default on its bonds.

The fundamental reason: A vicious cycle of budget tightening and falling state revenues.

The state cannot balance its books without inadvertently making the California economy — and its deficit — even worse.

When it cuts spending, it merely creates more unemployment and forces consumers to slash their own spending or default on their own obligations, driving the economy into a still deeper depression. And when it raises taxes, it has a similar impact.

Either way, the end result is lower revenues flowing into the state’s coffers.

But now California has over $28 billion in bonds coming due between now and October. How will it come up with the cash is a great mystery to me. Bond holders are certainly not going to be among those accepting i.o.u.’s.

Wall Street Rating Agencies Also in Denial

The business model of Moody’s, S&P and Fitch is to sell their ratings to bond issuers; the ratings are bought and paid for by the very institutions being rated, including the state of California.

After multiple investigations of the Wall Street ratings agencies, Congress and the Obama Administration are proposing radical changes. But right now, it’s business as usual, and the egregiously conflicted business model of the Wall Street rating agencies still stands.

I believe that’s a key reason the rating agencies have not yet fully recognized the obviously dire state of California’s finances. And that’s why California’s state Treasurer can still claim Wall Street “doesn’t agree” with more realistic analysis like ours.

In effect, the state virtually pays them to hold their punches.

But despite these blatant conflicts of interest, the truth cannot be bottled up forever. Here’s what I see coming next:

1. Downgrade massacre: A series of multi-notch downgrades by Fitch, Moody’s and S&P, making it extremely difficult — if not impossible — for California to roll over maturing debts at any cost.

2. Worsening deficit: Surging interest costs and greater than expected declines in cash inflows, bloating California’s deficit even further.

3. Washington snub: A last-ditch effort to persuade Treasury Secretary Geithner and President Obama to reverse their earlier decision not to bail out California.

But Washington’s arguments against a California bailout are relatively firm: They’re already giving California billions through the stimulus package. If they bail out California, what will they say to the dozens of other states that line up on the White House lawn asking for theirs?

In contrast, arguments supporting a federal bailout of California sound like a hollow rerun of last year’s “bailout-or-meltdown” ultimatum by former Treasury Secretary Paulson to Congress. It’s a long-ago discredited approach to financial emergencies.

4. Default on California bonds: Despite Sacramento’s official mantra that a default is impossible and unthinkable, it happens.

5. Cascade of defaults: If giant California can default, the new assumption is bound to be that almost any issuer of tax-exempt securities can do the same. A cascade of downgrades and defaults by other states and municipalities ensues.”

It’s almost the full article. Didn’t realize it until you pointed it out. If you look at the original text - it doesn’t appear lengthy at all. It appears long in this forum because the average composition of one line on this webpage is 7 to 10 words, whereas the average length in the Market Oracle article in its original text is approx. 20 to 25 words per line. Looks can be deceiving.

As far as the Market Oracle website is concerned, because it is linked to free promotions that serve as an advert for their investment services, it may not be completely inappropriate (free advertising for them). The triple conjunction is winding down now and as you can see, both the good and unpleasant aspects of the entities are at work, as is always the case with astrology, exactly like life. Some predicted a magical healing with great happiness, optimism, and loving collective togetherness. Others warned of disasters and false hopes. I’ve noticed a little of each, but mostly, I sense more of a feeling of suspension, people not knowing where it’s all headed. This configuration is especially important since it will be carried over for an entire year as Jupiter transits Pisces and meets Uranus on its way into Aries. We’ve only just begun and not knowing the future is paramount at this juncture. No one knows what’s ahead and once this fact is accepted the freedom inherent in the Saturn-Uranus oppositions can manifest.The future is ours to create.

People are grappling with hope and disillusionment in some way. And the main effect of Neptune …. dissolution. The negatives stand out and are actually supremely helpful since they guide people to problems in their psyches that if faced and worked with, can improve their existences. So running away from the negative can be a shortchanging of yourself.

So, the subject has been brought up a number of times. Evidently, you don’t remember these interactions. As for sending Starlight a private email, I don’t agree with that, Jerry, in that this issue involves everybody who posts here.

btw, I just looked up “chastise.” It means to scold severely, to criticize severely, or to rebuke. I went back and re-read my comments and they don’t strike me as either severely critical or confrontational. Evidently that’s how it felt to you and I respect that. I’ll be glad to email you if something arises in the future.

