These days, our government is looking more and more like a second-rate mobster movie and less and less like a functioning democracy. Essentially, Tea-Party Republicans in power want to keep their power and their funding and are threatening dire consequences to any who would stand in their way. On the streets, this is known as extortion: you give me what I want or I seriously harm you and your family. In Congress, it amounts to threats to shut the US government down and destroy the US and the global economy by not raising the debt ceiling. The Mafioso-GOP is demanding that its extremist wish list be met or else – despite the results of the recent election, despite the Constitution, despite their oath to protect the nation rather than their careers.
Personally, I think anyone supporting this madness should be put in prison for treason. Didn’t al Qaida’s leader, Ayman Zawahiri, recently state that he specifically wants to damage the US economy? So how do duly elected US Congressional representatives get away with an insane and purposefully harmful plan that aids an expressed and well-known goal of our enemies? Perhaps it is time for another red line to be drawn.
The question in everyone’s mind today is how much destruction will be done by the Congressional lunatic fringe before these issues can be put to rest. From what I can tell, the bigger trouble for the Obama administration will come during the debt ceiling negotiations in mid-October, as well as in December, when a potential continuing resolution will expire and the budget will once again be an issue.
For the duration of September, the president is enjoying some renewed success and popularity. Speaking at some campaign-style events, he seems to have gotten his witty and relaxed mojo back, while he explains the current impasse in Congress to the American people. Moreover, he has scored some significant and unexpected accomplishments in the diplomatic realm. The UN Security Council has agreed on a resolution over the disposal of Syria’s chemical weapons, and President Obama and Iran’s President Rouhani have initiated official contact between the two nations for the first time since 1979. The astrological marker of this success is transiting Jupiter semisquare Obama’s Moon and quincunx his Ascendant through September 30.
If the continuing resolution is not passed by midnight on October 1, during the president’s beneficial aspects, then we will see enormous tumult from October 1 through the first half of October 3, when the transiting Sun will square Pluto and then oppose Uranus, suggesting heightened power struggles and very fast-paced events likely leading to resolution possibly on the 3rd.
Far more problematic is the Saturn transit in mid-month that suggests significant difficulty for the president from October 14 through October 23. Not only will Saturn square the president’s Sun (12Leo33), but it will also oppose the Inaugural Ascendant (12Taurus43). These two aspects point to some important losses and concerns for the administration, possibly in the debt ceiling negotiations or in the aftermath of some very dangerous brinksmanship. The good news is that on October 23 there will be a turning point and things will shift in a very positive direction for the president after a very stressful week. Obama’s progressed Moon will move into a square with natal Jupiter (00Aquarius52) from October 21 through November 16 and will be activated by the transiting Sun on October 23.
The middle two weeks of December 2013, however, may well bring renewed hostilities in Congress, with the potential of yet another extortionist assault on our political system. At this time, transiting Saturn will make its first of three oppositions to the Inaugural Moon (19Taurus38), which occupies an extremely hypersensitive degree due to the May 2013 eclipse (19Tarus31). There is the possibility that some crucial administration policies that help the people (the Moon) may be harmed (Saturn) at this time. Certainly, that would be the Republican goal in any negotiation. Moreover, there are numerous Democratic charts with planets at 19 Taurus that are also affected by this transit.
It is also quite possible that the last 10 days of December will bring some kind of particularly wild international tensions or significant attacks in the world. Beginning on December 22, a slow-moving Mars will oppose transiting Uranus through the 25th. This will be followed by transiting Mars square to transiting Pluto from December 28 through December 30, accompanied by the Sun and Mercury, also in hard aspect to both Uranus and Pluto at the same time. In other words, Mars, the Sun and Mercury will all be triggering the latent stress in the Uranus/Pluto square during the period from December 22 through December 31, followed by a Sun/Mars square from December 31 through January 2. This suggests a potentially violent, tense, and transformative series of events that may come during Christmas and the New Year and launch some serious confrontation in the early months of 2014.
