The transit of Jupiter to US Uranus culminates Monday, March 11, thus far leaving minimal imprint. The surging Stock Market and unexpectedly good jobs report are perhaps the strongest indicators of this surprising and optimistic mood. With Mars somewhat debilitated in Pisces until March 12, some of the energy may have been leached out of this aspect.
With the passing of the long and uplifting Jupiter station square President Obama’s Pluto through February 19, we are now seeing his poll numbers decline slightly. They may further erode in April, May, and June 2013, due to transiting Saturn conjunct his natal
Neptune (8Scorpio36), and his progressed Moon square to progressed Saturn (23 Capricorn42) and then natal Saturn (25Capricorn20). These configurations suggest a very challenging and stressful three-month period for the president.
Additionally, Obama is just coming out of the first crossing of Neptune square to his natal Moon (3Gemini21) from February 9 through March 7, which has tarnished him with the aura of unrealistic hope and weakness, mostly from his inability to squash or dampen the sequester.
Also thwarting the president has been the long Saturn station conjunct natal Saturn in the Inaugural chart (10Scorpio48), especially strong from February 18 through March 20. This aspect has strengthened the rigidity of the conservative resistance (Saturn) to the Obama agenda. A parallel Saturn transit in the Congress chart points to difficulties, ill-will, and obstacles within the legislative branch. Transiting Saturn is semisquare to the Congress Moon
(25Virgo30) from February 18 through March 25. It may be that there is greater movement forward on at least some issues of substance after March 25 as these aspects dissipate.
Meanwhile, Mars will reconnect to its feisty, fiery nature once it enters Aries in mid-month and begins a series of aspects that are very likely to stir the pot everywhere. March 21 through 31 is the period to watch, when Mars, the Sun, and Venus cross the area from 8 to 11 Aries and ignite the once-again-building volatility of the Uranus/Pluto square. From March 21 through March 27, Mars will conjunct Uranus (8Aries12) and then square Pluto (11Capricorn30). From the 27th through the 31st, the Sun and Venus will also move to agitate this superpower duo.
Initially, the president will successfully handle the arising circumstances in late March due to transiting Jupiter sextile his Sun (March 29 to April 4) and transiting Jupiter conjunct his solar return Midheaven (13 Gemini) from April 5 to April 11. But building from April 9 through May 7, the Saturn transit to Obama’s Neptune, compounded by his progressed Moon square progressed Saturn, will impact the situation or perhaps spark new difficulties, and the president will find things far more troubling and complicated. Further pointing to presidential anxiety and concern is his progressed Moon sesquiquadrate progressed Pluto (8Virgo42), which stretches from April 18 through May 18.
The US chart also shows some strains from late March through early June. The
activation of the progressed Sun square to natal Uranus (8Gemini55) by Mars (8 Aries), Uranus (8Aries), and Saturn (8Scorpio) at various times from March 20 through April 19, points to the possibility of sudden, unexpected and transformative events that shake up the country in some way.
This turmoil will be followed almost immediately by what will most likely be some kind of foreign policy imbroglio in May. The transit of Saturn square the US Node (6Leo36) from May 6 to May 21 will occur almost simultaneously with the next Uranus/Pluto square from May 4 through May 21. Overlapping these aspects, which point to difficulties with allies or enemies (Saturn/Node square) and extreme agitation and volatility in the world in many places (Uranus/Pluto square), will be the progressed US Moon square to natal Pluto (27Capricorn33) waxing from May 7 to June 7. This latter aspect suggests some significant tension and anxiety among the US population which would seem to connect to the events triggered by the Uranus/Pluto square of May.
The planetary volatility indicated by the Uranus/Pluto square permeating the period from 2011 through 2015, and further defined by the brief and potent short-term aspects that accompany it at various times, is bringing many challenges and much upheaval. As happened in the 1960’s with the Uranus/Pluto conjunction, this turmoil also holds the promise of powerful awakening and significant transformation. But there will be a great deal of drama and turbulence as the process unfolds, so fasten your seatbelts.
Another tweak from Jupiter square US Uranus in its last few days:

Talk about Mercury and Saturn Retrograde (not to mention incredibly stupid Republican assholes)
By Lisa Mascaro
March 10, 2013, 12:41 p.m.
WASHINGTON – Republicans in Congress are renewing their political assault on the nation’s new healthcare law, trying to repeal President Obama’s signature domestic achievement as part of the next battle over the federal budget.
Rep. Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin, last year’s Republican vice presidential nominee, said Sunday his forthcoming budget proposal will include repeal of “Obamacare,” as his party calls it. That position puts tea-party conservatives at odds with others in the GOP who want to find common ground with Obama on the nation’s fiscal woes after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the health law.
In the Senate, conservatives will press for a vote this week to delay funding for the health law as part of a bill that must pass to keep the government running beyond March 27.
“We say we get rid of ‘Obamacare,’ ” Ryan said on “Fox News Sunday.”

New Moon Astraea @16 Capricorn
ASTRAEA: Blocked closure; staying to “the end” (the sometimes bitter end;) believing that “it ain’t over ’til it’s over”—even if it already is; an inability to read beginnings and endings or to “let go” of things, people or events; the witnessing of events. ~ Tree House Mountain
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/10/paul-ryan-obamacare-repeal-gop-budget_n_2847843.html
Paul Ryan on Sunday said that the GOP House budget was tailored to assume that the Affordable Care Act would be repealed.
“We’re going to propose replacing Obamacare with patient-centered health care, with a better health care system for everybody.”
“We don’t want to push more people into a failing program,” he said. “We believe that Obamacare is a program that will not work. We believe Obamacare will actually lead to hospitals and doctors and health care providers turning people away.”
Astraea is a good example of an asteroid that has been used by many, perhaps for some as long as they have been reading the big four.
Astraea is an asteroid that represents the eyes. It represents also what we “see” visually and how we are affected by what it is we see.
Astraea is also an asteroid that indicates an inability to let go or resolve. So if you “see” something with Astraea in mind, it is likely you will not be getting over what it was that you did see.
Those who have Astraea for example conjunct or in aspect to Venus will not get over their relationships. There could also be a tendency to leave a job but later go back to it, even if only for a moment. There is no burning of bridges when Astraea is involved. There is a lack of closure with this energy.
Astraea is about how we dealing with those endings that are left dangling. If Astraea falls in the fifth there may be some unresolved ending with relationships or regarding a child. It may be that it is difficult to finish one’s creative projects. So whatever planet is aspecting Astraea in the chart, will affect the energy of whatever it is that is left hanging.
Mercury could relate to unfinished thoughts or communications. It could also indicate on-going or unresolved issues with siblings. This could also be true if Astraea falls in the third house of a natal chart. Astraea adds the detail that none of the planets could add.

I don’t know about anyone else, but the build-up to the possibly dramatic events Nancy has highlighted are visible in the natural world. For instance, we have had a continuing series of storms with damaging winds. We lost all of our bee hives for the winter was an unhealthy, often verging on spring. The tensions are reflected in my body, and dreams. My intuitive sense indicates that the drama will include some weather or earth-related event. We may not have reached the point of no return, something scientists have been warning about for some time, but we are perilously close.
Nancy, when you talk about Aries 8 to 11 and my descendant is 8 degrees Aries and my Mars is 12 degrees Aries, what would that suggest?
Uranus is coming to an opposition to your Ascendant. Some kind of sudden event or speeding up of events related to your significant other or secondarily to yourself. Possible shift in your personal environment in some way.
Karen – I quite agree that dramatic and destructive natural events could easily be part of the coming aspects from late March through May.
Thanks, Starlight. So, since I don’t have a significant other this should be interesting. Easter with my family….oh lord what now!
Starlight,
You’re a “guiding star”, Thanks for the heads-up! Sounds like we’re in for a wild ride!
Thanks for forecast Nancy! Not to be a doom and gloomer, but I have to wonder, with the recent detection of methane off Santa Monica, whether the sudden event may be geological activity in California? The ring of fire has sure been active in recent years, and CA hasn’t had anything big in a while – are they due? For those who live in CA, I sure hope not, but my feeling is, don’t be complacent. What does the CA chart look like?