What I recall were two entries. First, Pat C’s entry…. a question directed to Nancy regarding copyright infringement and possible bandwidth costs and then Nancy’s reply to her; intimating that although it was commonly done, authors of the material could make an issue of it if they choose to. I detected no direct appeal to the readers to abide by certain restrictions, which I surmised was in effect leaving the matter up to the discretion of the participants. Nor did Nancy indicate ‘bandwith’ costs were a cause for concern. I interpreted the exchange between Nancy and Pat simply as a question and an answer. Nothing more, nothing less. Now that Nancy has stepped up and voiced her request, I feel the issue has been resolved.

I think the manner in which you questioned my intentions (my use of the word ‘excerpt’) and then relaying the question off to Pat (about bandwith costs), it felt as though you were being slightly judgemental and taking matters into your own hands. But then again it’s possible I misinterpreted your remarks. I think what I was trying to say is that Nancy is the moderator and consequently she is the one that should be consulted (directly without involving third parties such as Pat C) and for her to make the decisions. Anyway, no lingering feelings on my end. Nancy clarified her position. The issue is clear and understood. We’re back on even keel. It’s a new day.

To my knowledge, in the several years that I’ve been posting here in this forum, this is the first time the casual word ‘recommended’ (and it not being enforced) has been replaced by a more specific wording in the form of a ‘request’ by the moderator. Previously there was room for interpretation. Now there isn’t. To Nancy’s credit, she has been very polite and generous, and so inadvertantly the lines of understanding have been blurred It goes without saying, of course Nancy’s wishes will be respected.

Not surprisingly, a pipeline agreement (Nabucco) has, most likely, come out of the recent G8 talks, etc. But to me it seems to still be up in the air or very much in flux. I think all of this is key to whether we avoid WWIII.

Nancy, I did not think your post showed much of anything about Palin, as you bend astrology to fit whatever your bias is at the moment. This whole ‘victim’ thing is very sexist. If she was attacked with racist slurs, an aggressive response would be lauded. But it is institutionalized sexism to advocate a person respond to sexist attacks with passivity or to dismiss those attacks by belittling with saying she is “playing a victim”. I don’t know if you have girls in your life, but this attitude is very damaging.

What I see now is style over substance everywhere. I doubt very much that Palin would have released Obama’s anti DOMA brief that compared gay marriage to incest and pediphilia!! And if she did the lefties would howl. Obama appointed a man to head the DNC who is anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti stem cell research. He has broken most of his campaign promises, is escalating war, continues to torture, promotes government eroding our rights, not to mention his economic strategy. But he has a cool style and a “D” after his name and so he is loved. Talk about foggy! I agree his style is important, but it would be refreshing if the self proclaimed lefties would simply say that style is all a president needs to offer and they like his.

And, frankly, I like the Alaskan pipeline idea. I think the US is too much a consumer of energy. If we use it we should produce it. I’m sure we could not produce all of it but we should, with conscience, reduce our consumerism of it. Energy production would then be regulated by our standards and would not support extremely repressive governments.

One of the things that came out of today’s hearings was the reframe the Dems seem to be doing, finally, that it is the right-wingers on the Roberts Court that are the real judicial activists, turning over decades of established law in several cases recently. I have never found Nancy to be other than objective in her assessments. Much appreciation for the 12:31pm, Salon.com article on Goldman-Sachs by Glenn Greenwald you linked earlier. It was priceless. I needed that after reading the N.Y. Times article, which was such a fluff piece of nothingness, except for the bonus payouts.

The N Y Times article gave short shift to Taibbi’s article in Rolling Stone. It simply referred to Taibbi’s very metaphoric descriptive of GS. GS claims sour grapes, and the issue is dismissed by the reporters. No discussion at all about the specifics in Taiebi’s article.

Let’s get beyond the partisanship and clean house. If their is enough evidence to justify the various charges against Bush, Cheney, and other administration officials, and the courts find them guilty of whatever they are charged with, then off to prison with the guilty parties with more than just a slap on the wrist.