SEC Charges Illinois for Misleading Pension Disclosures
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, D.C., March 11, 2013 — The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged the State of Illinois with securities fraud for misleading municipal bond investors about the state’s approach to funding its pension obligations.
http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/86fc4f50-8a78-11e2-9da4-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2NGdmiPGK
The decades-long failure of Illinois’ leaders to make the contributions necessary to fund rising benefits, even as employees paid their share, has crippled its fiscal situation.
Its $96 bn unfunded pension liability is the worst in the US, but its legislature continues to put off meaningful reforms.
In January, Illinois pulled a $500m bond sale after Standard & Poor’s cut its credit rating from A to A- on pension concerns. Repeated downgrades from all three major ratings agencies have left the state with either the worst or among the worst credit ratings in the US.
This marks the second time the SEC has charged a state with securities fraud in their public pension disclosures. In 2010, the agency charged New Jersey with misleading municipal bond investors.
According to the Securities and Exchange Commission. The state agreed to settle with the SEC without admitting guilt, the agency said on Monday
Hi Nancy: Thanks for your interpretation on these upcoming times. I really appreciate your clear sightedness about upcoming events. Like Noelle, I have a Libra ASC mine’s @11, Sun @10 Aries and IC at 11Cap. I’ll be dealing with the volatile energies all year in my solar return chart. So far, I’m still in one piece, but I think the changes are a coming. It’s so interesting to see these energies played out on the broader stage esp. since you encapsulate it so well.
Quake shakes inland region of Southern California
A moderate earthquake shook a wide area of Southern California on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor struck at 9:55 a.m. PT in a remote, mountainous area northeast of San Diego and was estimated to be magnitude 4.7 (earlier reports gave it a magnitude of 5.1). The quake’s center was 16 miles south of Palm Desert, Calif. There were no initial reports of damage or injuries. Several smaller seismic events were also reported around the same time.

Everyone is talking about background checks as the answer to gun violence. That is not as simple as it sounds. Where do you draw the line with mental health issues? The VA is now refusing to comply with NY’s new law. Personally, I think limiting assault rifles and the bigger clips and having a big data base on all gun and ammo purchases, and criminal charges to stop straw purchases (including making the one who bought the gun responsible for any crime committed) would be the most effective.

Nancy, if you get the chance, I wonder what you see for our Australian federal election on 14th September. Our current government is Labor (akin to the Democrats) led by Julia Gillard and the Opposition Liberal Party (akin to the Republicans but not generally so extreme) is led by Tony Abbott. One of the reasons this election is important is that action on climate change is at risk: Labor introduced a carbon tax & the Liberals have vowed to axe it.
Gillard’s DOB is 29th Sep 1961 in Barry, Wales, UK. No confirmed birth time but possibly around noon
Abbott’s DOB is 4th Nov 1957 in London, UK. No confirmed birth time.
Australia’s federation (independence from Britain) was proclaimed on 1st January 1901 in Sydney.

Can anyone comment about the possibility of serious earthquakes in California this month? My son is headed to LA March 15-21 and I’m wondering if I should re-direct his trip. I’m a native Californian who typically blows off the many earthquake predictions we get, but Nancy’s comments about the possibility of significant natural disasters plus the Anza Southern California earthquake (with it’s large number of aftershocks or perhaps pre-shocks) has me nervous. I think I read a prediction for March 13 to end of March somewhere in comments to a previous post. I’m not interested in channeled predictions, but wondering if anyone has done geographic-related astrology. Any good links to read?

The solar eclipse in May 2012 coincides with the beggining of some major planetary alignments aspecting both the 1906 and 1989 earthquake charts. The most important of these is from Uranus square Pluto, with Pluto around 9 Cancer.
California Earthquake Prediction Dates
Looking at the transits to the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, the high risk periods would be:
July 2011, Solar Eclipse opposite Uranus, conjunct Neptune. South Node conjunct Pluto.
March 2012, Pluto square Mercury, Pluto opposite Neptune, Neptune conjunct Moon, Saturn opposite Sun, and South Node conjunct Jupiter.
May 2012, the Solar eclipse passing over northern California, Pluto square Mercury, Pluto opposite Neptune, Jupiter conjunct Mars.
December 2012 to January 2013, Pluto square Mercury, Pluto conjunct Uranus, Pluto opposite Neptune, Neptune conjunct Moon, South Node conjunct Mars, Jupiter Yod conjunct Jupiter.
April 2013, Uranus conjunct Mercury, Uranus square Uranus, Uranus square Neptune.
August 2013, Pluto square Mercury, Pluto opposite Neptune, Jupiter square Mercury, Jupiter opposite Uranus, Jupiter conjunct Neptune.
October – November 2013, Pluto square Mercury, Pluto conjunct Uranus, Pluto opposite Neptune, Uranus conjunct Mercury, Uranus square Uranus, Uranus square Neptune, Saturn opposite Venus.
The two highest risk periods look like August 2013 with the Jupiter Pluto opposition hitting the Cancer-Capricorn axis, and then October November 2013 with the Uranus Pluto square hitting that axis.
Wow, Alex! I really appreciate your quick response, and the link is exactly what I needed. Many thanks!
TJ,
there is a general “quake watch” on for late March, esp. the 27th to the 29th. The first link below gives a good overview with some historical notes, stating that there is a good possibility for a very strong quake, but also that the planetary positions are not as influential as they have been in some past watches.

I’m just curious, or confused. These idiots lost the election. They even lost ground in the one house of Congress they control. Why doesn’t someone just tell them to go to the back of the room, sit down and STFU, and in addition, tell this Ryan crank to go use his so-called budget proposal to wipe his backside?

Jackson, Ha!!!
I don’t think Ryan’s backside would even like his budget. Hard to fathom that this a**hole is even part of our political process – like a hemorrhoid dangling off Ayn Rand’s dead bunghole; and with the Eddie Munster widow’s peek -jeesh, what a ghoul!

No comment, except noted that the Cardinals did start their meeting with Mercury retrograde. It is possible that some of them know astrology, but I would guess that most do not, and suppose that astrology is not officially sanctioned, though perhaps it may be used privately.
But do want to post a note of appreciation. Thank you so much, Nancy, and thank you so much all you commenters. This site is a wonderful “world political climate” report.
Jackson,
I think we’re watching the self-destruction of the Republican Party. I have no other explanation. They’re completely out of touch. The background checks vote in the Senate Committee was strictly a party-line vote, 10-8. All Republicans voted against it, when 90 % of Americans support background checks and Rachel Maddow so helpfully showed what a complete failure the support of the NRA was to candidates in the November election. So there’s no reason on earth for Republicans to be voting this way, and yet they are. Ryan’s back with his budget. We’re in the sequestration, blocking the President’s cabinet appointees just for spite for a while. It’s crazy. Like 3 year olds having a crying, kicking-on-the-floor fit.

Another finding of the study is that the distribution of benefits no longer aligns with the demography of poverty. African-Americans, who make up 22 percent of the poor, receive 14 percent of government benefits, close to their 12 percent population share.
White non-Hispanics, who make up 42 percent of the poor, receive 69 percent of government benefits – again, much closer to their 64 percent population share.

Hi Jan,
You wrote:
“…..guns don’t kill – mean criminals and evil minds who want what you have kill.”
Reminds me of a passage from E. Tolle’s book Silence Speaks but only in reverse……
The Miracle of Love Lies In The Un-interpreted Moment
Much suffering, much unhappiness arises when you take each thought that comes into your head for the truth. Situations don’t make you unhappy. They may cause you physical pain, but they don’t make you unhappy. Your interpretations, the stories you tell yourself make you unhappy. “The thoughts I am thinking right now are making me unhappy”. This realization breaks your unconscious identification with these thoughts.
Speaking of guns and pain, I’m tracking one of the many processes going on (mostly behind the scene and away from the general public) through the event chart for the Sandy Hook Massacre last December 14th. You are probably aware that a Universal Background Check bill recently passed the Senate Judiciary Committee (without a single Republican vote) which reveals this process unfolding. Here are some things I’ve noted on this subject with dates you might find interesting to follow.
Mars in the Sandy Hook chart (SHC) was at 21 Capricorn and the MC was 21 Scorpio creating a sextile. January’s New Moon was at 21 Capricorn (conj SHC’s Mars), February’s NM was at 21 Aquarius (square SHC’s MC), and March’s NM at 21 Pisces is sextile SHC’s Mars and trine SHC’s MC.
Sandy Hook’s Moon at 10 Capricorn was 2 degrees away from Pluto (8 Cap) who was sextile Saturn at 8 Scorpio. The Moon was also quincunx Jupiter at 9 Gemini retrograde.
In April when Pluto stations retrograde, Saturn will reach 8 Scorpio again. (Pluto will reach 8 Capricorn again in September where he stations direct.) Jupiter reaches the degree he was in in the SHC this Monday. As a bonus, this Monday Mars will conjunct the exact degree where Uranus was in the SHC, 4 Aries 37.
On December 14, 2012, Uranus in Aries was trine Mercury in Sagittarius, which is the same degree where Mercury stationed retrograde on November 6th, Election Day, 38 days before the Sandy Hook massacre.
There are many other dates connecting to the event chart’s symbolism, up through 2014, but there is one special one on January 1, 2014. A New Moon at 10 Capricorn will connect with the SHC’s Moon at 10 Capricorn. This New Moon is also conjunct Mercury and Pluto and it squares Mars in Libra. Uranus will have reached 8 Aries and will square the SHC’s Pluto in Cap.
Because the nodes will leave the Scorpio-Taurus axis soon after this, the new season of eclipses will fall in Libra and Aries, with the exception of a New Moon Eclipse at 8 Taurus the following April. This degree opposes the SHC’s Saturn at 8 Scorpio. I believe it will mark a level of completion in the process as it relates to the People (Moon) and their experience of the Sandy Hook tragedy. It seems worth watching to see how it all unfolds.

Hi guys,
Anybody want to talk about the big stellium of planets in Pisces, moving into Aries? How you’re feeling it in your own charts?
Pisces is my 2nd house, and I can’t say I’ve figured out what’s going on there for me. My husband’s 6th, and his life certainly has been all about the daily work stuff lately.
I’m hoping when all that energy moves into Aries, my 3rd house, it will be a great time for my books, because I certainly communicate that way.
And Aries is my daughter’s 8th house. She’s still in Seattle with her soldier boy. No job yet, and she’s feeling the pressure on that. But I’m hoping the stellium will supercharge a death/rebirth for her and life will come together.
I did notice the last full moon or maybe the one coming up is the ending one in the cycle of moons that started just as she had that first car wreck/DUI. So (please, God) I hope that whole disastrous cycle is ending for her. (What is that related moon cycle called? I find that really useful in my own life.)
Hope all is well,
–Teresa

Hi,
I’m a complete amateur at reading charts, but the first things I see are the stellium of planets in the 6th house, so this pope’s job will be one of handling the daily work, maybe reform?
Pluto is in Capricorn the 4th house, again — transformations at home, calling for fairness?
Jupiter is in Cancer the 9th, inconjunct both Pluto in the 4th and Saturn in Scorpio in the 2nd, so this is not a fortunate transformation or a good time moneywise for the church? It stings?
Moon and Uranus are in Aries in the 7th house, square Pluto. So unexpected and troubling feelings about the transformation?
Chiron, Venus, Sun and Mars in the 6th in Pisces. Neptune and Mercury in Pisces, too, but in the 5th house.
AC is 4:20 Libra. Time for a sense of justice? OR justice catching up to the church?
, inconjunct to Saturn in the 2nd — money problems? money not there? and inconjunct to Jupiter
Oops. Ignore the last two lines.
Jupiter is in Gemini currently, Teresa.

Have as much fun as you can, but not at the expense of others. The more you travel thru life without hurting others, putting their needs before yours, the farther you’ve gone. So many in life are born with physical and/or mental disabilities, and their best day that means the most to them may be one that you’d consider your worst. When you’re at peace with yourself and just about everything else, you’ll feel sad for those that try to hurt you, because their feelings, their perspective, their grasp on life, hasn’t quite reached the point in life where you are, now. When you’ve let go of anger, and wish for the best for others, even those that have hurt you, you’re progressing towards an inner peace that even the Dalai Lama would envy. Life doesn’t always guarantee that you’ll end up with the person you should have been with, but it does guarantee that you’ll at least end up with yourself. Always keep a smile with you, it’s usually better than cash.

I guess we’ve added a new customer.’ Customer: ‘No, because i hate this store.’ Me: ‘ That could only be because you haven’t had the pleasure or been exposed to my excellent customer service.’ Customer: Well then, you’re the only one out of 135 other employees in here.’ Me:’ So, what you’re saying is that it was 135 to 1 odds that you’d find someone like me?’ Customer: I guess that’s right.’ Me: ‘Then, congrats.,you beat the odds.’

Perhaps this new pope be a true significant leader,”a mover and a shaker”?
More good news, Pope Francis I has Sun (25 Sagittarius) conjunct the north node (24 Sagittarius) conjunct the Galactic Center/Core (27 Sagittarius), and an Aquarian Moon conjunct Venus.
Transiting Pluto is conjunct his Mercury (11 Capricorn). Four days before he was born there was a solar eclipse (21 Sagittarius) in the same degree as the New Moon on 12/13/12, the day Uranus stationed direct.
Aloha Starlight & All,
barbk: Also noticed with encouragement, the Pope Francis informal ephemeris natal placements as well. His inaugural presentation to the world was one of a man of humility/humor/faith. To offer his followers the opportunity to pray for/with him seemed deeply meaningful, refreshingly inclusive.
It also seems that the institution of the Church itself will be experiencing him in a Saturnian/taskmaster way, as well, for many reasons…particularly, w/the love of truth/integrity. And an Aquarian Moon/Venus individual eventually would have to find inequality between genders unconscionable, eh?
It was reported that in his role as Jesuit pastor in Argentina, he has kissed & washed feet of AIDS patients…and chose to move from palatial digs to a small in-town apartment and chose to walk and take public transportation rather than be chauffeured. If true, this man will prove to be a welcomed example for the entire world…of Christ’s teachings (as compared to toxified human teachings over centuries)…
What a sight it would be, for this Pope to require all his Bishops & priests to wash the feet of sex abuse victims and ask contrite forgiveness on behalf of the Church! That would transform the world!
Warm aloha to one and all!

THE PEACE PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS
Anonymous
Lord make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is dispair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, Joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled
As to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we recieve;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Sometime during the first World War, it was found written on the observe of a holy card of St. Francis, inside a Normal Almanac.
It bore no name, but came to be known as, The Peace Prayer of St. Francis. – I hope, Pope Francis I, will reflect some of the noble teachings of this simple prayer.
O’my! Perhaps all the drama from the Vatican has only just begun!

New Pope Thinks Gay Adoption Is Discrimination Against Children In Letter From 2010
The day has finally arrived! We have a new pope! And unlike the last pope, who was very stodgy and puritanical, this one will proudly lead us all the way into the 15th century.
”Bergoglio is seen an unwaveringly orthodox on matters of sexual morality, staunchly opposing abortion, same-sex marriage, and contraception. In 2010 he asserted that gay adoption is a form of discrimination against children.” wrote John Allen (Business Insider)
http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/03/13/new-pope-thinks-gay-adoption-is-discrimination-against-children-in-letter-from-2010/
That was hilarious, Lorrie! LOL
I meant your former post, not the latter!
Mitzi,
“The Prayer of Saint Francis” – as it has become to have been known, is a beautiful and powerful invocation.
Not to be teachy, but a reminder – we are in full-tilt-boogie Mercury retrograde; and Saturn retrograde as well…….and all of this leading up to “Some Dates to Watch.”
There are murmurs here and gossips there.
Will the Conclave will have to reconsider?
The Jesuits are considered the “Marines” of the Vatican.
Will Pope Franny have to fall on his sword?
Did the conclave just blow some bad smoke? Could there be another rare twist to the whole ordeal?
After reading, all the late breaking news update on the newly appointed Pope Fransis I, it makes me wonder if his reign will be short lived?
With all the Neptunian glamor being thrown around today, the pomp-and-circumstance, I must admit I truly got caught-up, but as the evening drew to a close, I’m inclined to believe it was all nothing more than “smoke and mirrors!” – Yes, I’ve gotten a reality check!
mitzi — I had the same feeling about a possible short papacy (and I’d heard Steve Judd’s vlog yesterday about whoever the cardinals chose, because of the Mercury retrograde it wouldn’t work out the way they thought it would.) Being addicted as I am to escapism via the woo-woo prophecies flying around, I wonder: could Francis be the guy to give away the wealth of the Vatican to the poor?
Wow fierywoman, I love the concept; Pope Francis I, casts a form of Devine Retribution upon the Vatican, for his names sake, St. Fransis, by giving away all the riches held by the Vatican, to the poor, and victimized, for all the crimes that were, and are commited by the Church, particularly, those perpetrared against the children! – What an enormous sacred act that would be, not to mention, the transformative force for healing, and the stabilizing wallop this act would impart upon the psyche of the collective world family!- May it be!
Does anyone else think the new pope looked shell-shocked at his election? I wonder why he asked his followers to pray for him?