At the same time, the corrupt shenanigans of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chuck Shumer, John Smurtha, along with Chris Dodd and Barny Frank and their involvement in the Fannie Mae scandal–all also need to be put on trial and judged, assuming the evidence supports such actions. They’ve all appear to have violated the constitution in one way or another, and they and the myriad of others from both parties need to go. None of these people listed above can bring about the moral and institutional structural changes that our country and the world needs right now. They are the political class owned by the financiers. All of them have nothing but political contempt for the American people.

Every wave of feminists have pushed past the limits of the last. Some women who have had to deal with sexist limits in their lives, loves and careers want other women to have to be as ‘nice’ and passive as they have had to be just so they could survive. The girls now have something going for them that is new. They have been products of Title IX. They play competitive team sports and it really makes a difference in their lives. - I have written rather lenghtlily about my dislike for her, but I never called Palin any of the names you cite. I will now, though. I do not see any signs of her having a piercing mind, rather one filled with pre-fab, meaningless talking points- judging by her speeches- so ‘dumb as a stump’ doesn’t sound far-off to me. Re ’sluttishness’ I can only say that she very consciously plays her sex-appeal card, quite a sexist manoeuver in itself imo. Sarah Palin is a right wing woman who is against my and all my female relatives rights. She has been as truthful on the same par as George W Bush, in local and national politics. Her speaking style is no better than one group of memorized talking points. Her husband like the US so much he wants to take Alaska out of the Union.

Sarah Palin and her followers are not what I want to see in any kind of leadership position. I feel a bit sorry for Alaska for buying into her schtick. I do think she is as dumb as a box of rocks. But I have learned from both Bush and Palin, that manipulation is the most common substitute for intelligence.

Well, now we know why Sarah Palin is quitting as governor of Alaska.

In an op-ed in today’s Washington Post, she announced her new focus: killing our chance to build a clean energy economy, starting with the energy bill currently in Congress.

Her op-ed is a marvel of misinformation and outright lies. Just like conservatives in Congress, Palin is trotting out the “energy taxes” scare tactic, and arguing instead for more drilling and more dirty coal. This bill already has too many giveaways to Big Coal and Big Oil, but that’s still not enough for Palin. As ridiculous as Sarah Palin’s lies are, they’re getting attention, and they’re a real threat to clean energy.

This is the same Sarah Palin who doesn’t believe climate change is caused by humans. The same Sarah Palin who is obsessed with drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And the same Sarah Palin who’s looking for controversial issues to launch a 2012 presidential bid.

Now she’s positioning herself as the face of the conservative attack against clean energy, against the Clean Air Act—even against the creation of millions of new jobs in solar and wind.

But wind and solar create more than twice as many jobs as coal and oil. Clean energy is the only way to make America’s economy competitive in the 21st century.

The truth is we need a stronger energy bill in the Senate to combat our economic and climate crisis, but Sarah Palin’s lies could sink our hopes for a clean energy economy.

I recently heard a congressperson interviewed on my local public radio. He is a favorite of mine - very smart and progressive. I went to his website and will paste in a small portion of his cap and trade comments. Oddly they are similar to Palin’s except she seems to stress more of the employment angle. This is yet another reflection of the falling apart of the easy left and right nonsense. I also agree with her statement: “Do we want to control our energy supply and its environmental impact? Or, do we want to outsource it to China, Russia and Saudi Arabia?”

Remember, Palin has those Aquarius planets on or around the U.S. moon and the triple jupiter, neptune, chiron conjunction is highlighting that now (or very close). Yesterday, I heard Rush Limbaugh talking about the Taibbi article. He was stunned that it was in what he described as a far left magazine. I don’t know why he was stunned. One would expect the left to be anti-corporate. Although in fairness to Rush, he has always been opposed to the bail-outs. I just can’t stand when he tries to justify those CEO salaries.