What Paul Ryan’s Budget means To Women
EXCERPT
Paul Ryan also promises to repeal the Affordable Care Act. While he doesn’t want to repeal cuts to Medicare spending included in the act, he does promise to repeal the benefits, perhaps the biggest of which is the Medicaid expansion. Women would reap huge benefits from the expansion of Medicaid, given that 13.5 million were expected to get health coverage that way by 2016.
Other provisions that women have been benefitting from in the ACA: the end to gender rating, which was costing women an extra $1 billion a year; access to preventive care without a co-pay, netting a woman around $11,000 now that she doesn’t have to pay a co-pay for contraception, among other things; getting rid of “pre-existing conditions” like pregnancy and domestic violence; and many other great benefits. All out the window if Ryan gets his way.
I have a question: Why is the change of Pope that big a deal. Aren’t the policies the same as ever – no contraception, no abortion, no gay marriage, no women priests, etc. How does it make any difference? I know for Catholics it is an emotional thing to have a new head of their Church which for many is like a big international family. But in reality, for actual policy, etc., does it make any difference? I would be very interested to hear if anyone has an answer.
Nancy, I just logged in to share information on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, but had to respond to your query first.
Like you, I was in disbelief that so much air time was devoted to the remnants of the Holy Roman Empire. Further, I’m puzzled by the kudos for the first South American pope. Mexico, Cuba, and most all of South America was ravaged by catholism through brutality. What wealth went into the coffers of the papacy?
Are we so transfixed by so-called representatives of god’s word that we can so easily forget history?
And how holy is it to “suffer the little children” but make women suffer for them?
There is no difference in the perpetuation of archaic power and belief systems. But perhaps that’s the key. Were there to be a difference — publicly announced and acted upon — then the power now held would be power lost.
Starlight, in response to your question, I have wondered that, too. I think the whole papal theatrical is what we can call a “pseudo event,” a manufactured Big Story meant to distract us from what is really going on. I suspect all of it keeps our eyes off our psychotic political situation and the ongoing plundering by the American oligarchs. With leaders like them, who needs terrorists?!
I also think it is curious that the pope-elect is such a big deal when in fact he is more conservative than the last one! Can we really call that a change? I sometimes think the Catholic church is hell-bent on making itself extinct.
Starlight:
Haven’t you notice that every time there is a new president in any country, it brings with him specific problems, almost like it brings his karma to the office. Well, it’s the same with Popes, some bring some type of problems, others bring relief and so, that’s the case of John Paul II, he had such charisma that it make the church more attractive and it gain followers.
Originally I intended to post this http://www.citizen.org/TPP
The Trans-Pacific Pact has been in negoatiation for a number of years, laying the groundwork for another NAFTA style trade agreement which is surrounded, for the most part, in secrecy.
It seems to me that if there were to be a new political party that would benefit the working person, it would be fashioned on the Wobblys (Workers Worldwide union). Great Britain has a labor party, and we desperately need one. This latest agreement appears to be another corporate giveaway. Workers may further be marginalized without guarantees to organize, to unionize.(Although believe it or not Walmart workers in China ARE unionizing!)
Working conditions for all of us are quickly deteriorating. I hear or read horror stories daily. When unions were strong (despite their faults) ALL workers were the beneficiaries. Is it any wonder that busting unions has been and remains one of the primary goals of the Republican Party and their corporate constituency?
A practicing Catholic and I am one, understands that the activity of thee Holy Spirit is eternal and acts on a timetable that we don’t understand.
Pope John XXlll made a huge change in the church so much that I know conservative Catholics who rebelled and refused communion for some time. This Pope,Francis l, has a reputation for being rock conservative although compassionate and loving and humble and the story goes that he did not want this “cup”. As Catholics we pray for him and ask the Holy Spirit to guide and protect him.
At least in America most women don’t listen to the priests who have no children about birth control, etc but Mass and the rituals are so important and the Church is where our Holy Mother is encountered and recognized.
A new Pope is perhaps an experience of the heart-a renewal of the Spirit for those of us who love our “religion”. it is popular now to hate the church for the ugly and almost unfathomable evil of child abuse at the same time that hatred ignores the powerful good in the world that the church is-medical,education,shelter for the rejected.
Starlight,
Pope John Paul II – there is your answer. Once in a great while, a pope comes along who can and does initiate tremendous change. He essentially liberated all of Eastern Europe by aligning himself with the Solidarity Movement and its leaders. He fought for the poor, the oppressed and the disenfranchised. You’re right – he didn’t do anything for women to become priests, for gays, take a fresh view at contraception or abortion, etc – but who can say he didn’t do something that alleviated the sufferings of several hundreds of millions of people living behind the Iron Curtain?
To a lesser degree, Pope John XXIII and his Ecumenical Council did great things to breathe new life into the faith and its liturgy – and to turn the altar around and give the celebration of the Eucharist back to the congregation, ending years of the stiff, elitist, all-powerful priest-centered Eucharist.
Over the millenia, gay people became nuns and priests; that’s how you dealt with homosexuality. Contraception, birth control and gay lifestyles are almost at a pre-embrionic status with respect to canonical consideration. The condom, the Pill, IUDs and Emma Goldman didn’t come along but within the last half century or so. The Church has never been known to bend to the social issues du jour, unless it involved the impoverished, the uneducated, the mentally-ill or the infirmed. Like it or not, the Catholic Church is still the single-greatest source of charity and charitable organizations on the face of the Earth. The real Church, Pope or no Pope, is about the teachings of Christ and the Eucharist. That’s why the Church is powerful. If we believe in the power of spirit at all, we have to take that into consideration. There is a tremendous concentration of spirit and goodness still connected with the Church. As a practicing Catholic, I’m not throwing out my faith because of the malfeasance and corruption of a gaggle of oppressive politicians in Rome. I will not judge a woman who decides to terminate a pregnancy. I will not turn my back on my gay brothers and sisters. I will not discourage contraception in any form. That’s how you deal with an oppressive Church leadership. I’m not throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Starlight,
I didn’t answer your question entirely. There is a mythic power to the Pope – the Pope is considered to be the replacement of the first Church leader, St. Peter (Peter from the Greek Petros, which means “rock” – Christ said, “Thou are Petros and upon this rock I will build my Church.” Two thousand years of a tradition has away of seeping into the DNA of the soul. So when there is a new Pope, there is an excitement and a rekindling of that moment, when Christ gave his benediction to Peter. Like all great symbolic acts, it has a way of moving people in a deep way, even if it transcends logic.
Karen
As I see it, you are right and wrong at the same time, yes Catholic church comes from the Holy Roman Empire, but it’s not the Holy Roman Empire anymore, every country has its own council and their priests comes from the same country that they preach. There are good priests and bad ones, like in any institution, they teach good moral values like in almost every other religion, they don’t teach people how to reach enlightenment like in almost every other religion, and all of that is because Catholicism is a religion for the masses like Christianity and Protestantism like islamism, ets, they are emotional religions.
Yes there have been some terrible abuses by some priests, but what people don’t understand is that it’s not the institution that it’s bad, it’s us. We are being led by ourselves, and we are imperfect since birth.
There are people that, if you ask them, they give their life for their priest, and that’s in every religion, because they doesn’t care about the global church and its past and whereabouts, for them, their religion has been their priest, and when they have needed help, sometimes priests do help (not all but the majority), because, in the end, they are people like us that have decided to try to please God, and if they don’t help, they’ll be in bad numbers with him.
Also you must realize that Churches have enemies like any other institution, and when they make mistakes, enemies see the opportunity to bring it down, so when you hear some bad comment about something or someone, don’t just hear the sin, but also the intention (why they are telling you).
BTW, I’m Gnostic, and we think that every religion is priceless, every religion has its purpose, because humans on earth have different concience levels and tend to need different approaches, different kinds of wisdom. Our master Samael used to say that “all religions are like pearls strung on the golden thread of divinity”
Nancy, it might have something to do with Vatican City being a city-state and having an elected “monarch”, known as the Bishop of Rome, who is also the Pope of the world’s entire Catholic population. Unlikely it was ever considered a big deal because of policies, not by other governments anyway, but it’s a big deal for the media in the way that a British Queen celebrates her birthday or a British Prince marries; lots of pagentry and excitement to entertain the crowds.
It could make a difference this time though, if the new Pope can stay alive for 10 years. I don’t think this Mercury retrograde matters so much since the retiring Pope gave notice before it started. I think the Mercury rx, as it regards the Catholic Church’s process of appointing a new leader, indicates an inward perspective, along with the new Pope’s natal Mercury being conjunct transiting Pluto in Capricorn, and sextile both trans. Saturn in Scorpio and Chiron in Pisces.
By the end of this month, Pope Francis’ progressed Sun, at about 12 Pisces, will be joined by transiting (direct) Mercury just after it has sextiled the stationing, transiting Pluto while making a conjunction to transiting Chiron. By then he will have spent some private time with the Pope Emeritus, and the Spring Equinox, with its grand water trine, will have triggered his prog. Sun and also his natal Mercury (conj. the Equinox Pluto).
Because Mars is conjunct Uranus in the Equinox chart, and because they square the Moon in Cancer (and Pluto in Cap), my guess is that the new Pope will take on the sex scandels as his first challenges. Miracles can happen!
Thank you for the many thought-provoking answers, especially those from our Catholic posters. You have really helped me to understand.
Squallo: Beautiful “Our master Samael used to say that “all religions are like pearls strung on the golden thread of divinity”
barbk-reading your thoughts I got a flash regarding the rx Mercury which I have seen often when large contracts, etc are signed-the end of a long process of shopping, combining ,etc-this man was the second to Benedict-perhaps he is the REAL Pope for this next cycle. I am not pointing to anything mysterious here just thinking that perhaps he is a better match to the needs of the Church and the world at this time.
Squallo-I love what you said about religions. I have long thought of religions as languages-appropriate to the locale and time and tribe-much as you see it as a Gnostic. Again, this is a point that i don’t share easily say with the local priest although i have shared it and grown with priests but some are frightened of the idea that i might choose someone other than Jesus while for me it is all God,Jesus,Holy Spirit coming to our understanding.
Will-thank you for your learned and beautifully presented understanding and experience-i will be saving your comments in a folder to share with those who are interested in our religion. Well-I will share if that is okay with you.
angellight and clymela:
Glad to be of service.
Clymela,
Sure thing.
Will, nice to read your knowledge and experience as a Catholic — very constructive, instructive and positive. I don’t know who was pope in the ’60s but he is the one who created something of a small revolution in allowing Nuns to shed their habits in order to breathe some fresh air into the Roman Catholic Church (and there probably were other changes as well).
In school we’ve studied evolutionary psychology and the idea that we still have the brain apparatus and social memory leading back to stone age man, thus we are quick to divide and protect, to be fearful, greedy, want power. Yet, there is so much more to us. I have always loved and respected the world’s great religions which partially have been formed in an attempt to mediate our dark side and not just control us. Like us humans, religions are also a mixture of good and bad, light and dark, but there is a strong spirituality to all of them. And, in a sense, they err on the side of caution, the leaders probably thinking that if they allowed too much freedom, mankind would go back to a no-holds barred kind of wildness and lack of ethical behavior? That is what is behind the Conservative thinking, too. I’ve noticed that many of my classmates (there are actually only two Jewish people in the entire program that I’ve noticed and one Asian American?) are very much from religious Louisiana backgrounds. Social work is a pretty liberal profession and many have stories about bucking some of the more “rigid” thinkers in their families. I also see others who are opening their minds (these are young college people in grad school) and trying to reconcile all of this. I really respect the ones who are religious and are doing this–there seems to be an emphasis on mutual respect on everyone’s ideas and beliefs–the entire orientation is towards tolerance and acceptance. As far as the Papacy, I see it as a benchmark against which all flawed humanness is measured. (And, I would think the new Pope was thoroughly vetted–just as if the CIA was doing it–so whatever connection he had to negative behavior must have been disproven?) The more I read in my graduate work, the more I am convinced that we are all just people and every stereotype, negative or positive does a disservice to us all (although when we put people in decision-making positions, we need to be really careful). Will we advance past that stone age mind in our evolution? We who study it, like to think that this what is happening as we approach the Age of Aquarius. Most of it is based on fear of death and suffering, fear of running out of resources, as well as the desire to accumulate more than we need — for security. That’s what the “Stone Age” people fought about and we still are doing it.
http://www.matthewbooks.com/mm/anmviewer.asp?a=161&z=2
Someone mentioned Matthew’s latest message above. I just skimmed through it (up to the part about NESA which I skipped) and it is a wise message, as usual. I especially liked this: “Our beloved Earth family, we are not saying that all souls in your world need to have the very same opinion about everything before turmoil ends. What we are saying is that a willingness to listen and comprehend each other’s convictions must precede resolutions to conflicts. And this will come!”
Hi,
I’m not a Catholic although we raised our children in the Catholic church. (Husband raised Catholic.)
I would love to see the new pope devote himself and instruct the church to devote itself to serving the poor. We’ve had candidates for president here condemned by American Catholic leaders for their position on abortion, while those same church leaders completely ignore the Republicans record on aid to the poor, the hungry, the homeless.
It infuriates me, and I’m speaking sincerely, not as a Democrat, but as a human being when I say I long for churches of all faiths to devote themselves to the work of helping others and making their communities a better place. I bet if you look at the budgets of most churches in America, there’s very little actually devoted to helping the poor, the homeless, the hungry. They build huge buildings. The run programs to draw people to their churches, so they can get bigger and bring in more money. A friend of mine asked one time about what was going on with churches, not comforting the afflicted, and I said the modern church is about comforting the comfortable, and I truly believe that.
I believe firmly and absolutely in God. I’m terribly cynical about most all churches and religions.
Could be very, very happy about a pope who proclaimed we should all do more to help others. That it is Godly.
Aloha Starlight & All,
You ask: Given the orthodoxy against married priests, women priests, contraception, abortion+…what difference does the new Pope make?
Coming from a family history with deep Roman Catholic bases, i’ve learned to see in terms of centuries-long change. Think Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler, Inquisition apology+. As others have mentioned, John XXIII’s 2nd Vatican Council(’62-’65)was a breath of needed air/currency for the visible/functionary aspects of the Church. One of my relatives, a Franciscan nun from age 13, was so very relieved of her daily headaches when the habit was changed & whose last words upon death were: Mamma and Christos. Another of my relatives, was an ordained priest who left in 1940s, married, had a family of 5 children, divorced, remarried and died from alcohol abuse…so, we see how varied the stories of Roman Catholic practitioners can be!
This current Pope’s Jesuit training/obedience/vow of poverty offers the world a hopeful note as does the fact he has taught literature+ & has no obvious fear of science. Taking the name of Francis (St. Francis of Assisi & his order’s founder) holds great hope for a potential call for care of the planet/God’s natural creatures; pro-peace. Basically, his ability to influence behavior of 1B+ humans is a source of hope in such regards. Rather than punish women for their God-given womb/mind/free will, one would hope this Pope would focus ‘upstream’ and begin to retrain/call to account the addicted/violent husbands, boyfriends+ who violate, beat, abuse, impregnate, misuse, incest their female companions/wives/daughters+ He has a potential to do so based on aspects of his historic behavior. And, practically speaking if women, as were first female disciples, are not given rightful place in RCC, they will move to Evangelical/non-denominational expressions instead, if they feel the call! Just look at the wildly popular Joyce Meyers…she is derided by her male counterparts, but offers a tremendous ray of hope for women all over the planet in her position in the Evangelical world.
Also, the fact that the RCC now allows married priests from protestant groups (Anglican/Eastern Orthodox/Episcopal sects) to perform certain RCC latern rites, is already a huge change in the priests-can’t-marry tradition that began as a mandatory rule in 1139. In addition, the traditions/magisterium docs against women priests is not yet “ex cathedra”, which means it is not an “infallable-from-God” rule and is based on mutable fear/choice by men that devolves into the weak argument/reason that the “church does not have authority” to ordain women as priests. There is room for more sweeping change that is already happening.
Gay rights, abortion, contraception…don’t expect anything to change there. But always, one can hope secular education and secular nation-states can offer alternatives. Next, RCC will have to handle the ethics of ‘robotics’-are these alive?; en vitro pregnancies; Dick C’s mechanical heart; use of science/tech/medicine ‘interfering’ w/God-given/natural human cycles, lifespans, etc. These are important issues. All of human society needs to be looking for Codes of Ethics, imv.
On the most mundane levels, perhaps Swiss Bishop Markus Buchel said it best about ordination of women: We can’t afford this anymore. (losing priests, schools, congregations, funds, integrity, etc). We can pray that the Holy Spirit enables us to read the signs of the times.”
And, i agree that all of us, not just the RCC, remain entangled in the forms of civilization created by the Holy Roman Empire, even we exploring astrology…Remnants of HRE mythologies: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto remain part of astrological language/symbolism/meaning…and the western world’s calendar remaining still off-kilter thanks to the insertions of god-wanna-be Augustus & Julius Cesaer attempting to control time itself in their own memory! The indigenous Indian “month of meeting around the warm fire moon” makes so much more sense!
Somehow it all works…my main concern, from personal past experience having begun a big project on a Merc. Rx cycle…Pope Francis essentially was ‘born’ on a Mercury Rx cycle, imv..i would expect him to handle a huge amount of frustrating re-do’s; tech break-downs; mis-communications; exercises in mature patience/forgiveness…but in that mix, the potential for ‘cleaning the filth’ from the house of the Roman Curia eventually can happen. Expecting he will be looking mostly backwards, not moving fiercely forward in his time as Pope. Mostly potentially bringing to the world a modelling of humility, integrity, peace & hope. Time will tell!
Warm aloha blessings all!

First Beam Chart Haydron (Hadron) Collider
9/10/2008
10:28 Geneva
The CERN Hadron Collider based outside Geneva in Switzerland was first activated on the 10th September 2008 at exactly 10.28 – nice for us astrologers that the scientists recorded the time of first use.
The chart is quite unusual because it is based around one set of trine aspects, one set of square aspects, one opposition, one wedge and 2 unaspected planets.
The Sun sits in the 11th house conjunct to Saturn. This is Aquarius’ house, the sign most associated in the zodiac with science. The conjunction in the 11th show this is a team effort which is very serious in nature. Saturn and the Sun are in Virgo, an earth sign and this is a scientific study into the tiniest particles imaginable, the very building blocks that make up our universe.
Virgo is associated with all things minute and detailed. This conjunction is opposite Uranus in Pisces in the 5th house. Immediately we realise that this is a significant placing for Uranus, as we have this very scientific opposition affected by the mysteries of Neptune. Not only that, but the opposition to the Sun and Saturn give the impression of pushing back boundaries and setting new standards.
Very aptly, Uranus in the 5th house is in the house of creation. The opposition is turned into a wedge pattern with the Moon at the focal point. The Moon in Mundane astrology represents on the most basic level the people. We have a mystical yet surprising creation from the tiniest particles, that through the sextile and trine to the Moon will potentially affect the whole of mankind.
The Moon sits in Capricorn (Saturn’s sign) so this discovery will have form and structure, a solid basis to the claims made. Saturn in Greek mythology was represented by the God Chronos who represented the passage of time. The translation of the modern Greek word “Chronos” into English is also “time”. Saturn traditionally in Astrology rules time, and the 3rd house in which Capricorn in intercepted rules travel in your local environment.