Channel surfing today, and Bill O’Reilly and Glen Beck were also talking together about the Taibbi article and GS. O’Reilly made a comment about further follow-up and investigation on the part of his staff. Has anyone heard any conversation on any of the mainstream world news networks? I suppose like me most of you don’t listen to them. Has anyone even heard CNBC or CNN or Public TV discuss the GS issue? That’s when I’ll know that the story is becoming a major issue. I stand by my original post to Jerry W about “that woman”. If she has any shred of genuineness about her conservative positions and intends to stay in politics, it will have to be as an independent. She will never get the Repub nomination. If she tries to make peace with the party, her maverick image will be shattered unless it’s on her terms, and she will be seen by HER SUPPORTERS as just another politician. She could, depending on the issues and other candidates at the time, garner anywhere from 10 to 30% of the vote in the general election. Assuming that BO is the candiate and can hold the Dems together, I would think progressives would be encouraging her to go for it. It will split the dems, and be what keeps BO in office. Assuming that is, people will still want him in office. So assuming she runs as an independent, she may be handing BO a gift horse on a silver platter. What more would any of you want? At that point, the MSM will be singing her praises, and reinventing her with a whole new image. Poor GOP!

The portion of the NPR Here & Now program basically focused on the history of Goldman Sachs, the network of former executives in various high level positions, the ‘Profit’s recently disclosed and the lack of any regulation of Wall Street and how that has been imposed over the years. In a final statement Taibbi commented that while it was great for Wall St. it is disastrous for everyone else. It is good that people hear his voice.

I missed Elizabeth Warren’s portion of the segment….wasting my time in the dermatologists office, with them telling me my ‘tan’ from working outside will eventually kill me, and that by smearing titanium and zinc on my skin will save me from certain death!

Rachel Maddow tonight read a quote from Pat Buchanan about the GOP and the Sotomayor hearing. It was exactly what I was talking about in terms of the GOP identification with the victim role. The gist is that the white GOP men on the committee fear Sotomayor (and all minorities) have been taking away the white man’s rightful place in recent years due to affirmative action and providing cheaper labor. Liberals who follow politics closely are no doubt disoriented to see someone as accomplished as Sonia Sotomayor attacked for being a bullying racist by a bunch of racist bullies, but I think we should probably get a grip and understand that this is what racism looks like in 2009. Nancy, I think the “victimization” label is overused. After all, if one is attacked should one just be passive and say all is fine? All self defined groups are victimized - all - in one way or another, over time. Racism could be described as “crying victimization”, as are all the ‘isms’. Jerry W, thanks for making me laugh again. I’d seen that video a couple of years ago and was appalled as well as amused. As a woman, I can tell you that this stuff still happens to us. Women’s opinions are not highly valued in many instances, whereas any guy can state an opinion and everybody listens, even if he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Starlight, I agree with Digby. I have a couple of comments. It seems to me while racism is still with us, as a country there’s been a significant shift in that we’re not so tolerant of it and we are evolving.

Secondly, Rick Tarnas gave a presentation at a conference shortly after “Titanic” was released. Titanic is a symbol of the Western world view, which is predominantly white and masculine. So, I think there is a larger context to the anxiety that many people feel, certainly white men, but beyond that, because the worldview is pervasive in Western culture in men and women.

Although the turbulent side of the Uranus Pluto transit is more often talked about, historically great strides have been made in the women’s movement and the civil rights movement under this configuration, so there are positive and exciting things also to look forward to, along with the drama and turmoil. It is also within this larger context that I think we’re seeing the self immolation of the Republican party.

What on earth are you talking about? Is this “world Jewish conspiracy” garbage? “Planned intermarriage for thousands of years?” Until mid- twentieth century, marriage to a non-Jew, even without conversion to another faith, was seen as flouting Jewish law and abandoning the Jewish people. For the Orthodox, it still is. Although still a Jew in Jewish law, an intermarried Jew was considered outside the Jewish community, and in the past, usually the feeling was mutual — Jews who married out, particularly with conversion, did not wish to be thought of as Jewish, and their children did not consider themselves Jews.

About the eclipse’s path of totality (see map below), Meherabad, the site of M. Baba’s resting place, is located six miles from the town of Ahmednagar, about half way equi-distant between Mumbai and Aurangabad. Although it is blocked by the rectangular mileage graph, Meherabad probably can be pinpointed where the number 60 appears.

A bit of good news on the health care front.
Dennis Kucinich’s amendment to the house bill allowing single payer at the state level passed this morning in committee. Capitol Hill is swarming with lobbyists. A titanic battle is underway by the health insurance industry to kill the public option!

wonder how quickly a good health bill would pass if we just cut off the senator’s and representative’s health care. Didn’t Obama promise that we’d all have as good a coverage as government does? We don’t have coverage so they match that.