Hi,
Want to add, I felt a sense of joy from Pope Francis when he gave his first address. Not joy at his selection, but a sense of joy inside of him, that he is a happy person and it comes through in everything he does. The he’s likely a person who finds joy in his work, and that seems like a lovely thing he may bring to the job. Th idea of let us be joyful and go about our work. An inviting religion. A happy one. Which I know goes against what we’re thinking, that maybe he will take on serious reforms in the church.
Don’t know. Just wondered if anyone else picked up on that.
Teresa – I’m not sure what I felt was a sense of joy from Pope Francis, but I definitely felt his quiet compassion and sense of connection to the people. As a catholic friend of mine said today, he was the best choice that is possible in this time. I think it’s an important and powerful message that he is an advocate for the poor at a time when our political divide in this country and globally is about the attempt to take even more from the poor and give to the rich. He is very aware of globalization and inequality, as well as the fact that evangelism has been overtaking catholicism in the South American countries, so it appears to be a wise choice for our current times.

It’s interesting that not only did we get a new Pope during this Mercury in retrograde, but also that China picked Xi Jinping as leader: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xi_Jinping
http://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/Xi_Jinping
Did anyone mention above when Mercury goes out of retrograde officially (not counting the shadow). We are getting ready to sign a contract with a roofing company. I was told that if negotiations started before Mercury went retrograde, the problems that are usually expected when signing during a Mercury Rx wouldn’t apply to the date of inception. I don’t know about the pope or the negotiations for the leader of China, but I “think” we started negotiations long before the retrograde (since we were getting various estimates). Nevertheless, I’d rather wait until Mercury is out of retrograde. I read that this occurs on the 17th. Nancy, anyone else, do you concur?
Will, thank you for your answer to Nancy’s question. Who knew?
I was raised a Catholic. I don’t go to church but work for a Catholic Church (parish). Yes, a ping pong ball in a coal bin.
What pleases me so about the election of Pope Francis is that he is a Jesuit and they stand for social justice. This new Pope is also deeply committed to helping the poor and downtrodden and we have a President who is committed to improving the lives of the middle class. This tells me that something good is happening.
I would have liked a more liberal thinking Pope but you know from what I’ve seen I think we are blessed to have this one. How can you not like a man who selects the name Francis for Francis of Asissi?

Here are some charts and comments…
Jorge Mario Bergoglio
December 17, 1936
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Jorge Bergoglio was fated to be a leader. His SUN is conjunct the North Node (meaning he was born a few days after a SOLAR ECLIPSE) and in the solar noon chart – the chart that shows your full potential – The SUn and North Node are conjunct the Midheaven. His leadership comes as naturally as the sun shines.
He has genuine care and concern for PEOPLE, as his Moon is conjunct Venus in Aquarius. Humanitarian outreach is his contribution. His Mercury, although serious in Capricorn, is out-of-bounds by declination, and that combined with his Moon-Venus conjunction in Aquarius could tend to make him an avid communicator with a strong message of LOVE. Again, he is serious and reserved. Saturn sits on his Ascendant, praying in Pisces. It is also opposing Neptune in Virgo, so his prayers and the Church’s prayers and the Church’s prayers are his prayers.

Noelle,
This first Jesuit Pope is already rustling feathers as he chose his papal name as that of the founder of a different order than his own; the Italian priest, Francis of Assisi founded the Franciscan order, whereas the Spaniard, Ignatius of Loyola was the founder of the Society of Jesus…a.k.a. “Jesuits.”.
But don’t be fooled, I’m a filthy pig and an a sinner of extraordinary proportion….so I’m perfect for Catholicism. My faith is the mooring for my wretched soul.

Democratic Rep. Grijalva: Progressive budget fixes deficit ‘without the hysteria’
http://cpc.grijalva.house.gov/uploads/Back%20to%20Work%20Budget%20-%20Executive%20Summary.pdf
7 million new jobs in one year
$4.4 trillion in deficit reduction
We’re in a jobs crisis that isn’t going away. Millions of hard-working American families are falling behind, and the richest 1 percent is taking home a bigger chunk of our nation’s gains every year.
Americans face a choice: we can either cut Medicare benefits to pay for more tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, or we can close these tax loopholes to invest in jobs.
We choose investment. The Back to Work Budget invests in America’s future because the best way to reduce our long-term deficit is to put America back to work.
In the first year alone, we create nearly 7 million American jobs and increase GDP by 5.7%. We reduce unemployment to near 5% in three years with a jobs plan that includes repairing our nation’s roads and bridges, and putting the teachers, cops and firefighters who have borne the brunt of our economic downturn back to work.
We reduce the deficit by $4.4 trillion by closing tax loopholes and asking the wealthy to pay a fair share. We repeal the arbitrary sequester and the Budget Control Act that are damaging the economy, and strengthen Medicare and Medicaid, which provide high quality, low-cost medical coverage to millions of Americans when they need it most. This is what the country voted for in November. It’s time we side with America’s middle class and invest in their future.
Progressive Arizona Rep. Raúl Grijalva, along with Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and other members of the Progressive coalition introduced their 2013 “Back to Work Budget” on Wednesday.

Delighted to see your making a mental note of these things. Speculative thinking is of course rather risky business.
Death to our limited selves (the mind and all its machinations) can be an opportunity in disguise. In crisis, we have no choice but to rely on the heart and go within. So that my friend may be a good thing.
The March 22nd Uranus-Mars conjunction – 27th Full Moon-Mars-Pluto-Uranus t square as Nancy alluded to is still looming ahead.
Re: North Korea….. The Neptune Cafe website just did a fascinating analysis on the young North Korean leader’s chart. For details, click here:
http://www.neptunecafe.com/northkorea.html
If this chart proves to be accurate; on the 27th, there will be a precise tr. Jupiter-Chiron square (11 Gemini-Pisces) in t square to Kim Jong Un’s natal Uranus (11 Sag) with tr. Mars (11 Aries) forming a sextile-trine to those degrees. Could be an indication of major aggressive behavior.
Newly elected South Korean President Park Geun-hye(see natal chart: http://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/Park_Geun-hye ), who will be on the receiving end of any potential NK aggression has a natal Jupiter (10 Aries) Uranus (10 Cancer) Saturn (14 Libra) Chiron (8 Capr.) grand cross square. The March 27th Full Moon will be activating these degrees.
One interesting aside about Psychic Focus, the lady who mentioned the March 13th date on a number of occasions. . . her take on Christopher Dorner is quite fascinating……

will,
I understand there was a co-funder of the Jesuit order; St. Francis Xavier. If so, might the new pope have also had him in mind when he chose that name? Could it be be a subtle attempt to heal a lesser divide in the Church?
Now, that’s the Will we’ve come to love and expect.
Barbk, if he was selecting his name for St. Francis Xavier, I heard PR priest for the Vatican say he would have used the whole name, i.e., Pope Franis Xavier.
I’m so impressed with Mr. Scott Prouty, (the man behind the 47% controversy), has anyone out there been able to look at his chart? I feel we haven’t heard the last word from Mr. Prouty, although he comes across as a humble, “every man”. I see something more to him, as though for a long time he’s been carrying around a heavy burden, a sort of overloaded “karma”, that compels him now, to embark on an important mission, as a “Speaker of Truth.”
Barbk,
I believe Pope Francis made it very clear that his papal namesake was to honor St. Francis of Assisi – the founder of the Franciscans, known for his humility, simplicity and allegiance with the impoverished.
St. Francis Xavier, a Jesuit, was considered one of Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s closest friends and fellow Jesuits. I went into Jesuit training several times in my life and do no recall reference to St. Francis Xavier as a co-founder. But there could be new information somewhere to support that claim.
But it is Francis of Assisi who Pope Francis has honored with his papal name’s sake.
Will,
Training to become a Jesuit? Several times? You get more interesting by the minute.
mitzi, I second your comment on Mr. Scott Prouty. I was so impressed with the character, sense, and courage he revealed in his interview on The Ed Show. It is good to know we still have some US citizens like Prouty.

Noelle,
You have no idea. Bless you.
Dear Nancy, Re your question: “Why is the change of Pope that big a deal. Aren’t the policies the same as ever – no contraception, no abortion, no gay marriage, no women priests, etc. How does it make any difference?”
Wonderful question coming from an ‘Aquarian’.
The ‘Pisces Age’ has run it’s course. I’m a ‘Disenchanted Catholic’, as is my husband. Policies you mention are mostly ignored by Catholics of today.
Have you seen the Documentary on Mother Teresa? It showed to me how the Catholic Church/Mother Teresa have been so focused on the trees…they can’t see the forest. During “The Age of Pisces”, many started “on the path” back to the creator”. But few were able to get to it because they were heavily tied to the ‘senses’. This searching will come to fruition in the Age of Aquarius and the greater meaning of things will be known”.
To me…this transition feels like the same stress from our stuck-in-the-mud-old-ways Right Wing…why can’t they see the big picture?

Poor, poor Christopher Hitchens. He was a deeply jealous and envious man who thrived on his own fame and narcissism. When he realized his hunger for glamour and notoriety was insatiable, he stooped to some of the cheapest, most cynical of publicity stunts in the book – a hot controversy with an outrageously inflammatory claim that would assure him tons of recognition and media juice. So he takes on a nun who devoted her life to work with the poor. His shots were so cheap he made Anne Coulter look well-bred and noble.
Mother Teresa was a human being, certainly flawed like the rest of us. But for Hitchens to make the deeply cynical and frankly, diabolical claims against her is the real tragedy here. A vain man with an enormous intellect and a deeply envious and malicious spirit.
So she wasn’t fond of abortion or birth control – and she didn’t have a state-of-the-art hospice with all of the pain killers and facilities of a western hospital – so why didn’t Hitchens et al make a massive donation right to the clinic? Why didn’t he do something to help the cause with his writing and speaking ability?
And by-the-way, Old Boy, nice job and the flattering “lighting” and make-up for your close-ups. But your dead now – and your not being canonized, that I can assure you.
Teresa – probably will be – and with very good cause. She did enormous good in this world – and she was hardly in it for the money and the fame for herself.
Poor, petty, haughty, nasty, vicious, jealous Christopher Hitchens. If he was that envious of Mother Teresa, can you imagine his contempt for Christ? And to think, that little Hebrew carpenter never wrote a f——g thing! Nertz!

“Women are naturally unfit for political office. From an astrological point of view President Obama’s arrival in Israel on the 20th appears especially significant.
President Obama is scheduled to arrive at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv at 12 pm Wednesday, March 20th. This places his arrival within a 2 minute orb of the 0 Aries Spring Equinox – the world point degree. Equally important; both Israel’s progressed Mars at 0 Libra and the US natal MC (1 Libra) are located at the nadir (homeland) of this Spr. Equinox chart providing extra poignancy to the future of these two nations. Here’s the chart for quick reference: http://oi50.tinypic.com/m8lpgp.jpg
Moon in cancer in the 12th house (7 Cancer) the area most noted for endings in square to Mars/Uranus (6/7 Aries) – the potential for unexpected violence right at the midheaven (3 Aries) – MC traditionally indicating career, status, aim in life, aspirations, public reputation, and life goals. Whether this forebodes failure in American mid east diplomacy or an event more specifically related to President Obama’s safety in his designated first time visit to Israel – can’t say.
Moggy’s World of Astrology looks at the Spring Aries Equinox chart from the US perspective with the location set in Wash. DC (chart enclosed)……..
SPRING EQUINOX 2013 – USA
DATA: March 20, 2013 @ 7:03 A.M. EDT – Washington, D.C.
The Vernal Equinox is the exact moment of the ingress of the Sun into Aries…the commencement of the astrological year. A map of the Heavens is drawn for the moment of ingress at the seat of government of a nation. The figure for the Vernal Equinox always bears chief rule for the ensuing year and while the succeeding ingresses into the other cardinal points have also a pre-signification, they are subsidiary to the first-named.
The following interpretation is for the chart cast for Washington, D.C., depicting situations to be faced by the population of the USA.
A First house Aries Sun suggests birth, new beginnings, involuntary action taken by citizens in the hopes of bringing changes, with the possibility of rashness.
The most outstanding activity is that eight planetary bodies are on the East side of the chart, four of them in the First house, indicating that the public will be taking the initiative for this astrological year…and it won’t be pretty…with Mars conjoined Uranus in Aries square a 10th house Pluto…the people versus a coercive, degenerate government.
A Fourth house Moon in Cancer is opposed by Pluto and aligned with Mars/Uranus, forming a Cardinal T-Square, the empty leg where the action will manifest being the 7th house of open enemies. The Moon and the First house rule the people and when Pluto/gov’t (federal and state) pushes the people against the proverbial wall, the people are going to come out swinging.
The house that Uranus is transiting (1st) represents an area where we are starting to face a certain kind of oppression. Uranus is a key trigger to war; it symbolizes fanatics, terrorists and revolutionaries. The weapons of choice of Uranus are a gun and the other will not be mentioned to protect innocent patriots. Two of the weapons of Mars are knives and arrows…think crossbow.

“The middle class is what drives our economy. We can’t prosper as a nation unless today’s jobs and tomorrow’s jobs provide fair, decent wages.”
Fact: There are dozens of extremely wealthy, powerful and equally tyrannical female evangelists with millions and millions who follow their television ministries.
Fact: The incidence of predatory sexual abuse by the Roman Catholic Clergy is at a virtual statistical dead-heat with the occurrence of sexual abuse in the general population. All it takes is a few proverbial bad apples to sour the lot.
Celibacy seems to work with the Buddhists just fine. Its not celibacy that makes a priest a sexual predator or abuser. Its the same perverse drive that makes a layperson a monster. The added piece of course is the power differential and the sucker-punch of the abuse coming from someone we hope to trust perhaps more than anyone. But we have that kind of abuse happening on all levels of society.
There was a clear abuse of power in Clinton’s sexual escapade with Monica Lewinsky and the other “women helpers” he used to pleasure himself. And he was clearly not celibate – a married man and one who had long-term liaisons “on-the-side.”
Its not the celibacy. Its about getting the few predators out of the ministries.

re: Women & Roman Catholic Church/Bible/Reality
As it turns out, as the content of the following link confirms, the most loyal/courageous followers of Christ were women. Women were prominent at some of the most important moments of Christ. As well, the unseen influences/worker-bees of the Vatican have been/remain largely lay-women. Mother Mary remains a most important remnant of these facts to the curia. It is the mere fear of misogynist men that keeps officialized appearances perpetuating the silly male/female visible imbalanced power structure intact. Given that some Episcopal churches, Evangelical churches, Lutheran churches+ are now already led by women priests, it is to the peril of the Church itself that the error of misogyny is allowed to continue, imv. Sadly, the Vatican has placed itself in the company of fundamentalist men of Egypt, Iran, Russia & Southern Evangelicals who are revolted by current UN Women’s Rights Declaration demanding inalienable civil/moral rights for women.

The main reason only men are priests or popes in the Catholic tradition is because Christ’s apostles were, according to all of the synoptic and Greek gospels, men. Christ chose Peter – a broken and very flawed and often cowardly and weak-in-faith man to be his successor and lead his flock.
Nuns and Sisters of hundreds of different orders have always been great power-brokers in the church, working in a far more humble and Christ-like way than their male counterparts.
There are also hundreds and hundreds of canonized women saints and beatified women in the Catholic tradition.
There are also thousands of lay-ministers in the Catholic Church today – and I would wager at least half, if not more than half, are women. They offer the sacrament of the Eucharist, just like any priest.
And yes, the Blessed Mother is the symbolic Mother-God of the Church. The Rosary – a prayer exercise requiring the recitation of 50 “Hail Marys” is recited by millions of Catholics every day. The Church is referred to as Holy Mother Church.
The nuns have always done the real heavy lifting in the Church. They are much more practiced at humility and charity and better at creating community than their male counterparts. But it would appear they are not possessed by a maniacal desire to invade the priesthood; they are happy to be nuns, to be celibate and to serve with great dignity, faith, hope and charity.
I do not believe it is misogyny that necessarily prevents women from become PRIESTS in the Catholic tradition. It much more a function of Christ and his 12 male apostles.
A woman can become quite powerful as a Mother Superior and head up a whole order of nuns. Hence, “Mother Teresa.”
Things get twisted when we take a kind of corporate, competitive consciousness and try to impose it on a tradition of scripture and faith that is over two thousands years in the formation.