I never and I mean never would have thought that the government would cause me to doubt in the way this strange news about the refurbished Moon walk video (film?). For the first time in my life I have thought that perhaps the nuts were correct-there was no Moon walk. As someone else said,this is right up there with the stories of how no one absolutely no one was guarding the US on the morning off 9/11/91.
The “news” shook me. Maybe we are being ruled by lizards. How else to explain a total lack of understanding to say that NASA just “reused” the film. Is that a joke?

I watched a Saturn V rocket launch to the moon when I was living in Clairmont, FL, more than 60 miles away.

You could see it, without magnification.

Watching the reaction of the 6 wanker Senators wanting to “slow down” the momentum of the health care reform legislation (ie give the insurance lobby a chance to kill it?), it seems the information you shared above is relating more to domestic policy. After the CBO report today about the projected costs of reform, it feels like the momentum is in danger of coming to a screeching halt, allowing the August recess to occur without a final bill coming out of Congress.

Wouldn’t this be typical of the Jupiter - Uranus - Neptune…high expectations, sudden reversals, and disillusionment? Just a couple days ago, health care reform, including the public option, seemed to be a sure thing. I have to admit I am worried now.

Do you have any thoughts on the chances of the reform still happening when Congress comes back after August?

The court thought I was crazy, since I was the one that had been harmed– His fine–a miracle–was only $30.00, he had $5.00, and I paid the rest! But I owed him, from a past life, and lucky, I was able to pay him back, and end our link. Other connections, with “boyfriends” in my life were not that easy/all men usually caused heart break!!

LJ, yes I read that about the lobbyists also. For a self-employed person my insurance is decent (5K deductible of course!) but as someone said up thread, so many bankruptcies originate with loss of insurance.

Wish we could get some real progressives to replace Ben Nelson, Landrieu, Wyden and the rest of the blue dog democrats. The way I feel right now is the dems are doing their usual circular firing squad.

Wyden is not a blue dog - that is a centerist or conservative democrat. He is extremely progressive. I’m from Oregon, he is my senator, and Oregonians are extremely progressive. If he is delaying it is because this bill is a insurance corporate benefit bill and not a health care recipient bill. At least NPR is now calling it a medical “insurance” reform, rather than health “care” reform.

The democratic party was historically the party of “those who are not in power”, enveloping everyone who was not a land owning heterosexual white male. They are not a homogeneous group and encompass a far greater range of ideologies and demographics than the traditional republicans. I think this is why it seems like to get democrats together on any issue it is like “herding cats”. That is why, IMO, that a democratic majority is not at all the same thing, power wise, as a repub majority. They do not vote as a block.

Starlight does not seem to put much emphasis on the houses. Instead, the way I read her fascinating writings, she looks at the energetics of the planets as they relate to each other across the natal, transiting, and progressed views. But there is something about the houses that fascinates me. Maybe it’s a bit too formulaic though, as the traditional interpretations don’t always work so well, and I find I have to go deeper. For example, the 2nd house - it isn’t just about money … your values and resources go much deeper than the dollars. One hopes so, anyway!

Ali - Thank you for making the point about Obama’s transits connecting to domestic policy, although it also seems, if I remember, that the Russians, after the good meeting they all had, made some less accommodating comments afterwords. But yes, it does seem that the Neptunian energy could relate to health care fantasies and disappointments for now.

However, I do think Obama will get a lot of what he wants in August, September, and October. I am working on a piece now on Cheney, but the following piece was to be about this. So here is a preview.

The Jupiter station (exact at 17Aquairus10) that is conjunct Obama’s Ascendant (18Aquarius03) in September and October, will also spend much of the time sesquiquadrate the US Venus (3Cancer06). Venus rules the US 6th house and the US MC. As I have said before, I see the Pluto opposition to US Venus of 2009 and 2010 as being about unemployment, severe economic anxiety, and quite possibly a bad flu epidemic. All of this will be exacerbated when Saturn joins Pluto (3Libra) come November 2009 through August 2010. However, while Jupiter is aspecting US Venus in September and October, before Saturn arrives in November, and before Pluto is fully back in a tight orb, we may get a health care bill and some optimistic economic and employment numbers. Obama will be happy (Jupiter conjunct his Ascendant) and the US will be more optimistic (Jupiter to Venus activating natal conjunction). The Stock Market may go up, etc. The turning point will be around November 6 when there will be some kind of trifecta of s*&% hitting the fan along the lines of a flu epidemic, economic downturn (possibly related to flu), and a foreign policy crisis. But I think before the trouble starts up again, we will have some kind of health care, likely during Jupiter if not before.