The GOP’s Real Agenda
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-gops-real-agenda-20130313#ixzz2NjEN9TQP
Since last fall, Republicans have pretended to be more moderate but their politics are harsher and more destructive than ever. The Republican Party is like a wounded beast rarely has it been more dangerous.
After watching voters punish the GOP in the 2012 elections, Republican elites have been talking a brave game about reforms that would make the party less repulsive to Latinos, women and gay-friendly millennials.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, the GOP’s hip-hop-quoting young standard-bearer, is pressing conservatives to back an amnesty for undocumented immigrants. Dozens of party stalwarts, headlined by former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, renounced their opposition to gay marriage in a Supreme Court brief. GOP bigwigs have even launched New Republican a group modeled after Bill Clinton’s centrist Democratic Leadership Council which seeks to rebrand the party as “colorblind,” “not anti-government” and dedicated to “ending corporate welfare.”
Don’t be fooled. On the ground, a very different reality is unfolding: In the Republican-led Congress, GOP-dominated statehouses and even before the nation’s highest court, the reactionary impulses of the Republican Party appear unbowed. Across the nation, the GOP’s severely conservative agenda – which seeks to impose job-killing austerity, to roll back voting and reproductive rights, to deprive the working poor of health care, and to destroy agencies that protect the environment from industry and consumers from predatory banks – is moving forward under full steam.
As a result of the GOP’s refusal to negotiate in good faith, America is now being subjected to austerity-by-a-thousand-cuts. Budgetary sadists like Paul Ryan will delight in the sequester’s blows to vital anti-poverty programs: $285 million a year from heating assistance to keep the poor from freezing to death in their own homes. Another $543 million will be cut from nutrition assistance throwing as many as 750,000 at-risk kids and moms out of the WIC program. California and Texas alone likely will be forced to lay off more than 2,000 teachers leaving some 350,000 students in the lurch. Tens of thousands of preschoolers will be kicked out of Head Start.
A budget bill passed in December by the House would have protected defense contractors by restoring all Pentagon spending and delivered the $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction on the broken backs and empty stomachs of low-income Americans – hollowing out social programs, decimating food-stamp benefits, even abolishing Meals on Wheels for hundreds of thousands of hungry seniors. Speaker Boehner praised his caucus for endorsing these “common-sense cuts.
But for anti-government Republicans, simple belt -tightening isn’t enough. Since 2009, the party has fetishized the kind of draconian cuts to social services that have been practiced in Europe in recent years – and that have failed spectacularly to revive economies there. And today, with the imposition of the sequester $1.2 trillion in across-the-board budget cuts divided between domestic and military expenditures the Republicans have finally succeeded in bringing shock-and-awe austerity to America.
Alex – You have expressed the religous debacle quite well. Some latter-day biblical finds indicate that women were very important in the original church, and that Mary Magdalene was an apostle (See Gospel of Mary Magdalene).
We are souls made up of male & female energies. Our light bodies are androgynous. When we advance in consciousness, that is how we view all souls. Patriarchal religion perpetuates the divide of the sexes, which is why I’ve become anti-religion. My metaphysical church would start our prayers with “Father, Mother, Christ–Triune God” which aligns with the Kabbalah belief that it is the union of father-mother (male/female) which births the Christ (holy spirit).
Houston PD Tickets A Homeless Vet For ‘Molesting’ A Garbage Can For Food (VIDEO)
You CANNOT “molest a garbage can” in Houston, Texas.
“That’s right. Scavenge through a big bin and you’re going down, brother. Well, you’re at least going to get a ticket. And last Thursday night that’s exactly what happened to James Kelly. The hungry, homeless Navy vet was ticketed by Houston PD for wanton disregard of the garbage molesting law after he was found rummaging through a trash bin in search of food, rumored to be a donut. Dear God, mother, dial 911 and hide the kids in the bathroom!”

There is nothing at all stopping women from creating their own religious traditions or faiths if they want to. Why should they bother butting their heads up against traditions that they don’t like that just happen to have been established by men?
I say, get thee out of the Church and stop whining and complaining. Go and have as many abortions and use as many IUDs as you’d like. Be the priestesses or priests you want to be. Dress up, dress down, start up your own faiths and stop blaming men for your spiritual oppression. I’m sure there will be plenty of men who will follow you. Sadly, many of these angry women who resent not being able to be priests seem more invested in their rage and hate than they are in creating their own faiths and followings. Get to it. Make haste. Carpa your own Deus.
If I’m not mistaken, there was once a panoply of female gods. Read Grecian, Roman and Egyptian history. Resurrect them or make new ones.
Dear Will, I so enjoyed the Fellini Fashion Show.
Steeped in the Catholic Church, having spent 12 years of Catholic schooling and a High School graduate of ‘Stella Niagara Franciscan Sister’s of Assisi Convent and Motherhouse’, where the Nun’s kindness taught me the greatest values of simplicity and love. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLT94umIF_I
Will, I apologize if I offended you posting the Mother Teresa link. As I said, I’m merely ‘disenchanted’…yet, hoping one day to again become ‘enchanted’.
Patty, you didn’t offend me. Christopher Hitchens made the video. Lots of people fell under his the spell of his charism of persuasion. All I ever saw was a raging, fast-talking com megalomanac. I found him loathsome. I just needed to vent.

Pope Francis is becoming more and more interesting …
“The first points he scored are for being vehemently opposed to globalization, neoliberalism, the IMF, the World Bank as instruments of misery, destruction and death and now these words from a mass he said for Society’s Victims in 2011.”

When looking at the chart for Pope Francis, what stood out to me was that his Pluto (transformation) is in Cancer (the family/church) in the 5th hs. (children). Perhaps he will transform the abuse of children through the church.

Fierywoman,
Stunning and deeply moving. Grazi mille.
The Catholic Church – along with most religion – is all about power. It keeps power by keeping people poor & downtrodden whilst offering phony spiritual solace – and denying women the right to self-determination by denying them the right to control their fertility is THE way to keep them poor & downtrodden – nothing to do with apostles or any similar notions. And yes, that is just my opinion
I now, following reading Ardy’s offering, regret that we are discussing the Pope and the Church. I am not an evangelizer and I hear all the atheists, etc as evangelizers for their understanding.I love the church with the traditions and the beauty and I know that it is only there that our minds are opened up to the needs of our community and to others around the world. Right now it seems to me that the dark corners of the Church are getting cleaned out and many are grabbing the filth and holding that up as proof of what the Church is when actually the good still is so much broader and deeper that the good is taken for granted. I don’t argue with atheists like wise I do not fix on what is wrong in the Church although i do recognize that there is some movement towards bringing the faith and the Church more in alignment with our knowledge of reality.
And…Will your screed on women is over the top and focuses more on your antipathy toward women than any real understanding. I say to you and all the screeching types-what was our Mother and Mary Magdalene if not apostles? Myself I would rather take care in the ways you describe still the Church needs more humans to fulfill the mission on earth.
c
fierywoman-thank you so much for your link and your words-well done -you covered in few words and a link what I was trying to say in many words. Thank you so much and now I plan to back out of this discussion
Clymela,
I am sorry if you thought my “screed” about women and the Church was over the top – and I believe you may have missed the point I was trying to make. I have been commenting about the very significant role women make in the Church – hardly what one would consider “antipathy.”
And there are more female Eucharistic ministers in the Church than there are men – and thousands more Eucharistic women ministers than priests.
The Church is really all about how you internalize the teachings of Christ – its about your own inner-cathedral. When you internalize the love, compassion and peace of Christ – you’re there.
New post up.

Will-I had written out a sincere apology for coming down so hard on you because i was upset with your saying that women should go and form their own religion. i believe that in shouting out my own disagreement with your opinion that I absolutely ignored your deeper acknowledgement. I want to apologize and I hope that others who may come later will see my apology which you do in my sight deserve.
Anyway I had to advise you that my first attempt to apologize was interfered with. Don’t you find that very interesting? Tickled my Catholic consciousness.
Clymela,
Its probably all being influenced by the instability of Mercury going direct today, huh?
No worries.