Speaking of corporations running the government, here is some anecdotal information that is very depressing. I have to be careful of confidentiality, so the details will be very fuzzy. As you know, I live in the DC area, so I have many government workers in my private practice. I was talking to one yesterday who is fairly high up in her agency. She knew of several instances where a contractor was doing a crappy job and the person in the agency in charge of that contract tried to rein them in. But the head of the private company (contractor) always seemed to have contacts high up somewhere in the government, and so the person in the agency ended up pulled off of the contract rather than supported in his or her demands and oversight for better work from the contractor.

On a different note, if the following analysis has substance to it, I wonder what the August 20th New Moon portends for the future stability of our economy……

It is my understanding that this lunar eclipse time period usually marks the onset of the crash wave, which usually takes a week or two to fully unfold, and the worst day of the crash does not usually fall on these few days around the full moon. In fact, Chris Carolan, has shown that it is more likely to occur approximately 55 hours prior to the following new moon. Yesterday, we had a full moon which was also a lunar eclipse and occurred two weeks after a solar eclipse. We had the same setup in 1987 where the market started tanking right on the 10/6 lunar eclipse following the solar eclipse but did not all-out crash until 13 days later, just before the new moon.”

Normally I don”t like conspiracy theories but this one makes me chuckle. The greatest moment for mankind and all filmed in the badlands of Arizona.
The first US moon landing launch was 16 July 1969 1.32pm UT from Kennedy, Fl, USA. This gives an 11th house Cancer Sun trine Neptune (Mars) on the IC sextile Pluto in Virgo (conj Jupiter Uranus); with Pluto opposition NNode in Pisces. It is almost a locomotive chart propelled by Saturn in Taurus which can be miserly - but Saturn is Saturn so tends to be reasonably ethical unless hugely badly aspected. Neptune Mars on the IC would worry me marginally and trine Sun, sextile Pluto, Jupiter, Uranus. But Neptune is pretty cosmic which could explain that. This chart timing does put tremendous emphasis on Pluto Jupiter Uranus which seems a reasonable description of the greatest achievement in exploration ever.
The Sun = Neptune/Pluto = Neptune/NNode which could point to elements of deception, or cosmic connections, or the tendency to attract conspiracy theories. And Neptune = Sun/Jupiter = Sun/Uranus which says much the same. So you can take your pick depending on the balance of your paranoia.

Yes. That’s where the major portion of the attacks occurred last Nov 26th. It was a personal symbollic gesture in her feelings of wanting to show her support for India. She and former Pres. Bill Clinton have had a deep connection with Indian friends and philanthropic enterpises in India spanning over a period of two decades.

Our Starlight came to the same conclusion that the revolution “proper” has not gotten underway, although Marjorie indicates a much earlier date for that. I think what we can all agree on is that the regime grows more vulnerable every day and that there is a viable revolution unfolding.l

From the reports I’ve seen, Rafsanjani is actually the second most powerful figure in Iran behind Khameini. imo from sources I’ve been reading, his recent public statements in support of the protesters indicate there has been a shift in the political winds or a groundswell of opposition is building, probably within the clerics’ establishment. He is a shrewd politician from what I gather and he would not have come out so publicly in support of the opposition otherwise.

Yes, in individual birth charts. I am reluctant to interpret these aspects in individual and national charts identically. Venus Pluto in individual charts is among those aspects related to the Persephone myth, whose transfomation from Kore, the Maiden, into Persephone, the Queen of the Underworld, begins with her abduction and rape by Hades (Pluto). Patty Hearst struck me as a modern day example of the young Kore, although I haven’t looked at her chart and transits at the time she was abducted.

Liz Greene’s “Astrology of Fate” and Sylvia Brinton Perera’s “Descent to the Goddess: A Way of Initiation for Women” provide keen insight into these aspects. Perera is a Jungian analyst who uses the Sumerian myth of the descent of Inanna as a frame of reference point in her work.
